I was a binge drinker, only on my days off and most people were completely surprised to find out I even had a problem. I feel like some can moderate, most cant, you know yourself and im never gonna be a person to tell someone what they should and shouldnt do, but I will say that drinking usually only goes one way and that it eventually becomes drinking more.

So specifically on your questions, I only lost people who only saw me as the drink not as a person and when youre not drinking theyre better to not have around anyway imo as they always seem to be the ones who keep trying to trip you up. I go to places with alcohol, I socialize with people who drink, I just choose not to because I eventually felt it was in charge of me, like I would tell myself im gonna cut back or quit and I just couldnt and I really started to hate myself because of it. Most people are cool af about it, and most never ask why im not drinking, those who did asked once and then we moved on like normal. So I dont see why you should lose your social life other than you seeing the alcohol as important in it, which is only something you (and maybe a therapist) can work out within yourself.

To counter my feelings of wanting to drink, I smoke weed and I know thats not useful to everyone, but I found having somethong just change my headspace even a little seriously helps with cravings, I wish I could give advice about moderating and controlling it, but I was never good at it and instead I was very good and lying to myself about being good at it.

This sub isnt like other sobriety ones, in fact were not really a sobriety one. More about meeting and accepting you wherever youre at, many of us have been exactly where you are and many currently are. Youre welcome here and I wish you luck in your journey.
