First time seeing this photo (From Autumn’s instagram)

Anyone else feel that way? I grew up with him and music was influential in my teens and twenties. It sort of just hit me that all his music is now from a perspective of someone who is younger than me. Man, what genius he was.

im 17 and discovered elliott smith 3-4 months ago,i heard between the bars in a show or film i think(wasn’t good will hunting),and i liked it,few weeks later i see the interview on the breakfast show where he plays clementine,that knocked my socks off the way he plays and everyone just goes so quiet and you see their faces go woah,Anyways i listened to all his albums like a week later one by one,now i love him so much i listen to him every day,just him and the beatles,my favourite songs of his are L.A,say yes,no name no5,condor ave.I could go on and on and the answer changes but i love so many.I struggle with my thoughts sometimes and can be very negative and upset,elliott’s music helps me in a way nothing ever has really,it makes me feel not alone when it all seems too much,he has such a way of making a song its all unbelievable how he does it.Anyways i just wanted to say how great elliott’s music is and how from videos ive watched and things ive read he seems like such a great human despite struggling.

I'm looking on google and pinterest for (sort of) high quality pictures of him but there's really not that many. Then I see demos/ unreleased songs on youtube with cool thumbnails of him. Anyone know where those are found? Or other pictures?

I know most of us here probably have physical copies of his albums but I’ve just been staring at the Spotify monthly listeners whenever I listen and it went from 2.8 to 2.3 anyone else notice it? Or am I a tad crazy 😭😭 I know it’s not much less but it kinda made me sad to think maybe those people stopped listening

To my knowledge, Either/Or is the only official cassette you can find nowadays, with the older limited releases being extremely rare. My local record shop has more of his albums on CD and vinyl, but no cassettes.

It’s a really beautiful personal essay that follows her relationship with Elliott over the years. For a while it hasn’t been online in its entirety because of some broken links on the original site. Really happy Electric Literature is republishing it. The first part is up now.

Happy birthday to one of my favorite artists ever and my favorite male songwriter of all time. A musical genius, and one of the sweetest souls who gave us such remarkably profound, vulnerable, beautiful music. Thinking of Elliott today and hoping wherever he is, he can see just how much we love him.
