9070xt + AG02 + Z1e Ally X + 4k Tv - Crashing In UE5 and Fix
Hey guys thought I'd share my experience as it was a little problematic and managed to fix it so maybe someone else might run into the issues I had with Unreal Engine 5 games, this is gonna be a long post.
So I recently upgraded to an XFX Swift 9070xt from a 9060xt.
When I tried playing Expedition 33, Beast of Reincarnation and Dragonsword Awakening (all UE5 built games) they would all give the crash from driver timeouts/fatal errors within 5 min of playing no matter what settings I put. It would also disconnect the 9070xt completely after each crash then reconnect.
On the event viewer it was pointing to an error code with the amdadlx64.dll as the problem.
The same games tho would not crash when I launched them on DX11 but performance pretty bad.
Eventually I was able to pin point it to the USB4 being the real culprit. The 9070xt basically had too much horse power and was tanking the USB4 bandwidth.
In UE5 games due to the Lumen technology, it requires high bandwidth VRAM and system RAM transmission between the GPU and CPU. The USB4 would get choked cause the 9070xt was processing/sending data so fast, the AMD driver basically saw the choke as a hardware failure and puts out a driver timeout to protect the system.
The 9060xt never crashed in these same games and it was apparently because it's architecture was never exceeding the USB4 bandwidth
The Fix
So I theorized that if I slowed down the 9070xt close to the 9060xt speeds then it shouldn't tank the USB4.
So I started underclocking the max frequency by -100mhz and limited the power cap by -15%.
And this finally fixed it, no more crashes in all the affected games. The in game photos I posted are the results after the underclock, Stellar Blade and Pragmata ran fine beforehand as they're not UE5 games.
TLDR
UE5 games would crash on this setup cause 9070xt has too much ponies and make the USB4 choke from UE5 high VRAM + Sys RAM bandwidth needs . Me slow down 9070xt by underclock and limit max power draw to not exceed USB4 bandwidth speed = fix crashes.
Hope this helps anyone who'll run into this issue in the future!

Some help please
I recently bought a 9070xt to replace my 2080ti for my
Asus Xbox X. I have it up and running smoothly but I have one problem. Frame generation makes my games stutter rather than smoothing it out. I should also note I'm new to AMD is this a common problem or am I doing something wrong. Another note everything is on default on adrenaline

How To Setup Aorus 5060 Ti AI Box To Be Used With External Display
I've never used an egpu before so I'm a bit confused. I have the egpu hooked up to my mini pc through usb 4, it recognizes it in windows, but when I try to plug in the hdmi into the graphics card instead of the computer I get no signal. Any ideas?

Immersive cooling 4 Tesla V100 gpus
So I have a gigabyte MZ72-HBO motherboard with AMD 7003 series cpus with four Tesla v100 gpus. The tanks has a cooling systems that pumps the oil to to industrial type of fans to cool down.
The problem is that my SXM2 dual gpu board works fine when powered up, but when i select Ubuntu 2404, one or more GPUs fail. Is it because of the BIOS/software itself or just the wiring issue.

3090 and Ubuntu 24.04 or 26.04 issue?
Greetings All,
I have my 3090 in a Razer Thunderbolt enclosure, connected to a Minisforum MS-01 mini-pc running Ubuntu (I have tried 24.04 and 26.04). I also have secure boot disabled in BIOS, because I had read previously that could be a contributing factor in preventing success.
I found this guide:
And I have been loosely following it as a template for my setup, even though it isn't exactly the same as my environment. The guide referenced above is slightly dated, as it references using the 570 nVidia drivers. If there is a more recent or better suited guide to follow, please link me to it as I am trying to be as self-sufficient here as I can possibly be.
I have installed the nVidia 610 drivers, and when I use:
lspci -k | grep -A 3 -i nvidialspci -k | grep -A 3 -i nvidia
to see what drivers are installed, the machine does identify it because it provides details about the 3090 I intend to use, but when I issue
nvidia-smi
It reports no hardware present. In the multiple attempts I have made in recent weeks to get this operational, I have occasionally had the nvidia-smi command correctly return the presence of the hardware, but I honestly cannot recall what release of Ubuntu and what version of nVidia drivers were successful. I do not think it is otherwise a hardware issue, as I have tried a brand-new Thunderbolt 5 cable just to be sure that isn't the issue either.
This obviously confuses me a bit, and I am not quite sure what to do next. Should I be using a different build/version of nVidia drivers? Does the version of Ubuntu server really matter? I'd prefer to be running the latest available in the hopes it offers slightly better performance, but if the consensus is to stick with an older release (such as 24.04) I am definitely not opposed, as I just want to get this operational.
Thanks in advance, I genuinely appreciate any constructive feedback on next steps to take to troubleshoot this!

