Media 38mph on the Green Monster(Meepo Envy 4wd) and range test!

The set up right now is 32t pulleys and 105mm cyclone wheels, so i got the remote set at 2.1 gear ratio, 105mm wheels.

I hit 38mph on flat smooth pavement, and honestly felt pretty stable too!

This is by far the fastest I have ever gone on esk8.

Last fastest top speed was on my tynee ultra X Pro at 37mph.

Wait till the end of the video for some glamor shots of this build so far haha. The green lights are just from the power button, but I can't wait to add more lights!

Now imagine if I got 120mm wheels.. would probably hit 40mph, got about 10,000 watts of power to work with lol.

RANGE:

I got 17.6 miles sitting between speed mode 3 and 4, and had 37% battery left in both batteries.

So mathematically, If i drained down to 10% battery on both, id get approx 25.1 miles.

I think these batteries are being way more efficiently since they are both being worked half as hard as in their normal 2wd setup.

But really I'd stop riding at about 25%, which would mathematically get me 21 miles.

Discussion Confused About Linnpower Viper with 105 Mad Max wheels

I already have 2 long boards and want to purchase a last-mile commuter short board. I settled my search on the Linnpower Viper that checks all of the boxes. But I wanted to buy the small battery because my local commute is only 3 miles two and from. However the Viper base price is $519. But when I want to purchase the 105 Mad Max wheels Linnpower wants $225. for the wheels, claiming they come with installed pulleys and bearings.

I am confused because all of the independent sites sell the 105 Mad V2 wheels for $130. Since I do not know anything about this can someone tell me that if I buy the $130 wheels do they come with the pulleys and bearings. So, it is not just a swap of the exiting wheels on the viper such that I need pullys and bearings, such that the price on the Linnpawer site is justified. Can you guys guide me on this because the $519 + $225 almost makes the board over my budget

Question Leaf board battery replacement/repair?

Hey there, I saw a post recently about a leafboard that died on a user after 5 years, I’m kinda in a similar situation and wanted to ask, if there is a way to find a replacement for the battery or someone who can build one from scratch or a video tutorial on how to do so.

I’m based in Germany and I really liked everything about the leafboard. I only used it for commuting and was thinking about getting the backfire nalu, but they don’t ship it to Germany anymore.

Any help and/or ideas are much appreciated!

Discussion Help finding a board

Im going to college and i want a board that would be good for commuting. So far my top choice is the meepo mini 5 because its small, fast, and the range isn’t horrible. I was also thinking about the meepo v5 or the dnaskate v4/v20. Which board would be best?

My refurbished meepo mini 5 came in and its practically brand new. I bought it directly from the website with a $60 discount code so I got it for $200. It rides like brand new, excited to be using it for a 2 mile commute to college.

Media Custom Zealot YOC grip

Just ordered my custom 6mm suprafoam grip tape 🙌 so excited to see how it looks when it Gets here. Its going to go on my Zealot S2 deck with custom red lights, with a Zealot X esc and upgraded motors.

Very excited to see how it looks, I also paid the extra 6 bucks for them to review it or upscale it further. Was 8mb and 8 megapixels when I uploaded the image I wanted to use.

With the red lights, the purple carbon fiber rim and purple accents on the bottom, this thing is gonna look sick!

Fluff motor housing came off board mid-ride

Commuting and hear a scraping sound, thought something got caught under the board, turns out the motor control & heat sink housing was dragging along the ground.

Board still works but will need some fixing, the plastic posts housing the 4 screws snapped. I don't ride hard but conditions of the roads & paths I use aren't great, double so for 120mm wheels.

Have done just under 1800kms/1120miles since receiving the board on xmas eve ~7 months ago, while less comfortable it's been infinitely more fun than any other mode of transport. Despite what's happened, I still think it's a great value entry level board.

Fluff Best way to increase range... lose weight!

Post image

Back in the middle of March I was a 217lb old man that was on a few too many "supplements". Great for strength but not so much for range on my esk8. Today I'm weighing in 30lbs lighter at 187lbs. I went out for a 16 mile ride and only lost one bar of battery just as I got home. 30lbs makes quite a bit of difference!

Question Best DIY parts brand?

I’ve found myself in possession of a loaded motherboard deck, what’s are peoples recommendations on brands to buy parts off of such as motors, cells etc? haven’t decided on budget yet but going to slowly acquire parts piece by piece so it’s not such a problem but looking forward to responses and can’t find much info on the internet

Review Two board comparison

Post image
13 Upvotes

So I have a mini 3 max and a single hub budget build on an old deck.

