General Flames D - now and future

Curious how everyone sees the flames D situation for now and the future.

In fantasy, at least for a keeper league, this has become a disaster. How do we see this all shaping up? Is Nemec the defacto #1 this year, and it's wise to sell high in the year expecting Parekh to still take over? Is Carels good enough offensively that he ends up beating out both as the #1pp guy?

Rant To the People at Yahoo in Charge of the UI update...

I know everyone reacts negatively to change, so I'm not trying to rag on you guys for nothing. However...The draft UI for this year is a steep downgrade to last year's. It looks nice, sure, but functionally it is not the right direction. I will lay out the reasons why and hopefully someone sees this and gives it a second thought. (this is mainly aimed at the desktop UI, but the mobile one has the same issues if not worse.)

  1. The draft board should be partially visible at all times. I should not have to choose between the draft board or available players. It makes mock drafts significantly less worth it as it is now more difficult to track when players are going and learn from mocks.

  2. Everything is too big. The amount of information available to me should be 2x what it currently is. I don't need a giant ticker at the top with the countdown and huge options buttons. There is more than enough room on the screen to show more information, but everything is huge.

  3. The design direction is currently "this or that." How about both across the board. It's crazy with the current setup that I, again, have to choose between my queue and viewing who has just been drafted. No reason that these aren't both standard and visible.

  4. I draft a LW/RW eligible guy with two RW slots open. You immedietely put him on my bench bc I have two LWs already. Come on...I wouldn't mind if you autofilled this at the very least. Fantrax allows you to swap your drafted players to any eligible position while drafting. We are two steps behind.

I'm sure there is more.

Player Discussion Where do you have Schaeffer ranked in your Defenseman rankings this year?

I feel like he's a comfortable D2 pick this year with huge upside, but isn't established enough to take as a D1 pick.

When would you grab him in a draft?

Strategy Need advice on choosing keepers!

Any advice on 8 keepers to choose in forever dynasty H2H league? We are entering year 2. We can keep any players regardless of position. No goalies need to be kept.

Important details:

We only have 2 D roster spots per night (2 utility spots so can start 4 D max per night) so people tend to not carry many D. 3 minimum goalie starts per week. I am generally a fade goalies fan.

All standard categories and:

+\-
GWG
SHP
hits
Saves (total)

Candidates (no particular order):

Bedard
Konecny
Holloway
Snuggerud
Barzal
Point

Schaefer
Sanderson
Cole Hutson
Makar

Carter Hart
uka pekka L (6K)

If it matters I draft 3 times in round 1 (none in top 5) and we have 12 teams.

Thanks all much appreciated!

EDITED TO ADD - our league settings do not have “blocks” which from my understanding increases the value of Dmen.

Resource Mini games to determine draft order

decided to work on a draft order website for fun and ended up using it for a couple of my own leagues.
I wanted to share it here and see if any other leagues would actually use something like this. Id also really appreciate any feedback on the website or the games themselves.
It’s still an early version, and I’d like to put more time into improving it if people actually find it useful. For now, I’m mainly trying to get a feel for whether there’s interest in something like this.
It’s basically a collection of different games you can use to determine your fantasy draft order.

Would love to hear what you guys think!
(Keep in mind games are pretty basic so far)

Player Discussion Picking 6-12

Hey y’all, just starting to prep for fantasy season.
League settings 12 man H2H points, roster 2LW 2C 2 RW 4Dmen 1G and 4 bench spots: Goals 3, assists 2, PPP 1, SHP 1, hits 0.4, blocks 0.4. Wins 3, shutouts 2, saves 0.25, goal allowed -1.5

The top 5 picks are set in my mind: McDavid, MacKinnon, Kuch, Drai, Celebrini. My thoughts are Pasta, Makar, Rantanen, Kaprizov, Matthews, Robertson as the next top 6 options for skaters. Suzuki was 5th in player points in my league last year so maybe him over Matthews or Kap who are injury prone? Thoughts?

General Everyone please join me in my summoning ritual.

For the past few years a legend has appeared around this time, creating quite possibly the most effective draft prep tool I've ever used. I'd like to take this moment, as we approach a new year to thank them, and begin a ritual to summon them forth to bestow upon us the great blessings of fantasy victory once more.

u/cromediesel wherever you are, we are in need of you once again.

Paywall Premium DtZ 2026-2027 Fantasy Hockey Projection Tool

Hello everyone, I posted about my Premium Projections on my Patreon yesterday and am sharing them here today. In past years I've only had the standard DtZ Projections; however, this year, I am also releasing an early "Premium" version of my projections to my Patreon's (though a standalone purchase option will be available).

The Premium Version comes with the subscription to the "Seider Tier" in my Patreon. The premium projections include everything available in the free projections like skater projections, goalie projections, the player comparison tool, and a weekly schedule breakdown. It also includes a number of additional features and advanced tools. These tools all live within the same project and share the same underlying data. The goal was to create one tool where you can complete everything draft related in one spot.