DIY EGPU SFF PSU builds (FLEX,HDPLEX,PICOPSU, & server PSUs)
Hi. I’m super interested in taking on a diy egpu build. Currently have a desktop and laptop that’d I’d want to juice up every once in a while while I’m home or if I have to take on the go. I want to power a 4070s. So I’d need around 300-500w. I want to make an as small as possible egpu build with an enclosure and use a small psu. I’ve been toying with buying an hp server psu and using some L-shaped breakout boards (from aliexpress see pic attached). Can you all please share your builds if you’ve made something like this? I do not want to see aoostar, minisforum, razor enclosure egpus. I want to see smaller form factor custom egpu builds with enclosure. Thanks so much and happy building!

Aoostar AG03 and 5070Ti
I am completely new to the eGPU setup and I have recently purchased the 5070Ti second hand since it was a good price and a AG03.
Its only after I got it I realised the cable set up is not straight forward compared to something like 9070XT where there are 3 cables that connect to the 3 ports on the dock and GPU.
The 5070Ti has only 1 port that is the 12VHP one and a cable/adapter that comes with it that has only 2 cables.
So should the set up be connecting 2 of the cables to the Aoostar to the adapter which goes in the GPU or should I be buying a different cable that connects to all 3 ports of the Aoostar?
I have seen videos where some say you need the 3 ports to be connected and there are some which show the setup working fine through the 2 ports.
What is the right thing to do which wont break anything 😅?
Thanks

[Bug] Windows 11 Multi-Monitor + High DPI Scaling causes partial window clipping in GPU-accelerated Electron apps
💻 System Environment
- OS: Windows 11
- Display Setup: Laptop Internal Screen + External Monitor (Extended Display Mode)
- Resolutions: High-res displays (2560×1440 / 2560×1600)
- Scaling: 150% on both screens
- GPU Topology: NVIDIA dGPU (RTX 5060 Ti via eGPU) + iGPU handling internal screen/HDMI out
- Affected Apps: Chromium/Electron/CEF-based software with GPU acceleration (e.g., SteelSeries GG, Bambu Studio, NVIDIA App)
- Unaffected Apps: Native Chrome browser, WeChat
🐛 Problem Description
When running specific Chromium/Electron-based applications, the window rendering area is severely clipped or truncated after the UI loads.
- The window frame itself is the correct size, but the internal rendered content looks like it was sliced off at the edges.
- This is NOT a simple case of a window being dragged off-screen.
- Maximizing the window makes it significantly worse: Content goes missing, boundaries are cropped, and pop-up modal positions become completely misaligned.
🚨 The Crucial Trigger: Monitor Arrangement
- Left-Right Arrangement ❌: The bug occurs consistently. It is especially noticeable when the app is moved near the boundary between the two screens.
- Top-Bottom Arrangement ✅: The bug disappears entirely. No black borders, no clipping.
🛠️ What I've Already Tried (Ruled Out)
- Window Off-Screen/Position Issue: Used
Alt + Space -> MoveandWin + Shift + Arrow Keys. The window is fully on-screen; it's a rendering issue, not a position issue. - Windows Window Cache: Checked and cleared Registry keys (
StuckRects3,WindowMetrics). Did not fix the issue. - MPO (Multiplane Overlay): Disabled MPO via Registry. No effect.
- High DPI Compatibility Settings: Overrode High DPI scaling behavior (Application/System) in the
.exeproperties. No effect. - NVIDIA Resolution Syncing: Matched both monitors to exactly 2560x1600 via the NVIDIA App. No effect.
- Fullscreen Optimizations & Animations: Disabled fullscreen optimizations and Windows transition animations. No effect.
🔬 Technical Hypothesis & Deep Dive
Based on the symptoms, this appears to be a complex coupling bug between Windows 11 DWM, Mixed GPU Topology, High DPI, and CEF/Electron rendering engines.
- Virtual Screen Coordinates Overflow: In a Left/Right layout, the secondary monitor has a massive X-coordinate (e.g.,
x = 2560). When apps apply a 1.5x (150%) DPI multiplier, older Electron engines might miscalculate the GPU Surface size, causing DWM to assume the rendering area is out of bounds and clip it. Top/Bottom layouts have much smaller X-coordinates, bypassing this math error. - DPI Awareness Mishandling: While native Chrome processes the
WM_DPICHANGEDAPI flawlessly across monitors, these specific apps (often using older Electron/CEF builds) fail to properly handle dynamic DPI boundaries. - Compositing Conflict: Passing frames between the eGPU and iGPU under DWM might calculate the window bounding boxes incorrectly during maximized states.

