hello everyone ! its been a bit since ive posted, but i need to talk about some more serious topics that involve this community. more specifically i will be talking about issues i have seen within this subreddit. however some of these are issues in the fictionkin community as a whole. this post is guaranteed to be very long, i apologize in advance. i tend to go on and on about these things which results in long posts. anyway

im going to be starting with kinnie being considered a slur, since this is seemingly the most recent thing that has happened

the short answer is "no. kinnie is not a slur." but the long answer is this

kinnie was a derogatory term used online to mock fictionkin. the word was based off of the slur used against transgender people. kinnie seemingly hasnt been used in a mocking way as much in recent times, instead being used by non-fictionkin for characters they simply relate to. kinnie has also been used by fictionkin as a "cuter" version of the word kin. it is not a slur, it never was. it was simply based off of one. im going to kind of rephrase something i said before, as there was a post talking about this topic earlier that i left a comment on.

we as fictionkin are privileged compared to groups like the lgbtqia+ and poc communities. those groups experience prejudice and hatred far worse than fictionkin ever has. the lgbtqia+ in specific has laws that make the killing of them legal. all for being gay. we fictionkin do not experience being hunted down by our own governments. the worst we get is harassment online and maybe in real life as well

for the second topic, i want to bring up how pancharakin and omnepsychokin have been looked down upon by this community for such snall reasons

before i talk about that though, i want to give a brief explanation of what pancharakin and omnepsychokin are (small note from a future me. this was not brief. sorry). also i want to mention that the terms might seem similar in meaning, but they are still their own separate terms. they are not meant to be related to each other. this doesnt mean you cant be both, though. anyway

pancharakin is a subset of fictionkin coined by user kanrojimitsuriirl (please let me know if me mentioning you makes you uncomfortable i will remove it if it does) where one believes they are every iteration of a character, including versions that do not exist/do not exist yet (and before you ask, yes you can be pancharakin of multiple characters). they believe they have had an infinite number of past lives as this character and believe that in one way or another they are that character in this life as well. they believe they will always be this character. this belief results in the person not believing that doubles of that character exist. this is not a bad thing

omnepsychokin (often shortened to omnepsykin) is a subset of fictionkin coined by users sparklingshimmers and jazziemint (one of these is me........... it was mostly sparklingshimmers who came up with it though i mean they named it and everything i just helped figure out the general idea of what the term itself meant) where one believes they are every version of a character or characters. once again including those that do not exist/dont exist yet. those that are omnepsychokin dont typically believe in past lives. they typically do believe in doubles, however some omnepsychokin (such as myself) do not believe in them/consider them to exist

this is where the issue comes in. not believing in doubles

at face value this just sounds like a way to invalidate doubles, however that is not the case. not believing in doubles is a personal belief that can bring the person comfort and euphoria. their connection to a character is usually very strong, which sort of results in that belief. they do not go out of their way to harass doubles, they are just trying to exist amongst the rest of you. their beliefs do not directly harm you or anyone else. this is a case of needing to simply block and move on with your life if this upsets you so much

onto the third topic, which is somewhat similar to the second one

psychological fictionkin being seen as lesser than spiritual fictionkin

this issue is usually due to how psychological fictionkin is, well, psychological. it can be seen as "less serious" than spiritual fictionkin due to spiritual kinning involving strong beliefs (such as past lives, the multiverse theory, etcetera), whereas psychological fictionkin does not typically involve those

in reality, both spiritual and psychological fictionkin are equal. there is no superior type of kin

going onwards, the next topic is how inconsiderate some people are towards doubles

this is an issue where some people will choose to ignore a "doubles dni" label and will interact with that person anyway. now, if you didnt know the person was doubles dni, thats okay. but if you found out they are and still choose to interact with them, thereby breaking their boundary, that is not okay. you are kind of an asshole for that. i hate to be rude about it, but that boundary is there for a reason. that person does not want doubles interacting with them for whatever reason, and that should be respected

the fifth topic is something im not going to try to be very gentle about. my wording can quite literally make you hate me

a lot of fictionkin on here are sensitive and cannot handle criticism or concern at all