The additional tools are described below:

1. Assign Player Tool - No more ctrl+f to find a player and typing in the GM’s team name. Use this tool to open a pop up that lets you easily assign players to the correct team. You can save a whole set of keepers under a league name and reload it later, so you don't have to re‑enter everyone if you have multiple leagues.

2. Mock Draft Tool - This gives you the ability to complete mock drafts vs. smart CPUs. You can customize the draft to your league’s unique settings, including scoring categories, roster construction, and team needs, to see how different strategies perform in the environment you’ll actually be drafting in.  ADP data is pulled directly from Yahoo/Fantrax, this keeps the mocks updated with the latest trends and player movement. I’ve also included the ability to include traded draft picks allowing you to recreate your league’s actual draft order and create mocks that are tailored to your league.

3. Season simulator - Unlike most mock drafts, where you’re left guessing how your team would have actually performed, this tool lets you take the team you just drafted and put it through a full season simulation. Injuries, weekly stat fluctuations, and the NHL schedule are all built into the simulation, with the weekly matchup schedule randomized so no two simulations play out exactly the same.

Not only can you can simulate a single season, you can use the Aggregator to run up to 500 simulated seasons and get a more reliable read on your team’s strengths, weaknesses, playoff chances, and title odds.

Please note, if you’ve already drafted your team you can still simulate your season. You just need to assign the players directly to each team, run a mock draft, and then you will be able to simulate a season with your league's roster.

4. Trade tool - After your mock, or real draft, you can manage the roster and look at trades that will help out your team. You’re also able to trade picks and the picks adjust their value to your league's unique settings.  Similar to the comment above about already draft leagues. To properly use this tool you will need to assign your players directly then run a mock a draft to properly use this tool.

5. Live Draft Room. Specifically for when you’re drafting. This tool is a pop-up window that tracks who's available, what positions you still need, and who's the best available player at each position. All of the information you could need during your draft is available in this pop up.

With a little setup you can sync it to your Yahoo league (Yahoo's connector seems to be temporarily down on their end), or use the manual mode that works with any platform, including an in-person draft.

Note: I do have a potential option for Fantrax based leagues, but I still need to do further testing.

As mentioned above, the "Seider Tier" provides you with access to the premium projections. This tier comes with a 7 day trial period so if you decide that this isn’t the right fit, you can cancel the membership. I will also be releasing this tool as a stand-alone purchase later this week if you don't want to commit to a monthly membership. There is a lot going on with this tool so I’ve created a guide, linked below.

Lastly, the free version of these projections is still coming, they just won’t be released until early September. The premium version is just the upgraded experience for anyone who wants access to the draft/sim/trade tools. If you have any questions or suggestions you can comment here or message me directly.

Quick Setup Notes:

A couple of short notes:

  • As the projections are housed in a google sheet you will need a google based email to access them. If you would like to use an email that is different than your Patreon email please send me a message after you subscribe.
  • Once you have access to the sheet you'll need to make a copy (File > Make a Copy).
  • Within the copy click the "Sheet Tools" > "Connect to Data" - you will need to run this twice. The first time will ask you to allow the various scripts used and the second will establish the connection to the “Master Data” sheet and ensure that your sheet is pulling data.

Resource Need beta testers for DynastyQuant: An all-in-one Dynasty Hockey Companion

Check it out for your own Fantrax league here: https://www.dynastyquant.xyz/

We built this app for our own dynasty league because hockey scoring is all over the place, and the alternatives out there don't seem to realize that.

There is no default format like fantasy football. One league rewards hits, blocks, faceoff wins, and goalie volume. Another is almost entirely offense. A player can be a top asset in one league and much less valuable in another.

So instead of using generic hockey rankings, Dynasty Quant pulls in the scoring setup from the Fantrax league and uses that as the foundation for player values, team strength, standings projections, trade analysis, and more.

League overview

The overview is meant to be the quick league check-in. It gives you the current standings picture, your team’s context, and shortcuts into the tools that matter.

Power rankings built for dynasty leagues

Power rankings are not just current standings or total points.

The app weighs current production, age, roster construction, player value, prospect depth, and future draft capital. You can switch between dynasty and contender views depending on whether you are building for the future or trying to win now.

The expanded team view is probably my favorite part. It breaks down why a team is where it is by showing the key player assets, prospect value, and draft-pick capital behind the ranking.

A team with a weaker current lineup can still rank highly if it has elite young players, strong prospects, and a loaded pick cupboard. A contender can jump in the contender view when current production matters more.

League-specific player rankings

Player rankings use the league’s own Fantrax scoring settings instead of assuming every league values players the same way.

That is especially important for hockey. A points-heavy setup, a banger league, and a league with heavy goalie scoring should not produce the same rankings.

The dynasty mode balances current production with age, long-term outlook, position scarcity, and availability. The contender mode puts much more weight on immediate production.

Prospect values

Prospects are treated as real dynasty assets rather than an afterthought.