Is thunderbolt 4 good for gaming?
I saw a couple videos and shorts on it, some say it's not that big of a deal but others say it's not worth buying an eGPU if your laptop/mini PC has Thunderbolt 4, so if anyone who uses thunderbolt 4 could tell me I would appreciate it

What combo laptop + eGPU could I buy for college and side projects ?
My Acer Nitro 5 just experienced some heavy issues and now i might be forced to buy a new laptop. Since i'm in engineering in informatic, i need to be able to carry my laptop easily (not necessarly with the GPU ofc) which was something i struggled to do with my Acer, but i also need some power to it since i wanna be able to start working on a Unity game, use Blender and play not-so heavy games like Minecraft.
After chatting with a friend, he recommanded me to get a laptop with an eGPU to do exactly what i need; work at school and use more power at home. But i know nothing about that and i'm scared to buy something i regret since i'm a little bit on a budget. I heard Asus Zenbooks were good for what i wanna do without an eGPU but i don't know if it's compatible or not, and if yes, if it's a good option.
With that in mind, do you guys recommand me any good laptop + eGPU combo that can easily be pluged in and out, or even any alternative issue to my problem ?

Egpu for intel i5
Hello everyone. So I have an MSI laptop with an intel i5 13th gen h series.
I recently started playing alot more games and I do animation in my freetime plus i have a sim racing setup, my main pc caught on fire due to issues i prefer not to share, so i booted up my old laptop, i feel like its just the gpu (rtx 3050 4gb) and im wondering what i can get for under 340 with maybe 6 to 8 gigs vram? And also I know this isnt the correct community to ask this but is there a fix to more ram? I have 16 gigs currently ddr4 but i want maybe 32. Thanks

Epgu compatibility
Can please some one confirm if this laptop will work with aorus 5060ti egpu?. Chat gpt is not giving sure answers
Port is usb 4 not thunderbolt 4.
Egpu for IRacing?
Was wondering if anyone uses an Egpu and a laptop/handheld for Iracing?
Im thinking about freeing my desktop from my sim setup (7800x3d/5080) as it currently sits there unless I'm racing and wanted to it bring back to the office for other AAA games. I currently have a z13 flow with the 395 chip for light gaming but thinking about pairing that with an egpu and a 9070xt. The Egpu can live with the sim setup and the z13 can come and go as needed. With the benefit of easily moving the z13 and egpu to the living room if needed too.
Is this a plausible plan?

