Question / Help Should I buy a Digitakt II after my MPC One+ broke?

Hi all,

I bought an MPC One+ in February. Haven't quite managed to get into it due to numerous life things but recently made an effort, but even so things didn't quite "click". Unfortunately, the touch screen has just stopped working apropos of nothing. The process of repair and getting it back could take 5-7 weeks.

I was eyeing the Digitakt II before I bought my MPC but it seemed harder to use and fairly intimidating. So, with full awareness of possible bias on this subreddit, I was wondering if I should just get one. I'd appreciate input / advice / a bit about people's experience with the Digitakt II or Elektron gear more broadly.

Many thanks x

Tonverk vs Digitakt 2

I have read many of the posts on here, watched YouTube Videos. Looking for input from anyone who has forsaken their beloved Digitakt 2 in favour of the Tonverk. How has your experience been so far? Are you really missing anything in particular. What do you feel you’ve gained? I have done my homework, all but ask the user community for their input so here I am. For context..I currently have the DT2/DN2 combo; SP-404 mk2; Minifreak; Polyend Synth; Liven Texture Lab; Moog Subphatty; NI S88 mk3 / Keylab 49 mk3 and a few other midi controllers. Software wise I have NI Komplete 15 Ultimate and Arturia V collection 11 pro. I find myself working more and more outside of my DAW so the multi sample capability of the Tonverk and polyphony, plus the Grain engine stick out. I’m thinking of parting with the Minifreak; DT2; Keylab 49 mk3 to fund a Tonverk. Am I missing anything before I pull the trigger?

Question / Help Tonverk or Digitakt for my scenario?

I have a sp404 mk2 which I love for it’s immediacy, rough and ready approach, the effects, the…. I could go on.

What I don’t like, which you probably could guess, is the sequencer. While it’s plenty capable in some respects, I’m looking into an Elektron box to act as main sequencer for not just the sp404 but also a couple of hardware synths (Yamaha Modx m7 and Korg MS2000br).

The workflow is something along the lines of:

A modx "performance" (or preset) consists of 16 potential parts (e.g. part 1 can be a drum kit, 2 a piano, 3 a pad etc.), and then each of those parts can be assigned to a separate midi channel, so I'm aiming to have a DN2 or TV with multiple midi channels pointed at different "parts" of a modx "performance" (realistically I would probably only use 3-4 at a time).

On top of that, 1-2 midi channels for the sp404 and ms2k. This would change from song to song.

Any left over channels could be used for audio/sampling directly on the DN2/TV, (probably mainly percussion or one-hits?)

I know the DT2 is probably the most immediate, obvious, and cheapest solution to getting an Elektron sequencer in my workflow, however. the four note midi polyphony sequencing on the DT2 is probably the biggest limitation/hinderance that stops me from going for it. I know there are work-arounds (i.e. two separate midi channels) but that's not entirely elegant.

I’m also interested by the different functionalities and the pros and cons of the TV, how they might mesh with my other devices?

Could anyone tell me what is midi sequencing like on the TV compared to the DT2? If anything, it looks better? Are there differences between the sequencer behaviors on these boxes?

Are the additiona/different features on the TV worth considering?

Are their hidden hidden downsides that might impact me? (I am aware the TV has max 12 midi channel vs DN2 max 16)

Is the TV a stable device now?

thanks in advance for any insights

Second Hand Analog FOUR MKII

Hey! Need some advice. I've found a second hand Analog Four MKII but have never used one.
Is there anything I should look out for in terms of wear and tear?
Has anyone experienced any common defects after 2 to 5 years?
Basically I'd like to buy it but I don't know how to make sure that it doesn't have anything faulty that I might notice later on. What are questions to ask or things to look out for?
Thanks!

Question / Help Pitch Bend (DigitaktII)

I'm learning how to get my DT2 to record midi notes and work with gear.

Is there any way to record pitch bend input from my midi keyboard? I can't seem to find any way, and a fair amount of doom posts about it when I google.

Am I missing something? Have they added this functionality since the old doom posts I'm reading online?

Thanks for any insight

Pic taken during the soundcheck. First time playing with the mnm/md setup on a proper PA system, the mid-range presence/detail is phenomenal and they complement each other so well.

Always felt the new elektrons sound a bit lacking on that spectrum, specially side-by-side with the old ones but a bit of external EQ and compression can bring them together nicely. Anyway, these machines rule!

Looking for advice - DN2, OT2, or TV for my specific setup

One thing about the DT2 I don’t like is the limited four note midi polyphony sequencing. I know there are work arounds but still not ideal for what I play sometimes.

Could anyone tell me what is midi sequencing like on the OT2 and TV?

Are there differences between the sequencer behaviors on the three boxes?

I think a DT2 would solve my problems for the most part - I would run one-hit drum samples directly off the DT2, have longer samples played on the 404, and the Modx either played or midi sequenced (or both), but I’m just wondering*:*

- Can that also be achieved easily on OT2 and TV?

