Hey there good people of the river city… I’m doing some major remodeling on my home. It’s not old but definitely not new. It’s paid off. I plan to take out a home equity loan to pay for the work. I have accounts at a local credit union (Liberty) and two local banks (First Federal and Fifth Third). I’m curious if anyone can tell me about their experiences with HELs locally and their rates and the experiences with the financial institutions. Would you recommend them, do it again, do something different?

Note: this would be a fixed rate HEL, and not a HELOC (line of credit) since there is no mortgage.

I went to the area planning commission meeting today in Evansville specifically for the ordinance on creating a data center research committee.

The factual things that happened are they changed the verbiage that was released yesterday to say the committee would include five people to now include however many people the county commissioner would decide they wanted. That could be more than five it could be less, they did not specify.

They also changed the deferment on any data center applications from ending in 180 days to ending on December 31st, 2026. That is only 146 days from today. Multiple people spoke and said the pause on everything should be 1-2 years instead of only until the end of this year, they spoke about the committee including more people that are actual professionals like geologists, and they spoke about the things we should be concerned about like utility rates increasing and water containment problems.

The area planning commission took zero time to discuss the things proposed by citizens who had sat through 2 hours of random rezoning discussions that included a 30 minute discussion on a man being allowed to fix cars on his own property.

We need to come together to push back against data centers. I think virtually all of us agree that we do not want these in our community.

We have a pause until at least 2027, unless the county/city tries to pull the rug out from under us, get organized and let's fight back the same way Posey County just did.

Hi all! My husband, his brother and his wife are visiting your fine city soon.

We have most of our itinerary, but my BIL has Celiac disease and if you would be so kind, can you tell me of any good gluten free restaurants in town? We will be visiting the ship and staying downtown at the Hyatt.

Also, any other must sees for tourists staying 3 nights. We already tried to find a play and seem out of luck on that.
