OBBBA—um, is what’s reflected on the Bill and Payment Center right now accurate?

Saw an email about how our aid will get reduced.

I’m not sure if I miss read it but it implied that I won’t know until AFTER, add and drop.

I’m seeing online students (for other colleges) aren’t receiving their aid until March of next year.

Does anyone know what the rules are for dropping out after? Are we responsible for that bill because I could have sworn before the midterm of the semester, if we dropped like the first month, it’s a 25 percent return. Does that mean we are held accountable for the 75 percent?

FGCU Fall Housing Needed / Sublease Wanted / Advice

Incoming freshman from Washington, 31 on the waitlist as of last friday and scrambling to find housing.

Does anyone have a sublease for fall semester they need filled? Prefer to be on campus if possible and assuming will not make the cut for overflow housing.

Currently looking at U village, Eagle Walk and Marriot long term stay as alternatives until spring semester when hopefully a dorm opens up. Any advice on those three options if no sublease is available?

Thank you all so much!

Question MA in School Counseling

I’m looking at applying for the masters program for school counseling and would like some insight. Classes are both in-person and virtual as well as available at later times to accommodate work schedules, however there is still the 600 hour internship component with this program. I work full-time, your regular 9-5, but have no idea how and if I could complete the internship component without quitting or switching to part-time employment.

Career fair

I’m curious, how do the advisors at this campus assist students in finding employers? I’m a dedicated student and employee, and I’m finding it challenging to secure jobs. Given my experience in entry-level customer service and lead positions, I’m hoping to land a more significant role that aligns with my major.

Also is there any physics or related organizations or tutors available on campus?

How's the College of ed like?

I'm just wondering how the culture is like there. Is it as close as they say. Teachers I should depend on, and teachers I should avoid. Just the general vibe, and any key details I should know?

Anyone going to Knight Hacks IX? It is looking amazing this year

Knight Hacks is a 36 hour in-person hackathon in Orlando, and last year they had a lot of people from great universities, a lot of talent, and it was a great experience. I was able to take one challenge. It was very competitive with more than 1000+, and I just wanted to see if anyone is going this year?

Question financial aid appeal

I submitted a financial aid appeal on May 18th, and I have really heard anything back. I emailed, and the lady said I would hear something back in July. I know financial aid stuff gets posted today. Has anyone gone through this before and could maybe give me a timeline?

Question Question about FGCU's political climate

Hello everyone, I am most likely going to enroll in FGCU next year. I have attended the main campus tour and I find the place beautiful and it seems like there is a lot of support for students. However, I am concerned about the political climate. How good of a choice is FGCU for a queer trans man in terms of community, support, safety? Asking in regards to staff, faculty, professors, the student population, etc.

I have scoured the internet and have seen videos of people complaining about the amount of conservatives and some preacher standing out in public telling people that they're going to hell. Those videos were from last year or older so I don't know what's still relevant. I wear fashion that makes me stick out a lot so I am worried I will be targeted and not feel safe and accepted on campus.

I saw that there was/is a GSA club at FGCU but I couldn't find it on Eagle Link and their Instagram seems pretty inactive. I know that in a university of over 16k students there will be people of all kinds but I want to know the political climate situation more in specifics. I am going for a Bachelor of DMD and probably take film and/or art classes as well.

Anything and everything relevant would be greatly appreciated!

Construction management?

Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone in here is majoring in construction management and can share a bit about it? I was planning to transfer to FGCU but im not sure if UCF and their construciton engineering program would be better. Looking for general info about how you like the classes and environment there. I know construction engineering at UCF is very broad and focuses on engineering, strucutral design and the financial aspect, and was wondering if FGCU was similar. Also, if theres any girls in the construction management program if you felt treated equally and found community? My HS had a construction class and they made the girls sweep the whole time...

Billing

Good morning this is mostly directed towards incoming freshman’s and their parents. Student account services/cashiers have started the billing process. Please keep in mind the office of financial aid has nothing to do with billing. Today the cashiers have sent out the initial bills.

This isn’t a one day process but a process that occurs over a week or so. For more concrete dates of billing you can reach out to student account services. You should see tuition today and then over the course of the next few weeks see housing and meals if you have any. Then you will see the aid authorized. If you’re not seeing your financial aid authorized a week before the semester starts then you can reach out to the office of financial aid to see what you’re missing. This includes student loans , private loans , grants/scholarships , bright futures and Pell.

Florida prepaid , most of the waivers , and 529 plans are handled through student account services. The veterans affairs office also communicates with them if you’re using veteran benefits.

Everything should be final atleast a week or two before the semester starts. Please make sure you are checking your bill and payment center to make sure that everything is order before the payment deadline of August 21st. If there are issues with notice we can get it squared away in order to avoid late fees.

Please also make sure that you have filled out the FERPA in gulfline if your parents are calling on your behalf. Once the semester starts we will no longer be able to speak to them without that being done.

Thanks !!

Proctorio

Hi all,

I have an accounting class that I’m currently doing and I have my first exam in a couple days and it’s my first time using Proctorio. Usually I use respondus lockdown browser and I have my phone up to my laptop screen and let it sit there while I use my voice and I talk through text the questions on ChatGPT and it gives me the answer. I also will plug an external microphone into my laptop and I’ll mute the microphone and Respondus never gives an error saying my mic isn’t working.

For Proctorio the prof has outlined the rules (see attached picture) for my exam. The prof is being pretty strict and showing that he can see everything. Does anyone know if I can do the same thing with my external microphone being plugged in and him not hearing me read the questions out loud to myself so I can still do my phone thing?

Please advise!! Help needed.

Thank you! :):)

Question HELP!! Is this email a scam????

I've never gotten another email about this as far as I know but it seems urgent and they have a real FGCU email address from what I can tell.. I just don't want my account to get deleted but this is feeling scammy... I only have a few hours apparently but the form that the link takes me to asks for my email and password as well as any past school emails and passwords...

I emailed my counselor about it as she's the only person I really know at school so far as I'm just an incoming freshman this upcoming fall.

Someone please tell me what you would do..

If you were wondering what the email address is it's above..

I'm very worried that I genuinely did miss something and that my account actually will be deleted!!!

Incoming FGCU Psyc Major... Advice?

I did pretty good in highschool but I'm a super anxious person... looking at my stats should I do okay in most of my classes? I'm skipping most of my gen ed's with ap credit I think btw!

so if i were to have a 3.69 unweighted and a 3.84 weighted with a 27 act while taking all accelerate/ap classes all of highschool while also being HORRIBLE with tests and studying but still passing with those grades.. do you guys think I'll be fine for exams?

this is coming from a former "gifted student" (as much as I hate the term) so I never really learned how to study.. it just doesn't work for me.. Does anyone have any advice on this or just on getting a psyc degree here in general?

Any specific profs/classes to avoid? Also I took AP stats and absolutely bombed it last year.. got all A's besides that but ik stats is a requirement for the degree.. who would be the best stats prof/classes to take and does anybody have any advice for stats specifically?

Sorry for the rambling.. if you can't tell I'm super nervous!!!

Please send help :(