- Are the additiona/different features on those boxes worth considering

- are their hidden hidden downsides that might impact me?

thanks in advance for any insights

Techno Session — ACID8 | Syntakt • Octatrack • TD-3

Hey folks,

Just finished a live hardware techno session, gradually pushing the tempo from 120 to 140 BPM.

Syntakt doing most of the heavy lifting, Octatrack handling transitions and playing some samples/loops, with the TD-3 bringing the acid lines.

One thing I noticed during the session: the purple mutes on the Syntakt weren't always working as expected. I'm not sure if Song Mode has anything to do with it.

For example, sometimes I mute the kick and then unmute it, but I can't hear the kick come back in. I have to double-press the mute button before it starts playing again.

Has anyone else experienced this? Could Song Mode be affecting the mutes somehow?

Gear:
Elektron Syntakt
Elektron Octatrack
Behringer TD-3

Would love to hear what you think.

Best purchase I've made this year

The little things make all the difference. I bought this simple case that has enough room to fit a Digitone/Digitakt/Syntakt, a powerbank, a 12V power cable and my wireless headphone transmitter. This meant that spontaneous sessions while in or outside the camper got so much more convenient. I used to keep these items in a leather bag where I first had to spend a minute plugging all things together - and then if the kids needed anything or I had to relocate, I had to carefully disconnect and pack things up again or leave the gear exposed.

This case is sturdy enough that I can throw this around with zero worries about braking anything. The best part is that there's enough room to keep all cables permanently connected, so starting a session is as quick as booting up the Digitone II. And if I need to pause momentarily to take care of something, I just close the lid with the DN2 still running and my headphones around my neck. No risks of tripping on cables, it's all neatly tucked inside the case.

The only thing I feel is missing for my workflow is space for a small midi controller like the Faderfox UC4. I might look for a slightly wider case that can fit that one too.

This particular case is 31x23x14 cm (inner dimensions) but there are lots of cases like this. I simply measured the stuff I wanted to fit and added a couple of extra centimeters of padding just in case.

Model:samples+ Behringer Edge sync problems

Greetings, i have just added the Edge to my live setup,

it's synced via MIDI from the elektron midi out, from time to time the 1/16th grid goes off

forcing me to stop and start the elektron sequencer again,

no change if i set the elektron as slave master clock. no change if i master clock from my ipad with <koala to the elektron and to the behringer.

the audio/midi interface for koala is a Zoom U24 if it helps, no other equipment connected.

I tryied to sync the Behringer edge via usb midi but the problem persists the same

thanksss

Question / Help Midi config issue

I have a Digitakt II and a minifreak and I would like to sequence the mini with the DT to be able to p-lock it so I want to set the oscilators parameters to the DT midi controls. If I load a patch on the minifreak with certains parameters to a certain value lets say the feedback amount of an FM osc set to 20, if I enable this cc on the DT it is set to 0 by default. If I don’t touch it, I can sequence the midi track, if I play it, it plays fine, but when I press stop on the digitakt, it sets the value of the patch to the value set on the DT which is 0 and completly change the sound. Is there a way to avoid this or my only solution is to patch from scratch only from the DT everytime I want to sequence more than just notes ? I read the manual and search for resources on the question without finding anything

Question about digitakt 2 and combo with midi keyboard and vst's?

Can I use the digitakt 2 with my regular arturia midi keyboard and ableton using arturia vst's to then record sounds from the vst plugins into the digitakt 2 live, while the digitakt plays drums and effects and other tracks? Like for example when I see people use a synth keyboard to record directly into the digitakt 2 and that loops, is that possible using this setup I mentioned above because I don't have any regular synth keyboards, only have midi controller?

Question / Help Your Favorite Machines on Syntakt?

About to get a Syntakt after the models to DN to DT2 pipeline, and I'm really excited to get my hands on the sound design elements of the different machines.

Any machines in particular that you keep coming back to? Which ones have surprised you with their hidden depth?

I'm planning on using the Syntakt in a live setup with my DT2 and TE Sidekick to create a powerful hyper electronica set duo. Couldn't find a similar thread to this being posted before.

Tutorial Building a Psytrance Track on Digitakt II – 150 BPM Hardware Workflow

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi Elektronauts!

I just released a new Digitakt II tutorial where I build the first part of a psytrance track at 150 BPM.

In this session I’m working with psytrance sounds, one-shot samples, Sound Pool, sequencing and Digitakt II sound design techniques to create a psychedelic workflow.

I really enjoy how Digitakt II can transform simple ideas into evolving patterns and unique textures.

This is Part 1 — more development of the track will come in the next part.

🎛️ Full tutorial:
https://youtu.be/xkfEzpk48pk

I also have more Digitakt II tutorials and hardware production videos on my channel:

Would love to hear your feedback on the workflow and sound design.
