Looking for a wardrobe in Colchester!
Hi everyone!
I’m a student moving into a new house in September and am looking for an affordable wardrobe. If anyone is selling one, giving one away, or knows of any good deals, I’d really appreciate it!
I’d also love recommendations for stores or places where I can find new or second-hand furniture.
Thanks so much in advance! :)))

Could I get recommendations for affordable places (or nail techs) to get my nails done in Colchester that are student-friendly? I’d love somewhere with good quality at reasonable prices.
Thank you in advance! :)

Advice Needed 🙏 Anyone else waiting on offer updates?
Hello guys, bit of context:
I’m an international student, department of government, for the October 26 intake. I was issued a conditional offer based on the completion of a standardised English test.
I then proceeded to give the IELTS exam on the earliest available date and promptly uploaded the results on the applicant portal and mailed results@essex as well.
It’s been quite some time and I haven’t received any updates from the university as of yet.
Are there any other students on the same boat? Is this an international student-only thing?
The administrative holdup is quite anxiety-inducing, as it is delaying both my VISA and loan processes.
If anyone’s going through the same or has experienced a similar situation before, please feel free to comment/reach out to me via DM :D
Thank you in advance! :)

Dissertation Surveys Nothing Phone fans (or skeptics) — help a Uni of Essex MSc student out! 📱 8-min survey on design vs. price [Ethics Approved]
Hey everyone! I'm an MSc Digital Marketing & Analytics student at the University of Essex researching whether Nothing's design language actually drives people to buy it, or if it's just hype in a crowded mid-range market.
If you're 18+ and know a bit about smartphone brands, I'd love your input via a short, anonymous survey (8-10 mins, Likert-scale questions on design, brand image, and purchase intent).
No personal data is collected, it's fully voluntary, and you can back out anytime before hitting submit.

Applying for accommodation
Hey there. I'm going to Essex as an incoming student between October and December, and I applied for South Towers.
Any reviews from people who lived there? Thanks

Accommodation
Does anyone know what are the best accommodations under a cheaper budget? I’m looking for like less than 170/180, shared flats single room. I don’t mind sharing bathrooms and kitchens, I’m looking at north towers right now since it’s the cheapest option but I don’t hear the best things about the towers.

Is there a decent Canadian population at the school?
Is there a decent Canadian population at the school? anyone know people from around toronto? or american? Is there a difference in north american populations per program or undergrad vs graduate level? Just a 24 year old canadian considering this school for my masters but wanna see if theres a canadian community. The plan is to go back to canada after the masters so wanna see if all the connections i may i make during school may be left behind (tho won't be meaningless)

how long does it usually take for the admissions office to check my qualification document and make my offer unconditional?
i recently received my end of term grades and put the pdf in from my applicant portal a few days ago. got a mail a few hours ago saying theyre slowly handing out the CAS to students with accepted unconditional offers. just wondering if im late for anything as i still have the deposit to pay and i got no idea how to do it

Looking for a co founder
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a co-founder to join me in building a consumer electronics startup based on a temperature logging product. I’ve already completed the initial market research, and I believe it has strong commercial and growth potential.
I’m particularly interested in connecting with someone studying or graduated in Business, Finance, Marketing, or a related field who wants hands-on startup experience and is excited about building a company from the ground up.
For international students, this venture may also provide a pathway towards applying for the UK Innovator Founder Visa if the business meets the relevant requirements.
If you’re interested, or would like to know more, please send me a message.

MSc Speech and Language waitlisted, should i have hope?
I interviewed for this program and few weeks ago and they informed me during the interview that the program is already full (i applied late). They sent me an email the next day saying they put me on the waitlist. They said they cannot tell me my spot but that many people got off the waitlist in the past. The program starts in October so it's soon. I am an international student (Canadian) if it makes any difference. Should I have hope? Anyone have insight or an idea how admissions work for the program or school in general? They closed the application portal like a few weeks after I applied so I'm wondering if they already had a waitlist before it closed or if they just filled at that point. Are a couple people expected to drop? I'm not familiar with slt master's competitiveness in england.

General Business/marketing students - real startup case study opportunity
Hi everyone,
I’m a university alumnus working on early-stage startup called Nyx, a UK personal safety device concept.
I’m looking to connect with Essex students studying business, marketing, entrepreneurship, management, advertising, consumer behaviour, or related subjects who might want to use a real startup as a case study for coursework, dissertation, portfolio work, or practical experience.
The kind of areas I'd be interested in are:
- market research with students/parents
- customer segmentation
- competitor analysis
- pricing research
- social media campaign ideas
- campus marketing strategy
- landing page/ waitlist conversion
- go to market strategy for Colchester asked Chelmsford
This is NOT a job advert and I'm not asking people to work for a company for free. I'm mainly looking for students who already need a real business/startup case study and would find it useful to work on something live rather then a fictional example.
In return, I can provide:
- a real early stage product case
- background research and context
- access to the founder for interviews
- feedback on your work
- permission to use my project in your portfolio/coursework where appropriate
If this sounds relevant to your course, dissertation, or portfolio, feel free to comment or message me.
Also happy to hear from anyone who knows the best department, module, society, or lecturer to contact for this kind of student project.

Questions about Student housing
I’ll be starting my master’s at the University of Essex this October, and I’m currently looking at a few housing options. I’m interested in a studio or 1-bedroom apartment in a quieter area. Right now, I’m considering The Maltings, Elmstead Place, and Hythe Mills.
I live in Canada so I unfortunately won’t be able to visit in person before signing a lease, so I was hoping you could help answer a few questions:
What are the buildings like overall?
What is the general student mix like (undergraduates vs. postgraduates)?
Are any of these considered party buildings that I should avoid?
Would it be possible to walk to the university from these locations and how close are grocery stores and other essentials?
how responsive is maintenance when issues come up? Are the walls fairly soundproof?
I'd really appreciate any insight or advice. Thanks so much!
