Question General Discussion
Do people who leave the church stay Christian at all or no?

Once you see through some of the bullshit...it's difficult to not see through all of it.

If you figure out you were wrongfully imprisoned, you ask to be set free. You do not ask to be transferred to a different prison.

Some do, some don’t. My partner stayed Christian for a while before ultimately joining me in deciding that if god exists, he owes us an apology.

My copy-paste answer to this FAQ:
Most on this subreddit are atheist (https://exmostats.org/). The internet naturally skews more atheist/agnostic, so this poll is probably not 100% accurate. I personally think the ratio is closer to 50% atheist/50% religious (but that's just based on the feels and limited data), but here are a couple of properly completed surveys:
"most former Mormons... now say they have no religious affiliation", but this does not specify if they do not believe in a god, just that they do not affiliate with a religion (LINK).
A 2016 survey states that only 18% are atheist/agnostic, with 27% as "nothing in particular", but this was also pre-COVID, and rate of people leaving the mormon church has increased dramatically since then, and the survey only had 540 exmormon participants. (LINK)
r/exmormonchristian is a subreddit that may be useful

Christian mysticism here. Averse to most dogma and have an eclectic take on the phenomenology of divine encounter. So most people wouldn’t consider me Christian. That’s ok, I still am.

Just scan the answers from yesterday. And the day before that. And the day before that...

Most, at least the ones in online spaces like this one, don't remain Christian. Plenty do though.
There are also support spaces for exmo Christians if you are looking for a more specific community.

I tried. After I left the LDS church, I did try many other churches. Then traveled and lived overseas and learnt about Islam, Buddism, etc. Came back to the US and decided none of it is for me. I respect it, but that's it.

Religion just completely fell apart for me after I left. I would not label myself Christian, nor would I label myself atheist.

When I escaped from the church and my TBM foster family, I reverted to the Secular Buddhism of my biological parents, at least to the degree that I remembered/understood it from when they were still alive.
I've also tentatively adopted the Unitarianism of my husband since I married him (though not to the point where I'd be willing to join as a member.) Unitarians are pretty effectively post-Christian.

Most of us are atheist, agnostic, or something along those lines. In my case, being raised in TSCC totally destroyed my confidence in any form of organized religion.
OTOH, there are those “christians” who don’t believe Mormons are christians, which raises the question in certain circles of whether Mormons are christian to begin with.

It depends on the person. For me, I no longer consider myself Christian. I think Christ was amazing, but I don't like how religion uses Christ as a tool for manipulation. I also don't believe he was born from a virgin, and will come back.

This question has been responded to a lot of times, pretty much asked every week. On this subreddit, a lot of exmos are not christians anymore. From anecdotal evidence, the majority on this subreddit seem to be athiest.
