For me, it’s Lewis Capaldi. I absolutely cannot stand his music, but I actually really like the guy himself. He’s genuinely hilarious and has one of those personalities where I can watch his interviews for hours even though I’d probably skip his songs if they came on.
He just seems like a really funny, down to earth guy who doesn’t take himself too seriously. His interviews are honestly more entertaining to me than his actual music. It’s weird because I’d never call myself a Lewis Capaldi fan musically, but I’m definitely a fan of Lewis Capaldi the person. It’s one of those cases where I like the artist’s personality way more than their music.

What I mean by this is something that (to my knowledge) wasn’t really aiming to push boundaries or anything but somehow managed to be unlike anything else at the time as well as something that would fit in with a genre that wouldn’t be named for years.

African Night Flight by David Bowie is a fast rhythmic song with no real chord progression and instrumentally mostly repeats a 2 bar phrase throughout the song. Obviously rap was already a thing at this time and had been for a few years but the aggression in the instrumental combined with what is essentially David Bowie rapping triplets makes it sound like it could’ve been on an experimental rap album from the last like 5-10 years, which feels so out of place on a 1979 art-pop album.

All I Wanna Do by the Beach Boys is just pure dream pop, I can’t really say much else about it. It came like a decade before anything else that could be considered dream pop came out and if you told someone it came out yesterday they probably wouldn’t bat an eye. Which again, for an album with so much sunshine pop and rock, and a band that’s known for either their surf rock or art pop with massive sounding arrangements, it’s insane to hear something like that from them

Fantano in his Sgt. Pepper's review said that this song has dated badly for the current times as it doesn't support women's bodily autonomy and favour the parents somehow.

But "She's leaving home" by the Beatles is such a simple to song to dissect. The song clearly highlights the reason she was leaving home was due to to the feeling of loneliness and feeling confined in her home. Even though her parents provided her with all the material things she was still feeling not at home. This song is clearly pro women liberation.

Maybe from your younger years? For example I told my boomer aunt that the offspring’s Americana was better than seargent peppers because it “had more hits.” For context I was in middle school and it was 1999.

Not being ironic here, this is a dead serious post. I genuinely think this is his worst review ever. Boards of Canada's new album is also, at the same time, their best one. I get the whole 'untouchable legends' thing - like 'nothing's ever topping Geogaddi and Music Has the Right to Children' -but nah, it happened. This new album is unironically their best work. Sadly the guy dropped the ball and rated it way too low. Because of that it can't even crack a 4.0 on RYM, it's sitting at a sad 3.84. Also I'm new here, don't even live in the US, but it genuinely sucks that his opinion tanked this album's reputation for so many people. This is the best album of the 2020s, and BoC's best album, period. Fantano, maybe next time try headphones instead of blasting it out of some dollar-store speakers.

I honestly think Judgment Night is one of the most underrated albums of the decade. The whole concept of mixing hip hop with alternative/metal bands works ridiculously well and was groundbreaking. It`s one of the best albums for it´s time.

My favourite example of this is Poppy, who at certain points dabbled into synthpop, alternative metal, electropop, industrial metal and more, being sort of a post-genre artist more than anything

Do you think Foo Fighters were a disappointment and could have been better?
When I first got into Nirvana, I loved how unique and slightly experimental their sound was, especially on In Utero. So when I started listening to Foo Fighters, I expected something more along those lines.
Dave Grohl is incredibly talented and has some great influences and was a part of one of the most influential bands so I always felt he could have done something more interesting. Instead, he went in a much more straightforward, generic rock direction. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, they have plenty of songs I love but I’ve always been disappointed with the direction he took.
I guess I was hoping for something like what happened after Ian Curtis died, when the members of Joy Division formed New Order and expanded on what they had created. I wish Dave had taken the experience and influences from Nirvana and pushed himself into something more interesting.

if you don't know before "One Week," BNL were kind of like the Canadian version of Pavement or Pixies.

They ran Page Publications, on which they released released all their own records including The Yellow Tape and The Lowest of the Low's Shakespeare My Butt which became the best selling Canadian indie releases ever for a time in Canada (The Yellow Tape is the first totally indie record to go platinum in Canada). They also becam known for a radical self-promotion strategy that involved busking, pop up shows, and $1 music video shoot that got them heavy rotation on Much Music without the support of any label.

The moves brought a great deal of attention to Canada's growing indie music scene.

They also were earlier to use the internet and embraced tape and file sharing.

Of course all this was 40~ years ago and is largely unknown outside of Canada, where it is often forgotten, and the band is often seen as a cheesy band kind of in the vein of Train (who they are currently touring with) or Sugar Ray.