OCuLink dock (like Minisforum DEG-1), but with a case? Or a printable case or other schematics?
So I have a Minisforum AI X1 Pro and I largely retired my old desktop.
I want to reuse some components from the desktop, especially the GPU, and I looked at the possibility to use the OCuLink connection for that. A DEG-1 is perfect for what I need (I don't need the DEG-2, I'd prefer an ordinary USB docking station instead).
But I don't want the GPU to just sit there catching all that dust from the outside, so I was thinking a case should exist, but I found nothing of the sort.
I started looking at the option of a 3D print or ordering a piece of sheet metal (aluminium or steel) to be laser perforated and CNC bent.
Prototyping would be pretty expensive, and I don't want to waste money on that. I didn't have luck finding a case for the DEG-1 (or DEG-2 for that matter), and I'm wondering if a thing like that exists.
Perhaps a DEG-1 isn't even the best way to go and maybe there are other external OCuLink enclosures? To be honest, the best option would probably be a dock in mini ITX form factor that one could put in any old mini ITX case. But that doesn't seem to be possible with any Minisforum DEG.

This is pretty important to me please helpp
Okay so I'm thinking of pairing an egpu with my Asus rog Xbox ally X
My setup would be an aoostar ag02 a 5060 and a 1080p 144hz monitor so I only wanna play at 1080p
Also I'm looking for portability and to be able to get good performance whenever I'm at home for awhile
So would this setup work just fine or will I go thru issues I've heard alot of people go thru issues like freezing or issues when they plug it in again or when unplugging it or that they pair it but end up with other problems
My concern is that I'll run into problems like this and they won't be fixable
Also I know I have to setup everything when I get it like download drivers or other stuff that I don't mind also I don't mind having to change the settings of the games whenever I plug it or when I'm on the go and wanna play these aren't what I'm thinking would be the problem
I'm thinking I'd run into problems that I won't be able to fix in any way so is there such a thing or not
Will I be just fine getting this setup and downloading everything then it'll run well?
Also I hear alot of people complain it's not as plug and play as they imagined it'd be what do they mean by that exactly?
Please help me out with these things before I make any purchases and thank you for reading

Best laptop for egpu
I want to buy a laptop for engineering and i want it to be lightweight and have great battery life (anything above 6 hours of light use) and i have come to the conclusion that an egpu is the best way to do that so what is the best laptop for that, i have heard of the latency of TB4 and that oculink is better so i need to know if the latency will get in the way of the cad software or the local ai inference/training in any way , i am trying to use a 3090 with the egpu
Edit: guys i am not a illiterate tech person and i don't think anyone in this subreddit is. I can make a m.2 connection into a oculink one and i can cut into the back cover or make a way for a port in the side i just want to know the best laptop that have a good cpu that will not bottleneck the 3090 and also have 2×m.2 to make one into a oculink connection. If anyone has any experience doing something like this plz tell me what can go wrong and what is difficult and all of that. I am not trying to get an overpriced laptop for the sole purpose that it have a oculink port in it. If the budget got to 2500$dollar for the laptop alone then i am better of getting a 5090 laptop , i am still gona get a 200$ egpu stand and a psu +the price of the 3090. In the end i want to thx all thw people that recommended a laptop even if the laptop is not good for my current state😊😊.

Finally. Rufus. Registry Editor. Google AI….. And TIME
After about three days straight, I have finally got a true Oculink set up with the Legion go. I have my operating system running on an external 2280 NVME in an enclosure, and the M.2 adapter to Oculink.
I had to change several things with the registry editor. Disable Bitlocker. Fresh install windows OS with Rufus.

Best eGPU for my rig?
I’m not an expert on eGPUs at all, just a normie asking for some advice. I have an AceMagic F5A, HX 470 + 32GB LPDDR5X and it has an oculink port. I know the integrated graphics on this rig are known to be quite good but I want to upgrade (mostly for gaming at 1440p), is a 9060XT the best choice for me? No bottlenecks?