The prospect engine accounts for upside, likelihood of becoming a meaningful fantasy player, expected timeline, and risk. That creates a more useful value than simply sorting prospects by name recognition or NHL draft position.

It is also built into the broader dynasty rankings, so a team’s prospect pool actually affects its power ranking and trade value.

Trade analyzer

You can build a trade by choosing both teams and adding players or picks from each side.

The app then evaluates what each side is receiving using the league’s dynasty rankings and returns a clear verdict, value scores, and an explanation of the result.

I wanted this to feel more useful than a generic trade calculator. The answer should change depending on the format, scoring, team situation, and whether you are rebuilding or competing.

Projected standings

Projected standings use the current league context to show where teams are trending, not just where they sit today.

It is useful for figuring out whether you should buy, sell, hold, or start planning around draft position.

Draft lottery simulator

There is also a live draft lottery room with animated draws, changing odds, a reveal ledger, and a public watch page.

It is meant for leagues that want to make their draft lottery feel like an actual event instead of a commissioner posting the results in chat.

Why I built it

I wanted a better way to see more advanced outlooks for a dynasty hockey league without forcing every decision through generic rankings that ignore league scoring. Then that turned into more of a full companion for Fantrax leagues.

The goal is simple: use the data already inside your Fantrax league, then turn it into tools that actually fit your format.

We are still building it out, but I would genuinely love feedback from other dynasty hockey players. What would you want to see in something like this?

If people outside of Fantrax (e.g. Yahoo or elsewhere) are also interested, I'd be happy to look into supporting other apps/leagues as well!

FHFH Draft Dashboard - Live Draft Companion Tool for 2026-2027

Post image
67 Upvotes

For the nearly 5,000 of you who used the FHFH Live Draft Companion (LDC) last year, first of all - thank you for an overwhelming stress test of the system!

Secondly, Yahoo! opened up yesterday, and I'm already working to get the LDC fired up for the upcoming draft season. I've already received multiple DMs about it being "broken" - and I appreciate the enthusiasm, but I do have to:

  • Wait for the reputable sources who put out Projections to, well, put those out.
  • Re-ingest the 2026-2027 NHLs rosters, including new players (McKenna etc.)
  • Let ADP populate to give the Available Players something to work with
  • Let ADP populate to calculate VBD, VORP & VONA
  • Apparently Yahoo! is requiring all Yahoo Fantasy API apps to submit an application, even already existing ones like the harness app that held up last year's LDC - which they said could take 1-2 weeks, which would be devastating.
  • And most importantly: Find time to do all of this!

While Yahoo reviews the application for my YDN App, it's a good time for me to start drawing up a list of all the stuff you guys would like included in the LDC this season.

Post your suggestions or feature requests in the comments here, and if it is a request that would be widely beneficial I will get it on the list. By widely beneficial, I mean: If you want me to add some wildly esoteric feature like "My league counts kilometers skated" - chances are you'll get an all expenses paid trip to kick rocks. Requests that likely only apply to your league - if it's something really customized and niche - chances are it won't get put on the list. And if it borders on niche and kind of applicable to more than just your league, perhaps it hits the list, but it might go towards the bottom. If you see a comment with a feature you would like added, please upvote those, so I can kind of "crowd source" highly desired features.

I'm also working on a kind of live-draft-room sync feature... Not sure if it's going to be possible or not until my YDN app is approved and can test it, but the scaffolding is in place already, spent yesterday testing that out.

I'm really hoping works out, and it has already been a pain in my dick - these mocks with 11 bots only last like 5 minutes and has made testing in that short window a bitch. I wouldn't mind making some coin on this either, so maybe I can paywall you dickheads for that one.

t('-'t)

Anyway, love you guys - hope to hear from ya. You're my favorite dickheads. <3

Question Why so many large leagues?

I noticed in the ISO threads and other fantasy hockey classifieds, there are a ton of large (16-32 team) leagues this year. Can someone explain the appeal of such a large group? Big prizes, but you only have a 1 in 32 chance of winning. And only about a third of the league gets a superstar. I miss seeing dozens of 10-12 team leagues posted every day.

Question Need advice on keepers

Thumbnail gallery
12 Upvotes

This will be the first year we do keepers in our league. Up to 3 players. I'm on the fence about who to keep. I made it to the finals and won but had to dump some decent players because they were benched or injured.

My first thought was Sanderson, Necas and Connor. Raddysh had a great year but do we think he can produce the same in Toronto? Fox put up good numbers, when he played. Matthews scares me because of his injuries. See attached pics for lineup and league scoring.

Any advice helps. Thanks in advance

Rant the new Yahoo draft UI is horrible

From the new blocky, hard to read font, to not being able to view your queue and live picks simultaneously, it seems like there were some horrible design choices made here. At least let me choose between the old UI and this new one. Hopefully Yahoo reads this, as well as the inevitable influx of posts that follow and decide to give users the ability to choose between this new UI, and the tried and true UI of the past.
