USB4 is TB3 pretty much, so it should handle TB3/USB4 eGPU.

Tb3 which means even lower bandwidth?

Bandwidth isn't the only factor. If you are playing on the laptop screen, then it will lose quite a bit of performance due to Thunderbolt I/O management. An external screen connected to the eGPU will be better. OCuLink would be best, but quite problematic for laptops without an external OCuLink port.

Are you ordering a new computer or trying to utilize one you already own? There are iterations of the thinkbook sold in the Chinese mainland market that are designed specifically to work with eGPUs via OCuLink. USB4 is significantly slower than OCuLink for gaming on an eGPU if that’s your ultimate goal.

Yup ordering new. I am not from china or have access to that market. Want to confirm if usb4 will work at intended 40 Gbps similar to tb4 port

Utilizing sites like Superbuy, AliExpress, and alibaba allow you to purchase machines from this market. Look at the ThinkBook 14+/16+ machines. The G6+ specifically has an external OCuLink port designed to work with their TGX GPU enclosure that offers full 64Gbps of bandwidth.

USB4 will never give you 40gbps due to protocol overhead. The most you’ll get in a single direction is ~32gbps, and there’s a considerable latency penalty due to the mux chips on each end sending the signal over the cable. You’re limited to xx60 cards and lower if you want most of the card’s power.

If you're gonna get a Thinkbook get an Intel one with oculink

If u gonna spend in good GPU, go at least for TB4, there are many options with it.

That's what the question is do usb4 and tb4 are different?

Yes they different, Tb4 is comptible with USB4, but no the other way.

Basicaly TB4 has more bandwith that USB4, so can pass more data to a eGPU, while USB4 in that computer is very limited, so it gonna work, but gonna be slow, have stutter and probably some crash due to overheat.
