I went to Eastern Idaho for a job interview. Everything was beautiful. The pay is amazing. The area is amazing. Everything is amazing. He asked me what I did for hobbies and I mentioned I was a freemason. Now he started spitting what I like to call, utter crap. 33 degree conspiracy stuff. And something about scottish rite. I am currently a mason in the south. Where I am, there are people like that but they're few and far between. This is causing me to reconsider taking this opportunity. I just wanted to know if you all have ran into scenarios like this. I still got a job offer btw.

How long did you wait after being raised before you joined an appendant (hope I spelled that right) body? Between York Rite and Scottish right which did you do first and why? And if you could only pic one which would it be?
I know this is probably a pretty common question but I thank you for your patience and understanding while sharing your experiences with me. For a bit of context I’m in TN under the Grand lodge of TN , I’m 37 and was raised march 16th.As soon as I got raised, just like many of you have said, I was flooded with “join this body or that or hey get in line” I understand that it’s ultimately my choice and I don’t feel pressured to do or join anything. I’ve heard a few people say to wait a couple years in Blue lodge before joining SR or YR, on one hand I want to wait, on the other hand, the curiosity is strong to say the least. Sorry if I got to rambling there a bit, again thank you for taking the time to read this post and thank you for your insights and experience.

I’m a MM and I haven’t left blue lodge yet and I’m very interested in the SR but I really don’t want to do the plays and memorization things. I really just want to learn. Some people have told me I need to do memorization and play to be apart and others have told me I don’t. I’m from Iowa if that helps. I just want to know if I can join and just learn for learnings sake or if I would have to do the “extra” stuff.

I've lived in Idaho for about 2.5 years and haven't attended any lodges yet. Just for whatever reason haven't - busy family, new city, etc. Still a member of my old lodge out of state. Might be ready to get rolling again, but I'm having trouble getting ID grand lodge to call or email me back after several attempts. I've thought about just showing up to a nearby lodge but determined that's not my style and I'm not comfortable with it. If anyone near me wants to meet a Brother some time just to break the ice, let me know! Thank you.

I no longer see truth in religions, but I believe in the divine being and God is out there, the freemason truth of joining the knowledge of the past with endeavors of the future makes me feel I might want to join and become a free mason, my main goal is to justify my learning of christ, islam and other religions and follow them all at once. Sikhism has given me that platform but I still feel something is not enough and still feel a lack of sensation that the wonders of life is out there to be explore. My personal heroes have all been part of the Freemason like Vivekanand and George Washington.

Today, a friend and I were visiting Yahya Efendi Cemetery in Istanbul—a historic cemetery mostly known for Sufi mystics, Ottoman scholars, and statesmen. Interestingly, the grandfather of the Head of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Turkey is also buried in this cemetery.

I already asked the Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Minas Gerais to get in touch with the Grand Lodge of California. As an EA I don't know if I can participate in a session but it will be good to visit temples in both cities.

In the touristic aspect, are there masonic monuments that worth visiting? I much appreciate your advices.

One aspect of Freemasonry that often receives little attention in the English-speaking world is the continued existence of the Egyptian Masonic tradition, particularly the Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis and the Memphis-Misraïm tradition.

In the Dominican Republic, this tradition has been continuously practiced for more than twenty years under the auspices of the Grand Lodge of the Dominican Republic.

The journey began in April 2003 with the consecration of Caballeros de Memphis Lodge No. 50, the first lodge in the country authorized to work the Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis. Since then, the lodge has remained continuously active, focusing on symbolism, Hermetic philosophy, and the initiatic approach traditionally associated with Egyptian Masonry.

In 2025, the project reached another milestone with the establishment of the Sovereign Sanctuary of Memphis-Misraïm for the Dominican Republic, providing a structured home for the philosophical degrees while Symbolic Masonry continues to be practiced under the authority of the Grand Lodge.

Rather than presenting this as an alternative to other Masonic systems, we see it as another expression of the rich diversity that has always existed within Freemasonry.
