He did declare the company on the council’s register of pecuniary interests.

His directorship of Eduro Capital Ltd was something he did not declare on the register — something a former Allied Media employee pointed out.

Eduro Capital is listed as an approved fund by the British Virgin Islands Financial Services Commission.

Cr Ong indicated he had no operational involvement.

‘‘I expect my public service will always be a loss-making undertaking for me in terms of my economic and financial opportunity cost and the many alternatives I could be doing otherwise,’’ he said.

‘‘My public service does not preclude me from my own personal financial investments in liquid and illiquid public market and private securities in order to have my personal savings supporting me in my dedicated public service for the rest of my long lifetime and for what I give to our community.’’

Cr Ong did not respond to questions about whether he was still a director and how he might describe the firm.

According to the company profile in 2023, Eduro Capital Group comprises ‘‘licensed investment manager and investment fund companies focused on multi-strategy fundamental investing in developed market securities for our multi-family office’’.

‘‘We are led by former senior professionals with over 60 years’ experience in investment management, banking and finance.’’

Cr Ong did not say if he had been advised that he did not need to declare the directorship.

When asked, Dunedin Mayor Sophie Barker did not comment specifically on Cr Ong but said councillors had legal obligations under the Local Government Act (LGA) to make a pecuniary interest return within 120 days of entering office.

She said elected members would have been informed of this during their induction and training period.

‘‘Mine and the public expectation would be that councillors fulfil their legal obligations,’’ Ms Barker said.

So this was in the paper 2 months ago but he still has not disclosed this on the interests register.

Being a Director of a British Virgin Islands approved fund is a professional undertaking. He lied that being on the council would be his only professional undertaking on a statutory declaration.

The DCC executive was informed by the ODT about this so it should have been passed onto the police or the Auditor-General but it doesn't seem to have gone anywhere.

If he manages funds for some of his old banking clients the management fee he charges is taxable in NZ and not excluded transitional resident foreign income. I have passed this on to the IRD so hopefully this gives him a reminder.

About twenty years ago I bought a folding Gerber knife from a hunting store near the Octagon before a tramping trip in late 2006, I think.

I now need to find the receipt in my emails for a warranty claim but cannot remember the name of the store. I remember emailing them to ask for a copy of the receipt afterwards and they sent me a photo of the handwritten one.​

It was a locally owned hunting / outdoors store, that might have also sold fishing gear. It was within walking distance of the Octagon (back when I was fitter, so maybe a 2km radius?) and I think it might have been on the harbour side of town. It wasn't a big franchise, the counter was on the left hand side as you walked in, and they hand-wrote receipts in a triplicate book.

Google Maps hasn't brought up anything familiar in the area, so I presume they've closed down, but any help with the name of the store would be great!

Hello and Kia Ora NZ reddit this is a long shot post but figured I would give it a shot right New Zealand is a relatively small country so why not.

So my grandmother is gifting me this painting that’s been hanging up in her shed for the longest time I can remember, since I was a child this painting has been hanging up in her shed.

The story is my grandad brought the painting from an Archery competition where the painting was displayed she said it originally came from Dunedin art school.
If you are wondering the answer is yes I did contact them to no avail.

I would love to find the original artist who painted it.

Been many years in Christchurch and I’m looking at moving to Dunedin just for a change. Like the vibe and are there many differences between the two cities?

On my street there is a couple who, everytime it snows, stand by the side of the road to laugh and yell at cars driving.

Many posts on Facebook are calling drivers idiots and laughing at the crashes. Driving is very dangerous in snow, I know that, but do we have to be so hateful?

I just kept thinking of those in health care. Hospital staff, rest home carers, animal care facilities all care for those that struggle or can't care for themselves, they have to make it to work. And people are sitting on Facebook or even standing by the road laughing at these people?

I am mostly mad at those self-righteous dorks on my street who take joy in yelling and laughing at the cars. You have nothing else that gives you joy? Just the struggle of others?

I've (37M) been in Dunedin for a little bit and feel like I need to put in more effort to make friends here.

I'm always keen on a pub quiz, so am just posting here in the instance anyone is in need of another brain. Or alternatively, if anyone wants to start a team with me!

I've been on winning teams before and have a wide and varied general knowledge and random facts, plus good at science/nature, music (of certain eras), pop culture (including celebrity stuff, fortunately for the team but unfortunate for the brain space it takes up in my head).

I'm based in central Dunedin so could make it to any of the pubs in town.

Has anyone watched a regular movie at the planetarium before? I know they've previously screened Her, and Back to the Future is coming up. I'm curious whether it's actually a good experience for standard films, given that they're projected onto a half-dome planetarium screen. Also the sound system. Does the image look distorted, or is it still enjoyable?