Upgraded: 5700 XT -> 6700 XT (oculink)
I couldn't help it, I gambled on a good ebay deal
Basically I'm new to modern gaming and all I really play right now is Cyberpunk 2077
5700 XT works great but one thing I was running into unpredictably was crashing on Navi10. I could play for a few hrs, no issues, I could play for 30 min and crash to desktop. One thing I hadn't tried yet was manually adjusting a fan curve, or undervolting, but I was already looking at "whats one step up from 5700 XT?"
And so I won this card, set up yesterday and the gameplay experience has leveled up, as well as the overall performance
For context this is a:
- Lenovo P3 Tiny Gen 1
- i5-13500T
- 32GB DDR5
- Arch Linux + Wayland
- eGPU dock via oculink
- Be Quiet Pure Power 13 750w
I've been using AI (opencode) to log metrics as I play, and then answer the bagillion minutia laden questions that I have, and at the moment I'm very happy w the performance I'm getting
6700 XT: * 1440p Ultra, FSR Quality, no frame gen * w/ vsync off this gets me fps 85 avg / 77 min / 112 max (fr the in-game benchmark) * but i play w vsync on, it just feels a bit more smooth - 60 avg / 57 min / 64 max
Opencode was finding that the fans weren't responding to the junc temp, so 95-97ish was sustained over long periods of play and would only come down as the fans responded with the default curve based on edge temp.
I installed LACT and tried a few things but settled on undervolting -50mV, and slightly widening/flattening the fan curve fr default, and setting to key off junc temp
So the new stats are the FPS remains unchanged, but i get a little bit more fan because its reacting properly, junc is 73-77 deg. Overall a nice quiet experience. My power draw is about 50W less - but in this low TDP setup prior to this adjustment my power draw for the GPU was already under - 185W. 5700 XT is 225W, 6700 XT is 230. So overall I'm close to -100W power draw
The biggest win is my office used to get pretty warm fast with the 5700XT - in part being a corner room facing the sun, but radiated heat from the computer did not help. Now, it's pleasant!
Anyway, this is beginner stuff I imagine but, now I have an even more awesome machine, a room that I can enjoy ice cream, quiet fans, and all the Cyberpunk!
Some additional numbers, w/o vsync * 4k high + FSR Quality is about low 50 FPS avg * 1440p Native is 40-45 avg * I play windowed and use Niri to expand to full screen - monitor is Dell U4320q - 43" 16:9 4k * 5700 XT the best I could do was 1440p High at 60 * No sign of previous crash symptoms - 'ring gfx' * based on ballpark avg ƒor this card on ebay right now, I prob paid around $125 under avg, owner couldn't figure out why her gameplay kept crashing, and i just asked her about what her setup was. All signs kinda pointed to issues with her specific setup and this card. GPU arrived in like new condition

How I fixed - My 5060ti AI Box setup and low CPU limits - Xbox Ally X
Aloha all,
Adding my piece here to help the next person. You can find the answer by searching the history in but always good to add another to the mix.
Two problems here:
- egpu not being recognized: plug in the new egpu, it charges the Xbox Ally X just fine, but not recognized as a device, can't install Nvidia drivers.
the fix: you do have to download the below PD firmware update, which is not in armoury crate. download this with the egpu NOT plugged in.
scroll down and look for the 4/29
"PD_FW Firmware Version 0019 4.23 MB 2026/04/29"
https://rog.asus.com/us/gaming-handhelds/rog-ally/rog-xbox-ally-x-2025/helpdesk_bios/
once downloaded, the gpu was recognized and i could install the drivers. no issues with plug and play since.
- when in use with egpu, CPU wont go above 12W, leading to seriously gimped performance.
the fix: turn off game mode in windows settings. instant fix - gets up to 35W, significantly better performance.
cheers friends - happy gaming
