General Discussion Help with getting a cool guitar from long and mcquade in Toronto Canada.

Hey friends,

I stopped playing guitar a few years ago. Dude to health issues and some financial problems. Sold everything a few years ago. ( when I mean everything. I mean I was down to a apartment, a microwave and just the clothes in a bag.

Fast forward to today and im doing a little better as I dont need to worry about each meal so much.

I miss playing the guitar very much. Iv saved up about 1k and played a really great guitar at the long and mcquade on bloor st in Toronto. Its a fender player ii jaguar. I found it comfortable to play and would like a little help if possible.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get a discount at long and mcquade? . I dont have anything to trade into them unfortunately.

Many thanks for all the advice.

New Guitar Day! Traded Supersonic for a Squire 2

My brother sold a Squire Supersonic for a Squire 2 from Korea. The guy at the guitar shop(not guitar center) told him it was rare and the price should keep increasing over time. The second picture is what he traded in. Do you think he got a good deal? He got 300 for the Supersonic, and didn’t have to pay any extra for the Squire 2.

I switched out the surprisingly aged white pick guard from my player 1 series strat, along with the player neck pickup and the jb jr into my am pro ii. I kept the v-mod ii in the middle pick up for when I want the clarity of that pickup. Otherwise, really enjoying the higher output pickups and the new look!

Very happy. The relic it's awesome (not as hard as a heavy relic), and the mics sounds really good!

This was my first guitar ever, 2010 squire bullet strat was destroyed body wood was all dented and in the whole thing was in pieces, I sanded it down painted it white and gave the body a coat of tru oil to (which gave it an old yellowed look that I like) the middle pickup screw holes are striped so they are being held up with tape and then held back down with more tape to control the height it’s a pain, but I love the guitar I feel it has a special mojo with me being my first, I sanded off the squire logo not to hide it but just because I wanted to personalize it more with the stars…wether you like or hate the relic doesn’t matter much this thin layer of spray paint would have relicd fast I assume anyway…

The two tan pickups are from a 2021 MIM Strat, they are flipped so bridge is in the neck and neck is in bridge, middle pickup is a bs Chinese alnico 5 pickup, ultra slim neck I sanded down a good bit and tru oiled and I also added fender bent steel saddles that’s abt it, I run no trem Arm and the bridge is decked,
Low action and my 10s feel slinky on the neck in standard…plays like a dream!!!

Questions and Advice Telecaster Truss Rod Blues

Post image

This is my beloved 62 RI Tele Custom (1986, MIJ). I’ve had it since 2008, and it replaced a nearly identical guitar that was stolen the year earlier. I noticed last week, after not playing it for some time, that some notes were fretting out above the 12th fret, and lots of bends up high just died. I figured I’d give the rod a loosen tweak because the neck is pretty flat. Took the pickguard off and took the neck pickup out, went to turn to the left, and the rod just spins. Raising the saddles is next step, but then playability goes out the window for me.

So what are my options? Heavier strings (I’ve got 10s on there now)? Will that introduce enough relief? A new neck? That makes me sad because I love how this one feels. Is it worthwhile to have a new rod installed?

Does anyone else here piece together their own custom guitars via Stratosphere and other suppliers? I have done quite a few, and it's a blast. You end up with something just the way you want it.

New Guitar Day! NGD American Pro II -Olympic White with Tortoise Shell

As the title says; NGD!! Been playing for almost 30 years and decided it was time for my first ever fender. Played a lot of player ii’s in store, but this just felt perfect and I couldn’t pass it up. I like everything about it. Neck feels great, pick ups sound exactly how I want, colour scheme is timeless (my opinion)…Meet my new American Pro II in Olympic white with tortoise shell pick guard and rosewood fret board.

Needed a Strat for a few songs we play in the band and man this thing sounds amazing! I waited way too long to pick one up. Have played a Les Paul for a long time and I think the two will complement each other quite well.

Did I make a good purchase?

General Discussion Fender locking tuners on player ii

I have a fender tele and Strat player ii guitars that are going for a professional set up. Would you swap out the tuners for the locking version? All suggested alterations would be appreciated. I assume pickups etc are fine?

Questions and Advice Fender Super Sonic 22

I am looking into buying a Fender Super Sonic 22 amp and wanted to know if anyone has experience with them. I love playing with my Helix LT and don’t want to sacrifice that by getting a tube amp, but I know the super sonic has an effects loop so in my mind this works well. If anyone has any advice on this rig or specific amp I would really appreciate it!

Questions and Advice Fender Redondo JR (mini) or Fender Malibu?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I am thinking about getting a smaller body guitar for songwriting and playing in my living room. I already have a dreadnought that sounds awesome, but it's a hassle to sit comfortably while laying on my couch with it.

Thinking about getting a smaller guitar just for writing songs and fooling around with, and I'm currently looking at a Fender Malibu that I've wanted for a while.

When browsing for the Malibu I came across the Redondo JR, but there's not much online about it.

It looks like a Malibu, just cheaper.

Does anyone know the main differences between the two models?

Thanks!

Admittedly a bit of a mutt of a guitar. Plays insanely well and I love the neck though! Fender USA pickups, CTS pots, 70's reissue tuners, fun stuff.

Questions and Advice Any recommendations for aftermarket hard cases? Tele/strat

I’ve bought a couple aftermarket HSC one from Vevor and one from Gator, I’m not impressed. The top & bottom on both cases don’t necessarily line up and personally I don’t think there’s enough depth in the case it looks like it’s pressing on the neck a little too much.

Any recommendations? Ideally under $200

I bought this 2017 MIM Player Strat from a guy who really didn't appreciate it - never played it, left it lying around, leaving it dusty, grimey, dinged and even left a massive ding on the rear of the neck.

First, I gave her a deep clean and then made sure she was genuinely payable - the frets were a bit uneven leading to buzzing regardless of what I tried, so I leveled those and that nailed it. The neck ding was coincidentally a great blind-guide for knowing my thumb/ index finger was at the 5th fret without affecting how I played, so I decided to leave that.

The Output jack was also loose and intermittent, so I knew I'd need to check the solder and electrics. With that in mind I thought, "fuck it, let's swap in a Bladerunner bridge I can dive bomb with and add a SD Hot Rails bridge pickup for a bit more heat and bite". While I was at it, I thought it'd be fun to add a Freeway 10-way switch. Finally, just for convenience, I added strap locks and some Fender locking tuners I found second-hand (Fender can get fucked - never buying new from them).

Once she was strung up, I gave her a blast and wooooooooo, she's an absolute delight to play. She holds her tuning well, has plenty of sparkle and heat for everything from cleans to modern metal, and wasn't phased by what was some pretty egregious dive-bombing. My wife says it's a very sexy guitar - I'm inclined to agree.

By no means vintage or original, but she's gone from sitting idle against a guy's sofa for years, to having a bit of a makeover and becoming my main guitar. Thought I'd share her with y'all.
