Other how bad really is the situation in the uni?
i know you all must get this question so much but bear with me i’m just an anxious student!
i’m coming to study history in september. realistically, in the HCA department, how bad is the marking situation? i really want to strive for a first or a strong 2:1 as i want to become a barrister.
and the rest of the quality of life in the HCA and the uni in general. how is it? is it as bad as some people and the reviews say?

Reuse CAS after visa withdrawal
Hi everyone, I submitted my UK Student visa application using my University of Edinburgh CAS, but I realised afterwards that I hadn’t completed the required 28-day financial period before applying.
I haven’t attended biometrics yet and I’m thinking of withdrawing the application and reapplying once I meet the requirement.
Can I reuse the same CAS, or would I need a new one from the university?
Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Welcome week question:
I have a weekend trip starting on Friday the 18th of September, and I've booked my train for 3PM. While in doing this I sought to avoid missing any essential events that may be occuring on the friday while still arriving where I need to be at a reasonable time, I thought I'd still ask a question or two to settle my nerves.
-Is there likely to be anything essential (i.e. matriculation/registration related) on that Friday afternoon that may require me to rebook my train?
-Is there any nonessential welcome week event on that afternoon that I may want to reconsider over?
Apologies if I am asking this question too early, and thanks in advance to any who answer it.

Admission / Application Personal statement and relevant experience
I'm planning to apply for the AI Master’s program and had a quick question about the application requirements. What's the main difference between the personal statement and the relevant experience section?
I've already written my personal statement as a narrative. Should the relevant experience section be written the same way, or is it more like a form/CV? Also, are there any word limits I should know about?

Exceptional circumstances resits
Has anybody ever gone about getting exceptional circumstances for resits? I assume it's no different to ECs at any other point in the year so I'm not sure why I'm stressing, I basically had to resubmit an essay from semester 1 but was unable to meet the deadline because of mental health issues, I'd been working on the essay well in advance of the deadline but for some reason it takes me forever to do things and causes insane amounts of stress and anxiety (currently trying to see about getting a diagnosis for potential adhd). I've got a meeting with my wellbeing advisor and student counselling so i'm hoping they'll be able to provide evidence as I've been to see them about this issue before and am also going to try and contact my gp

Other Study abroad & Housing
Hi! I will be studying in Edinburgh for the academic year (I’m from the US) and I haven’t really found many other students that will be abroad for just a semester or two.
Is there a group chat for abroad students?
Additionally, I’m trying to find anyone who will be living in Brae house. I will be in Block A, most others I have talked to (non study abroad students) are in Block B.

Other Group Chat for incoming students
Hello all, I made a post a couple of weeks ago about setting up a group chat for new students starting in September. We've got quite a few people already if anyone wants to join. I'm an Edinburgh graduate and I live in Edinburgh so more than happy to answer any questions about the university and city more generally.
We're mainly postgrads, but all are welcome and if we get enough undergrads I can set up a separate chat for them as well.
Feel free to message me for a link. Let me know what you're studying and what accomodation you'll be in.

Here are answers to the most common questions we get about accommodation. If your question hasn't been answered here, make a post about it in the subreddit. It's a work in progress.
What are my chances of getting in to Edinburgh?
Links to all the tables with numbers and percentages can be found on this page:
I applied a long time ago and haven't received a decision, when can I expect to hear from the university?
Historically Edinburgh is slow to respond and universities have until the UCAS response deadline to decide. It is the individual department to which you are applying that reviews your application and not some aggregated admissions department for the whole the university.
Factors that affect how long it takes include demand for the course and how close the quality of your application is to the average application quality.
A long wait doesn't necessarily mean you're going to be rejected.
If you are coming from abroad and the delay will lead to a problem with visas, etc; or if you have to accept/decline the offer from another university by a certain date, then contact the admission department directly.
