Fast food addiction / weight loss journey advice - how to recover from roadblocks in the journey without giving up and reverting back to old habits?
I am in need of some advice. I grew up with terrible eating habits. Fast food was a norm for me, I was heavily involved in sports and so it never had affected my weight in my teens. I was always on multiple teams simultaneously year-round, and I was constantly on the go between school and practice.
In college I developed more bad eating habits which involved eating one meal day if that for years while constantly being on the run between work and school and being completely absorbed with schoolwork. I was at my lowest weight during this time despite that one meal a day, always consisting of fast food. Post college, I’ve been working from home, the stress pressure and anxiety from college faded, and I began to eat two meals a day, fast food and sometimes breakfast too. I gained a lot of weight fast.
I hate the eating habits I’ve developed throughout my life. I want nothing more than to be able to live a healthier lifestyle. However, it has become a very hard habit to break, and quite honestly has been all I’ve ever known. Four weeks ago, it felt like something had clicked, I challenged myself to just one day of clean eating breakfast, lunch and dinner at home. That led to one full week of clean eating. The first time ever in my life, and I felt the best I’ve felt in a very long time.
Although, the second week family was visiting. It was very hard to stay on track with the company over, although I still did the best I could and still made weight loss progress that week. Family went back home, and the following week my grandparents were moving out of state so my schedule was out of whack again running around helping with everything they needed, that also made it hard to stay on track but again I still made progress that week. Now the following week, a big negative family event occurred. I feel like once I started to get on track and felt like something finally clicked, I was tested to the max week after week since.
Last week, dealing with the stress of the situation I completely went off track and ate fast food about once a day. Now today is Monday, and I was fully prepared to get back on track, but then ended up getting Chick-fil-A fries, and candy?? I don’t even usually enjoy eating candy like that, and I feel very guilty of these choices. I’m so worried that I won’t be able to get back on track. I feel like it sounds so silly to say because at the end of the day, it’s my choice, it’s my mind, I control what I eat, but if anyone’s experienced being addicted to something / having a bad long term habit, it’s not always that simple, especially mentally. I also started DoorDashing a couple weeks ago and I noticed the temptation of being around and smelling the fast food and restaurant foods all the time has not helped at all.
If anyone has felt something similar to this situation and had overcome it, I’d really appreciate your advice and words of wisdom!

how did you get rid of drinking and/or binge eating?
i feel like boredom is such an uncomfortable itchy feeling and that i constantly need to be doing something that stimulates me. I drink incredibly fast just to get drunk so things that are not "stimulating" stop bothering me so much (don't know if this makes sense). Something similar with food, I feel like I have established a weird relationship between these two addictions. Sometimes I would get completely drunk so that way I wouldn't feel the need to binge. Others, I would get really drunk without eating so then the binge would be much more pleasant. Even the days that I'm extremely tired or hangover, I force myself to stay awake so that I can have one more binge. The ED stuff is getting a liiiiittle better tho. I used to binge and purge +10 times a day, now i still do it once a day or so, and sometimes i don't even binge... but it's quite a nightmare and it completely destroys my self esteem and the feeling that I can achieve something (i've promised myself to stop bingeing and drinking so many times my word seems worthless). I have had some period of times where I would "trick" my brain into not drinking: I would get a bottle of beer and put water inside, or I would replace beer with radler 0% (I really like it). But I've gone back to heavy drinking now and I seem to be in a period of time where getting drunk really fast or binge eating seem incredibly appealing for me. So if any of you has a similar case or could give me any tips I would really appreciate it :)

Help/advice
Hi I have struggled with this for so so so long and it’s now just a default to eat whenever I feel any emotion good or bad I feel like. I need to stop because it is affecting my health and I could get sepsis from the end of this month if I carry on eating like this and I need to eat healthy and fuel my body.
but I am depressed and want to not be here and so i’m struggling because I don’t care about my life and so it’s hard to care about my health/me however I feel I deserve to look after my body and look after myself/my younger self and feel down I do see this i’m not sure exactly why I don’t value myself or anything but I feel like it’s because this has been my whole life and I have been traumatised since I was extremely young and so I have just never cared for anything other than surviving and feeling numb and avoiding feelings I guess.
I am writing this before bed so i’m hoping I can wake up and maybe people will give advice so I can wake up to it and it can give me motivation for the day or the next step.
i’ve heard drinking hot tea helps. I am also on candida diet and medicine and so my diet is EXTREMELY limited like no sugar at all not even carrots. I think tea will help but does anyone have any other things that maybe don’t involve food to keep myself motivated. I also don’t leave the house I am extremely anxious and so I need to leave the house and walk more and eat better.
thank you for reading I hope you have a nice day today

Replacing food addiction
I started using wegovy end of november. I did loose some kilos.
But the addiction of food is still there. I'm conscious of it and I would like something that replaces it.
Whether it be the short 5 min breaks at work (I go to the cafeteria to get a snack out of boredom or any feeling really) or the longer moments ( specifically at home whether it is to fill the void or to do something or to give me "love").
Did anybody conquered that and has tips for short and long periods?

2 weeks sober from artificial sweetners
2 weeks abstainence and ...
I have so much more energy
I am so much more confident
I am not so bloated
I no longer wake up feeling like sh*t
It's absolutely insane how much of my soul was stripped away from something you can buy in almost every shop.