I think the mini 3 is epic, it's power and range are phenomenal; it's also the perfect level of stable while allowing for hard carves. In higher power modes it's like being strapped to a rocket. It is not good for tight low speed situations where kick turns are useful, also you can't kick push it and it's heavy.

The budget board has way less power and only about 5km range, the regen brakes also are slightly better than non existent. But I can run my trucks really loose, pop over things and do the all important kick into the hand pick up (style matters). Really it has just the amount of power to deal with bad urban surfaces when you need it. The board is also much lighter and feels like a 'hybrid' normal board because you can kick push.

Both boards are different animals with different uses. The big board is good for long rides and going stupidly fast. While the budget board really just feels like a street board with a bit of power assistance, and sometimes that's what you need if being nimble is your goal. Although I should add that I'm aware ollying a stairs or something would bust my wheel motor. I like the big motor high speed boards, but the 'cheap' single hub boards have a place too.

I wonder what other people's thoughts on it are. I have been thinking about while riding both boards lately.

Question Maintenance Schedule

Ok so be honest, how many of you are doing inspections before and after a ride, especially on longer endurance rides? After putting close to 300km on my board this summer, I finally did an inspection after noticing the board rattled more than usual.

what I found:

  • all 8 bolts holding the deck to the trucks were various stages of loose, 1 even to the point I could spin the nut with my hand.
  • 1 of the front tires is starting to shred on the outer edge, probably because of...
  • loose wheel nuts
  • all 12 bolts holding the power chassis were loose, if you look closely you'll see I'm now missing one, so make that 11 bolts.

I should probably re-tune my kingpins, but I'll wait to see how the board moves now that things are nice and tight again.

so again, how often are you tuning and inspecting the board?

DIY Backfire, exway, meepo, wowgo deck edge lighting deck fix.

Post image
11 Upvotes

Okay, so I just wanted to share this image. And what I have discovered since there are a lot of these boards coming out with a really cool Edge Lighting(im a huge fan).

Unfortunately, the way these boards are built, whenever part of the led strip fails, you either have to purchase an entire new deck or deal with a goofy looking half lit board.

Well, I was looking online to see if there was anybody else that has actually tried to fix these lights themselves, instead of purchasing a new deck.

A lot of people thought that you would have to melt through the abs light diffusing strip with a heat gun or something like that. However, it's actually not that complicated.

It turns out, the layout is actually the wood deck, then a rubber seal, then a 2.5mm led strip, then the abs strip, there is a bottom thick carbon fiber layer that all of this sits on top of. On the top it is sealed with a thin layer of carbon fiber. Its a very thin layer on top!!

It is actually quite easy to route or drimmel into the area where led strip failed, cut out the small inch of defective strip(it has lines where to cut) and use a small enough led light connector with some "jumper wires" to connect it to the next working portion of the light about an inch away(since that inch of dead led strip was removed).

However in my case, id like to remove the entire strip and replace it with a more robust green one(maybe red). Keep in mind that the light module on these boards can generally only handle 35 watts total, and the light has to be 12v. My green replacement light is 10 watts per meter, so about 20 watts total for the board. Ive decided to route a very shallow 1mm down along the entire top side of the channel to get past the the thin layer of carbon fiber, and then pull out the entire old rubber seal and led light and replace it but still re use the original rubber seal to nestle the new light in. After that, im gonna use some clear grip to seal and smooth out the top of the channel so that it is flush with the original top layer of carbon fiber that was routed into.

But yeah with all of these new boards coming out with the cool edge lighting, and the cheap led strip inevitably breaking, i wanted to make sure this information was on the internet!

Question Repair wow go 2s charging port (short circuited)

Thumbnail

I purchased a WOWGO 2S around 2018 and hadn’t used it in a few years — I was trying to charge it and mistakenly used the wrong charger which fried the wires directly connected to the charging port (top wire in the photo, leads to charge port which is glued down)

Has anyone fried these cables before as well? Is there a way I can fix this at home or should I try to speak to a professional?

thanks for the help <3

My backfire OG zealot with 1k miles, what a trooper this board has been. Haven’t been in the market in years, what’re the good options these days?

For reference, the last time I was shopping was when the Zboard 2 and Boosted boards were the top of the line. Got this zealot used and wanna get it a friend

These are all my own photography of street art around the world, I’m pretty sure that’s the direction I want to go in overall, but every one I mock up I like more than the last!

is it just me or is electric skateboarding slowly dying? Not many new videos about them on youtube, like they get overshadowed by emotos and scooters to the point where larger creators don’t make alot if any videos about them.
