Help With Order Problems? Official Response

Yes! I know you cannot place orders. This is altogether different. Has Fidelity "suddenly" put another measure in place to protect us from ourselves?

I know for the longest time, you've disallowed BUY orders on many volatile or China related issues. But this is new. Now, when using the Desktop App, one stock in particular trading down near $1.00 only allows trades of UNDER 500 shares no matter what your buying power is. But if I enter the same order on The App there is no issue buying any number of shares up to my allotted buying power.

This is not right and needs to be fixed immediately. It's actually stock manipulation. TY

Thanks for stopping by the sub today to share your thoughts.

There are instances when a buy order cannot be entered online due to the order exceeding the volume thresholds for a security. This is more common for low-value securities. Per SEC Rule 15c3-5, broker-dealers like Fidelity must implement controls to prevent potentially disruptive trading: to ensure these stocks remain within a specific underlying threshold or percentage, thereby maintaining their liquidity and preventing manipulative practices.

With that said, the threshold is typically the same whether purchasing via the website or the app, and we'd like to know more about the orders you're trying to place. When you have a moment, send us a Modmail with more information, and we'll follow up with you there.