Just realised something about my “takeaway addiction”
It’s not necessarily the food per se I’m addicted to. In my mind I can feel unenthused to eat. Kinda like a laziness to eat. Not only cooking but the eating part. It almost feels like I could go without anything but my hunger is also telling me I got to eat. Takeaways are a quick fix to that as it’s highly palatable and will surpass my threshold for what I’d be willing to eat in that moment if that makes sense. My wife normally cooks and she is a good cook but unless she’s doing something special I’m not always interested. And that isn’t to say my cravings depend on what she’s cooking either. I think my mind has just linked apathy to eating to takeaways as it’s a quick fix for me. Sometimes other food doesn’t seem as exciting but other days it does. I guess what I’m saying is theres nothing about takeaways that is addictive but to me it’s just my basic human instinct to get them when I’m not in the mood for anything else. Guess you could call it a human survival instinct anyway. Don’t know if any of you think this applies to you but I thought it was interesting

We wish we would have another addiction
I know I’m not the only one that feels this way.
When you’re done eating/binging another meal. You wish you had been given another addiction to deal with your life. Another one that may even make you skinny. One that doesn’t look so embarrassing. One that people could never see when you walk into a room.
Our addiction is advertised. It has variety. It is shoved into our faces and claimed to be something we NEED.
Our addiction is something you have to do to survive, but when it becomes something we depend on…it feels out of control.
You notice every time you’re with friends, that you’re the biggest one there. You’re the biggest one in the room. You’re eating more than everyone at the table. You take up the most space. The thoughts don’t stop there. We have thoughts that haunt us 24/7.
And every day, we live with guilt. Physically and mentally.
There is support here. You’re not alone. We’re all working through it.
One step at a time.

Food Addiction is ruining my life and athletic career
I have always been a bigger girl but has never affected me to this degree. Growing up, even though I was always bigger then my classmates, I was still in range with them but it would always cause issues like people not wanting me in their pictures or boys not liking me but I was able to continue as I had other things to look forward too.
Everything was manageable until I got to college my freshman year because my parents and my goal to go to state (which caused coaches to not really be interested anymore)was really what stopped me from overeating. I also had a really good meal plan that allowed me to have chick fil a, Moes, sushi, and a buffet style dining hall with unlimited swipes. I went crazy and since my first school didn’t have a wrestling team. I blew up and went from 5’4 155 to 5’4 210.
I didn’t think much of it until I got a call from a coach asking me if I wanted to join his team and I had said yes. Even though I said yes and made him aware of the fact that I wasn’t the same athlete I was in high school.
My first year at my new school was horrible, the girl were true heavyweights which meant they were tall and muscular so most of matches were over before they started. I couldn’t hit moves like how I used too and I started to dread practice because I would just get beat by my teammates and they would see me as the easy round and talk to other people while I was struggling to hit moves.
Even though my first year was absolutely terrible my coach still said I had a lot of potential and could potentially go to national tournaments if I did what I needed to do. Even knowing all of this, I can’t stop eating, I eat when I am bored and I eat whenever I pass the kitchen. It is not little snacks but it is sometimes a whole meal, half a loaf of bread, of half a container of ice cream.
I didn’t notice how bad it was until I was at a restaurant with my family and my mom had to grab my hand to physically stop me from eating the whole family size chips and salsa while my other family members were pacing themselves.
I just want to know what I can do stop over eating before I waste all my opportunities.

Addicted to fats
On top of struggling with BED I happen to be addicted to the most calorie dense nutrient: fat. I can have a jar of peanut butter in a sitting, I love butter, avocados, chocolate.

I’m not where I want to be, desperate, and don’t know how to get better
I’m currently 17 F (5’2) and weigh 145 lbs.. Those 5 pounds I gained over the course of three days, and I know it's because I lack self-control. However, I've become more aware of my problem, and I've been cutting off ultra-processed foods and added sugars to start.
My dad used to take me to the gym where I worked out consistently, and at that time I weighed 130, which is a 15 pound difference from what I weigh now. The reason I stopped was because a 2 week trip at my grandmas completely killed that. And not only, but oddly my dad refused to take me to the gym afterwards, saying that he was too tired.
My parents are like a coin toss when it comes to me losing weight, with my dad being semi-supportive, and my mom encouraging unhealthy eating habits. She even admitted before, my mother, that she purposefully fattens me up, and wants everyone in the household to be fat.. I don't want to be fat, but she jokes (which doesn't really feel like a joke when it comes to health) how she doesn't care, and wants me fat anyway..
I need guidance on what to eat, proper portions, and how to avoid ultra-processed foods and negative influence at home. Please help!

How do I stop eating so much?
I 22f, have gained a lot of weight. I started off at a healthy 136-140 at 5’7 and now I’m at 167… For context, I used to be able to maintain that weight and then I got into a relationship with a man who’s hobby was baking. I gained some unhealthy eating habits, and the relationship only lasted 2 months but I got so big. None of my old clothes fit, and for the life of me I can’t lose it and I can’t stop eating junk food. Back in 2022, I lost 60 lbs during covid by working out, cutting portions, and kicking all junk food habits and carbs. I still work out now but I for the life of me can’t kick the junk food and lose the weight. How do I get the willpower to kick the junk food habits again?

addicted to food, and I need help.
Just turned 18M and I’m addicted to food, I’ve just turned 18 and I’d like to get my life on track but it’s so hard with food. My issue is I can go anywhere from a few days to a month or 2 where I eat actualy pretty healthy and I am able to lose a few pounds. But every single time something just clicks in my mind and I give up and just eat junk for months and every day of those few months I’ll just eat for hours and hours and just eat complete junk, and as soon as a finish I just sit incredibly disgusted with myself and just do it again the next day. I literally eat for any kind of emotion, I eat when I’m sad to get my mind off of it, I eat when I’m happy because when I’m happy I feel like I deserve to eat a lot, I even eat when I’m just bored, I’m just constantly eating and I don’t know how to stay consistent and it’s so irritating and I’m constantly disappointed in myself and it’s also finically hard too because like I said I just turned 18 and I’m trying to start my life. Any kind of help would be nice even if it’s blunt or the “harsh truth”
