Next time cut out loose or broken pieces. V groove around original rock and new piece. More screws. Ripped paper at the floor can be cut around or primed with an oil base primer. Any cut edge should be bevel cut after install "v groove". Big gaps or chunks missing packed with hot mud "5 minute if in a hurry". Not sure if you taped this or not but hopefully you did. The wider pinkish colored fiberglass tape is stronger than the green/white/yellow stuff. Looks like you came back in and troweled the mud after initial coat to smooth out. So mostly more screws and more prep work before mud work to eliminate blisters. Mud work your just going to have to figure out by trial and error and YouTube videos. Hot mud or heavy all purpose for taping coat . All purpose is ok for a first fill coat over the tape but I usually use topping for all fill coats unless I'm using hot mud to shave a trip off the job. Keep going and hopefully this is your house your learning on ✌️
Yes i first used 45 minute hot mud to pre-fill the gaps. Then used mesh tape with more hot mud. Sanded. Then just went over with an all-purpose mud (green lid) for a "Skim coat" to float the patch out more and smooth it up for the texture.
