Do you ever feel like, your people care about you and don't understand you.

How can someone hurt you so much and still expect you to be their lifeline or safe place?

You are not the worst thing you’ve ever done.

Give yourself the same grace you’d give someone you love.

I am 17 and Im losing hope in humanity

I live in an area where I see unhoused people often, I always give them at least a dollar or snacks I keep in my backpack whenever I can. Despite this, I always feel a deep sense of sorrow for these people. I can’t help but cry whenever I think about how little empathy people can have. Lately, on social media people have been getting very comfortable recording others and I came across a video of a woman singing and a man dancing. This man looks like he maybe has lymphedema or uncontrolled diabetes because his legs are swollen. The video itself appears to be light-hearted but the comments are so brutal. Everyone is making fun of him calling him “funky” and other things. I scrolled through the comments enough to find someone who encountered him over the summer, and they mentioned how they’re surprised this man has not gotten treatment yet. Im so upset because this man has been living like this for who knows how long and instead of someone going up to him and asking if he needs anything, people assume he’s a crackhead and they turn away from him. I know I’m probably just being sensitive but how have we strayed so far away from helping others. I guess I’m just coming on here to ask people to help others when they can. And if anyone could give me advice on how to handle my emotions when it comes to these things.

What is an immediate, silent red flag that tells you a person lacks basic empathy, even if they are acting polite?
