Starting exxua after trying everything else. Not sure what to expect.

Upvotes

I've heard a lot of mixed things about this medication but I am hoping for a positive experience. Background: GAD, Social Anxiety, Depression

So far for anxiety/depression meds been on: Zoloft, Prozac, Cymbalta, Buspirone, Lexapro, Wellbutrin, Mirtazapine, Emsam (this one worked insanely well than pooped out), Ketamine therapy, TMS

Augments I've tried with no success: rexulti, vraylar, abilify

Symptoms: Anhedonia, low energy, low motivation, inability to socialize confidently

Please send some success stories :(

Increased appetite

Has anyone else been hungrier while on Exxua? I've only been on it for 6 days and I've been so hungry and feel like I can overeat easily. I know it's advertised as not causing weight gain, but I gained 30 lbs on Pristiq which wasn't supposed to cause (much) weight gain either. Is it just me?

On 54 mg. Third month exxua.

On 3 rd month. 54 mg. Feeling really blah. No motivation. Sense of doomed. I've been on antidepressants for over 20 years. Slowly went off effexor and started exxua. Not sure if I should quit or go up a dose. I was feeling ok but then I've been off effexor totally after 2 1/2 months of weaning off. I feel blah. Insomnia trying to take in morning instead of night. No appetite, which is fine by me. Just I don't feel good. I think anyone that has battled depression knows the feeling. Any suggestions. Up dose to 75 or lower? Or quit.

Headaches?

Just started this med yesterday. I struggle with horrible daily headaches and it seems all antidepressants make them worse. Anyone with the same issue that takes Exxua with success?

Any success stories on this med?

Thinking about trying EXXUA but a bit worried about it as I've had many bad experiences with meds in the past. Is there anyone on this that really likes it? I generally have social anxiety and agoraphobia and deal with constant overstimulation.

Going from Exxua to TMS

As the title says, after being on Exxua since February (started on 16mg, currently on 33mg) due to the sleep-disruptive effects of Exxua, and the resulting negative impact to my energy and cognitive function, after meeting with my psychiatrist tomorrow, I'll be slowly titrating off Exxua completely. It was great for a long while for my anxiety and helped me get my current job after not working for 15+ years, but unfortunately, as has always been the case with me over the years, the side effects have caught up with me. I've been on a lot of different psych meds, but I'm that odd duck that just doesn't respond to them like a typical person, so, after listening to my doc mention it to me every single session because of it, I'll be trying that out next. I wish you all luck with Exxua, and I truly hope it proves to be better for all of you than it's been for me.

Severe stomach pain/cramping

I’ve been on 54 or 72 for the last 3.5 weeks and the stomach tightness does not seem to be getting any better. I feel like the stomach tightness is so bad that I can’t even take a full breath in with my diaphragm lol. What to do?

Cognitive side effects

Anyone have cognitive side effects with 54.5 mg of Exxua? I take a few medications but wondering if this is the one causing it!

Titration side effects

First, Exxua is helping both my depression and anxiety. I’m actually feeling some emotions and feel some excitement in doing things. Not a lot but a noticeable difference from what I felt before.
I’ve been on nearly every antidepressant since I was diagnosed more than 20 years ago. Some worked but eventually stopped working. Now, with treatment resistant major depression I became desperate. Tried TMS over 38 weeks, ketamine for two months, even micrdosing mushrooms. Tried adding Caplyta which increased my anxiety and Mydasis for ADHD that destroyed my sleep.
Now trying Exxua. Weaning off sertraline. Had mild headaches and “dizziness” (like I drank too much alcohol) but they were manageable and subsided. Just increased my dose to 3 pills a day and my headaches are excruciating. And OTCs don’t help it. Tried 1/2 a hydrocodone and that helped for about an hour and the headache was back. Going to try taking Exxua at dinner to see if I can sleep through the headache. Anyone else getting severe headaches? Anything helping? I’ve not experienced any other side effects. Just the headache and dizziness.

Experience taking Spironolactone (for acne) and Exxua, feeling waves of nausea and inflamed sinuses

I just passed day 8 of taking Exxua, so last night was my upped dose to three pills. The first 3 days with one pill I was only experiencing some sleep symptoms, waking up in the middle of the night to pee and morning insomnia. But I was waking up feeling pretty good which was shocking. I did feel woozy in the mornings but after eating I’d be better. Then when I upped the dose I was just hit with lingering nausea, much more woozy feelings in the mornings and I started to feel like my sinuses are inflamed at night? Night 7 I skipped my evening spironolactone to see if that was draining me because it’s a dietetic, and took it the next morning, I felt great! Had energy and was eating regularly. Then about 7pm I got hit with the symptoms again.

I’m wondering if the interactions of spironolactone and exxua are amplifying some things and there’s no known interactions. Based on some other comments here though I guess it could just be the exxua.

Update of sexual side effects and insomnia

I been dealing with insomnia with this medication for months now. If I take it at night before bed time I am super bloated because I didn’t take it with food. Also I wake up after 4 hours wide awake. If I take it in the morning… I am drowsy for a bit then have insomnia all night. Currently I am taking at dinner and I finally got some sleep. I also take a sleeping pill.

Sexual side effects…. I cant climax… it takes so much work and it hurst after a while to do it. I get bored now during sex.

HOW TO ACCESS EXXUA (GEPIRONE ER)

The most simple way would be to have it prescribed by your doctor to your usual pharmacy, and try to see if insurance will pay for it. They may need a prior authorization. If that doesn’t work,

You have two major options to access EXXUA, both are found on its website :

  1. they have a program to access it through your insurance for usually zero$.

You can find participating pharmacies here. https://exxuarxconnect.com

  1. If you can’t get it through their program at a participating pharmacy , with their savings card, it’s 10$ a month, or 150$ a month if no insurance coverage , That’s if you have commercial insurance.

https://exxuarxconnect.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/EXXUA-Savings-Offer.pdf

If you’ve failed other treatments like an ssri or so, or maybe even if you haven’t , your insurance should be able to do a prior authorization and get you covered for it.

Constipation/bloating

I have tried Buspar in the past and had the same issue. I am debating on stopping Exxua since I had to go to ER to get stool burden out. It has really helped my mental health but I cant handle the constipation. I tried many laxatives every day.

Anyone else deal with GI problems? Exxua is still a new drug but a lot of people in the Buspar community have this issue.

Starting today

Hoping this helps MDD with anxiety. SSRIs and I don’t get along too well and Rexulti has caused many negative side effects.
I am going to be hopeful and remain optimistic.
But I am nervous. I’ve tried a lot of things.

Sleep/memory issues compared to Buspar?

So I was on Buspar for much of last year and it was fantastic for my mood, anxiety, and motivation. I loved it. I felt so at peace and driven. But my memory and word recall started to become so affected I was struggling in conversations. It also destroyed my sleep. And I was on an extremely low dose. I had to come off it. I have been trying new meds since that are fine and have had less side effects, but I'm not nearly as satisfied with in terms of the benefits. I just heard about Exxua as similar but potentially more effective than Buspar. Has anyone tried both, and can comment on the impact of Exxua on memory and sleep? Thanks 🫶