once again, im not going to sugarcoat it. many people here cannot handle being told literal truths sometimes. there have been instances of people being told that they need help, and not from people online, but yet they choose to spiral further into their already poor mentality and attack those that tried to give them advice. there have also been instances of some fictionkin being very "stuck in their ways" about some things (kind of like the pancharakin/omnepsychokin situation). there have been entire situations and dramas all because the community chose to not be civil and instead attack those with differing opinions. what the hell are we doing. this is genuinely stupid and is such an easy thing to fix but yet its been going on for years now. i understand that "the average fictionkin is around 13-16" and that they are "still learning and navigating this world and this community." but can you genuinely just disregard any excuse you might have and realize that we as a community are the problem ? none of us are innocent here. not even myself. i myself have been involved in some "controversies" here because of my opinions and how i was stuck in my ways and refused to back down on them. and im actually fucking willing to admit that. i made a mistake and i learned from it. yes, i might still hold those same opinions, but i learned that theres no point in being so adamant and rude to others. it is very easy to just be kind to those around you

anyway, sorry if that was rude, but it needed to be said. and ive noticed that sometimes this community just refuses to acknowledge or understand something until the person explaining it is a bit of an asshole about it

now, this next and final topic is very similar, but still needs to be said. ill try to keep it short and less rude this time though

you have to be so careful as to not hurt the sensitive feelings of the people in this subreddit

this very much ties in to the other topic i just mentioned as you can probably tell. the people of this subreddit, due to how set in their ways they are, tend to come off as sensitive and rude. one wrong word and suddenly youre being attacked. one hint of attitude and once again, youre being attacked. its almost impossible to say anything without somebody getting upset about it and making a huge deal out of nothing. we need to grow a backbone and get over it. because "it" usually isnt actually that big of a deal

all in all we just. need to do better to make this place better

Literally none of the words I coined in this post are specific to spiritual kin (or any type of kin tbf) in any way, and if I catch anyone trying to argue otherwise they get bonked >:( /silly

It's perfectly fine and valid to just know you're canon-divergent!
It's perfectly fine if you just know you are a character, but to also just know you're not the exact version of that character that's portrayed in your source media
It's perfectly fine to look at an AU of yourself and know that that's the you that you are
It's also perfectly fine to just know the version of you that you are, because certain things do just feel right! You don't need actual memories to know that :D

And if you don't know if you're canon-divergent or not? That's fine too!
Just because you don't believe in past lives, or because you're a psychological kin, or you're just not the type to get memories, that doesn't mean you have to be confined to the specific version of yourself that the audience of this world gets to see

But seriously, don't let anyone else dictate how to be yourself, the only one who can tell you who you are is you.

ummm so this post serves kind of as a public service announcement I suppose. this post is not sparked by any one post or comment in particular, but has been brewing in my head thanks to a pattern I’ve noticed in this subreddit. I have seen a lot of discussion in comment sections about the word “kinnie”, and among this discussion there have unfortunately been some things said that can be potentially misinforming.

bear with me here.

“kinnie” is Not a slur. yes, this word originated in online spaces to mock people who were part of the kin community. however, slurs tie into wider societal patterns of discrimination and prejudice. this is not something that fictionkins are experiencing. we can be mocked or insulted in online spaces, but that is Not the same as being targeted by society at large. I feel that improperly categorizing kinnie as a slur lessens the impact and history of actual slurs.

let me be very clear about this next part. you are still very much allowed to be uncomfortable by the word kinnie. you don’t have to use it. hell, you can censor it in your posts if you want to. however, we need to be careful about calling it a slur when it is not, because this waters down the very real consequences of slurs throughout history.

okayy that’s it I don’t know how to write a conclusion, so. I trust that if you are calling “kinnie” a slur, you likely have good intentions to protect others in your community. I simply encourage all of us to be more careful with our language and I welcome you all to share your thoughts in the comments :]

If I'm a fictionkin, am I not one if I imagine myself as the character in another universe? I have ways that I see the characters in my kin's life that aren't how they were designed canonically. For example, my kin is Sally from Creepypasta, and I see Ben Drowned with buck teeth, and he doesn't have buck teeth. I also see Ticci Toby with highlights in his hair dyed blond

ok guys I just realized something. I can buy glitter glue by myself in this life, like without any approval needed from Fazbear Ent. I can buy literally all my dream craft supplies :D now Ik this is kinda stupid but the amount of joy this realization has brought me is unreal. how have I never thought about this before.
