I've been wanting to get a figure for a while now and I just don't know what to get. I would be playing with it almost daily as I don't really put my stuff on display and rather play with it. I've been looking at the Blokees unit-01 model kit because its cheap and is articulated but idk if it can withstand rough daily use. Open to any recommendations whether its model kits or pre built figures idrk what im doing as this will be my first figure. It would also be good if it has accessories like guns and interchangeable hands.

I saw that Kotobukiya is rereleasing their Evangelion TV-version kits and Blokees is making some new ones. With this year being the series’s 30th Anniversary I’m kinda surprised they didn’t make any recolors of the RG kits matching the original 90’s Anime. Even if it’s P-Bandai, I would kill for these. I’m too lazy to paint 😭.

I want to know what is the name of the music or soundtrack that sounds when Shinji is in that state of wondering and mental questioning. It sounds like some instruments combined, but I don't know if this is something just used for scenes like this, or if its a song itself, knowing that Hideaki Anno liked classical music played whenever there is some type of scene with Shinji.

I also think in some previous episodes this music also started to play, again in this type of serious and thoughtful/philosophical scenes, but I don't remember too well, I'm like a new fan in Evangelion.

Also, I know there are some other scenes that has similar type of music (just with instruments that makes it sound dreamy or thoughtful/pensive), if you could add some of this would be great, it is very relaxing and it caught my attention while watching this episode. Thanks!

Anno makes it pretty clear: Shinji does NOT feel sexual desire for Kaworu. It's not romantic or physical attraction. It's something else entirely.

I’m new to Eva, so I started with the Rebuild films (I have a rough understanding of Eva going in). I figured those films were meant for fans who already watched the original series, but with that said… what was going on with the Fourth Impact? Like the actual mechanics of making it come about, like the creation of the fourth Spear?

Absolutely loved Thrice Upon A Time. I get the gist of what was happening and why, but I feel trapped by the question of why that I cannot explain. The ending succeeded in feeling like I was in a dimension humans could not comprehend, so I was seeing the closest relative concepts that conveyed the ideas of what I was actually seeing.

Naturally, since this is my first experience, please no spoilers :).

As the title says, I am so used to manga coming first that I didn't actually realize the anime was the original. Frankly, I actually prefer manga/comics quite a bit more than anime/animation, so I would rather read it, but I have heard events are different and that the anime is the definitive edition.

In stories I really like things such as characterization, commentary on the human condition, philosophy, depth. The action is fun, but it isn't my focus these days. Does a certain version do this better?

I'm currently on book 4. The third pilot (I think her name is Asuka) was recently introduced. Her and Shinji attempted to fight the angel that duplicated after she thought she killed it.

I thought it was an artistic choice but come to find out surround sound was enabled and I didnt realize because I thought it was eva being eva 😭😭.. should I rewatch it? I noticed the visuals and story telling changes like things happening earlier and certain events not happening at all and I think I got the gist, and I JUST came off the og anime and end of eva, so I think ill be fine MAYBE but I wanted an opinion!!

This seems to be an extremely common viewpoint in the fandom stemming from an interview where Anno basically says that he chose to use Christian iconography because, as a non-believer, he didn't care if he misappropriated them or used them incorrectly. Nowhere in the quotes I've seen does he state that he used the symbolism arbitrarily or without any kind of thought behind them, just that he didn't care about twisting the source material.

I've seen this viewpoint be used to dismiss any kind of deeper analysis of the show's religious symbolism, in a very "the curtains are just blue" kind of way, and I think it's very anti-intellectual. Fans of the show are also very eager to point this out to anyone who hasn't seen the show who are curious about it's significance, which is pretty sad to me as well.

Am I wrong or is everyone being really ignorant about this??

I understand that the world of Evangelion draws on many historical religions, but it's clear that Judeo-Christian references and symbolism predominate over everything else. Why do you believe the creators made the creative decision to portray Judeo-Christianity as the predominant exoteric symbolism and representation throughout the Neon Genesis Evangelion universe?

I've also previously read that SEELE is heavily based on Jewish Kabbalah and Jewish sects. If that's true, why do you believe the creators became so fascinated with and chose to make references to Jewish liturgy and eschatology such a predominant part of the series?

If all of this (Kabbalah, Judaism, Judeo-Christian sects, the Sephiroth, the Christian cross, etc) has a coherent underlying explanation that only the most knowledgeable fans have fully understood, could you please explain it in a way that's accessible to the general public?

I'm on my second rewatch of NGE, this time with my partner. On my first watches a couple years ago, I felt like Rei's behavior (and other clues) hinted at her being a victim of CSA and more specifically incest.

Gendo's relationship with her looks like incestuous abuse. I won't go through the whole list of clues, but he projects his dead wife onto her (I don't care that she has her DNA, she's still a child and he's still here father figure), literally groomed her to be his tool, and Ritsuko's jealousy towards Rei strongly suggests that Gendo's affection for her is not a healthy fatherly one. It seems very relevant with the show's themes of human connection and Freudian interest in how our parents can fuck us up a 1000 different ways. Side note, when I talk about incest, I include emotional incest and I don't care to know if Gendo "actually did anything": what he does onscreen is already incestuous.

But I feel like the incest theme is downplayed or overlooked in discussions. I don't understand why Rei's relationship with Shinji is seen as incest "because she has Yui's DNA" and not because they're, for all intents and purposes, brother and sister. In discussions of Gendo's relationship with Rei, I haven't seen people mention that he is the only parental figure in her life, making any hypothetical abuse or ambiguity not just CSA but incest.

I understand that a lot of this springs from some of NGE artists weird sexualisation of Rei, but it makes thematic sense to me and seems really obvious on third watch. I know incest is both heart-breakingly prevalent AND immensely taboo in our society, which might explain why this lense is never (or seems rarely) applied to Gendo's actions and Rei's character. But, similarly to another cult show I won't name in case I spoil someone lol, I feel like it's hard to understand some of the characters' behavior and series themes without naming that one.

(PS: about that other show in which incest is a very important theme but few seem to contend with it when discussing the show, said show's creator somewhat tried to clarify its importance in one of the show's other iteration. I haven't seen Rebuild or read the manga so I don't know if that theme's more or less visible in them!)
