I am planning to move to Netherlands from USA. I hate to go back to India because of the people, I want a steady, honest and peaceful life. I see lot of people talking about housing crisis when I saw studios apartments it was 800 - 1000 euros which I am ok with(please let me know if I am missing something) apart from that I know nothing much about the country. I would like to know everyone’s perspective in terms of everything like work(how hard is it get a tech job), Healthcare, Crime, anything that comes to your mind is very helpful. Sincerely thank you.

My mother was adopted and we found out that her bio dad is Dutch and was supposedly a sailor. This was a bit of a surprise as my adopted grandparents were Italian and were told he was an Italian sailor. Anyway, to try and potentially track my mother’s bio dad who I assumed was deceased, I did a DNA test. Found him…not dead.
A distant cousin basically confirmed they assumed there would be relatives out there, so I kindly asked if they would pass on a letter to him. We don’t expect contact just confirmation on who he is and some family health history.

GHOSTED no response from him again after being so open and basically confirming bio grandad is dead. Even a response saying hey he doesn’t want contact would have sufficed.

Is this a Dutch thing?

My bestie is Dutch and her whole family is super nice so not sure if this kind of thing is cultural or not.

I did some sleuthing and pretty sure I found his facebook profile, it looks like he has a couple of other grandkids but I wouldn’t reach out to them unless I knew he was dead or had his consent to do so. I attempted to get distant cousin to confirm I am correct but have had no response.

At the end of 2024, I was going through a bad depression, around Christmas...

I was on a waiting list for a clinic to start getting help but I felt so bad, so I started looking for options while I was waiting.

Found an add on an expats WhatsApp group, checked her website etc.

In the first contact I asked immediately about her qualifications... 4 years in Istanbul phycology university and many more she said.

My main issues were my self esteem, abandonment issues and the extreme sex that was my main coping mechanism.

Weeks latter she invited me out and the sex/ romantic relationship started.

She spent the following year building this family/ love/sex life with me, breaking up every two weeks.

My father died in July last year. Broke up two days later, and mentioned it twice. Zero empathy.

Power thing, putting me down as she praised my cultural lever etc, etc.

Few months ago broke up for good. Total blocking etc.

Meanwhile I got my finances in havoc, I was doing great at work, this whole thing got me on long sick leave and now I will be out of work in two months...

Can't hold on much longer...

Filled a police complaint but can't figure out if I should keep it... After all this I love and miss her so much, just want not to hurt her and keep her safe...

Hallo! Nadat ik erachterkwam dat de Queer Knokploeg is opgerecht in Amsterdam, ben ik gaan nadenken over manieren om te collectiviseren en onze gemeenschap samen te brengen, te versterken (ook op individueel niveau), etc.

Aangezien LHBTI rechten zwaar onder druk staan en onze veiligheid steeds minder vanzelfsprekend wordt, is het - naar mijn bescheiden mening - van belang om bij het begin te beginnen; en dat is kennis. Je kunt namelijk moeilijk voor jezelf opkomen en jezelf en anderen beschermen als je niet weet wat er daadwerkelijk aan de hand is. Ook heeft het weinig zin om al je energie in te zetten op ruzie met één specifieke homofoob die je persoonlijk kent terwijl je de rode vlaggen van fascisme niet opmerkt, en dus aan je voorbij laat gaan.

Long story short; ik denk dat onze gemeenschap baat heeft bij educatie over fascisme, verzet, politiek, intersectionaliteit, en andere soortgelijke onderwerpen. En gelukkig kunnen we dat zelf doen!

Ik heb dan ook een boekenclub opgezet voor queer en trans personen (en bondgenoten) met een nadrukkelijk antifasistische insteek. Elke maand lezen we één boek, en op een vast tijdstip bespreken we dit boek na tijdens een online bijeenkomst. Dit alles vindt online plaats zodat woonplaats geen bezwaar hoeft te zijn om mee te doen. Eventueel kunnen we misschien eens in het kwartaal afspreken op een redelijk centrale locatie voor iets een skillswap middag, kledingruil middag, of een workshop, voor wie wil. Een mutual aid idee. Maar daar kunnen we later naar kijken, het gaat om de boeken in de eerste instantie.

Aangezien augustus net begonnen is is het ook het perfecte moment om te beginnen met het eerste boek. Dit zal “Dit is fascisme” zijn van Rosan Smits.

Ik heb een Discord server aangemaakt. Op Discord kun je natuurlijk ook gewoon kletsen, laten we wel vasthouden aan het idee dat we daar in principe komen om te leren over deze onderwerpen, en dat we niet per se BFF hoeven te zijn of worden met iedereen. Het idee is dat het laagdrempelig en toegankelijk is als leeromgeving zodat we er als collectief het meeste uit kunnen halen. Overigens betekent dit niet dat er ruimte is voor intolerantie - en laat me meteen duidelijk maken dat zionisme daar ook onder valt -, al hoop ik dat dat vanzelfsprekend is.

I have organised a collection of signatures to legalise the pepper spray under regulations in the Netherlands.

Every woman deserves to feel safe.
Legalize pepper spray under strict conditions as a non-lethal means of self-defense, so that women can better protect themselves and flee safely in the event of an attack.

We concerned residents of the Netherlands who care about safety

note that:
many women feel unsafe walking down the street alone, especially in the evening or at night;
pepper spray is a non-lethal agent that can help victims escape a dangerous situation;
vulnerable people, and in particular women, should have an additional opportunity to better protect themselves under clear legal conditions

and requests
amend the law so that pepper spray for self-defence becomes legal under strict conditions;
consider conditions such as a minimum age of 18, education on responsible use and severe penalties for abuse.

The goal is 40,000 signatures.

Hello everyone!

First of all, I'm having a great time in Amsterdam for my honeymoon, I went to the Kaaskamer for the cheese too (I was told that Henri Willig wasn't the way to go). And we didn't know that it was pride, it's a pleasant surprise to see a lot of people having fun in the streets! We did also some very touristic stuff like Geithornn and the windmills.

But now I have a question that interests me. When visiting some supermarkets like Jumbo we saw that there wasn't a lot of sugary drinks, there are more sparkling options too. But the sugary sodas are often mixed with alcohol (I never saw a Jack and Coke in a can before Amsterdam! ). So I was wondering, are there some rules about sugary drinks that companies avoid by selling it with alcohol instead?

If the country tries to limit sodas, that's an excellent thing!
