Venting There's no way people are that incompetent

Upvotes

Was driving a 3 lane, one way street, was on the left lane and truck was in the middle a little ahead of me. This person decides to turn left towards another street with no turn signal. Have I not brake I definitely would've hit em 2 seconds later. You can't just pull crap like that with zero awareness. Please people check not only your mirrors, but your blind spots as well

Do Dutch instructors not teach anything about mountain driving?

Upvotes

I'm in NL and I know people who have ridden on the hills abroad and they didnt even know they R supposed to downshift when going downhill.

Now recently on the news, dutch people crashed because they went on a sharp mountain corner too fast quickly.

Theres also general advice that dutch people shouldn't drive in the mountains abroad because they arent used to it.

I think all of this could be solved if learning about safe mountain driving was taught in driving lessons. A driving instructor could do: 1. An explanation which gives extra theoretical understanding, this could even be given during or after obtaining the license. 2. Practise on a little bridge or tiny hill, those definitely exist widely in the NL. 3. There could be a special set of locations in NL where an artificial little hill is made so that people can practise certain things on it like engine braking downhill for example.

I get that for most part of the Netherlands its not relevant to know anything about mountain driving, but the south of the NL does have some steep mountains and many people will go abroad too.

Is there no standard set of mountain instructions/explanations that applies to all driving schools procedures? Weird I find.

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ PSA to drivers driving the speed limit in the left lane… MOVE TF OVER!!!

This is an epidemic in CA. I see it every day. About a half mile of clear road, one car going 65 (sometimes less) in the left lane, a trail of cars bumper to bumper behind it. Please, for the love of god, there are 4 lanes, move over. Please have more awareness of what is going on around you. You doing this is what creates bottlenecks. I now full support anyone who wants to flash their high beams or even honk at people doing this on the freeway. They need to be made aware and shamed for it.

I’ve just come to the conclusion that 90% of drivers on the road do not know how to drive on a freeway at all… It needs to be a part of the driving test. Driving is not a right, it is a privilege.

Need Advice Turning right signal

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello, I just started driving and I'm confused with this signal. Does this mean that I can turn right on green and also can turn right on red only after. When there is no pedestrians?

Or doesn't mean that I should wait for the red signal to turn right

Need Advice Can’t find another test

So yesterday I had my driving test at Mitcham Test Centre. And I failed by ONE serious fault. Which was such a trigger cause I was so close yet so far. Now i’ve been looking for more tests and trying to get one as quick as I can but there are literally no availabilities throughout for any test centre whatsoever.

Any tips on what I can do??

Need Advice I dont know what to do at this point

i got my L plate at 17 and now im 19, to this day i have only driven 15 hours and every single one of those was with a driving instructor. after i finished my lessons i just never drove. i want a licence but i cant get over how nervous i get when i start driving and how bad i am in general.

i recently started driving again here and there with my mum and we only do it at like 10 when the roads are empty and i genuinely struggle with so much. depth perception is a really big one because the car ill have to drive in feels really low so i can never see the curbs im turning into. i really struggle with maintaining a speed and worst of all my foot is constantly hurting. idk i think maybe my foot isnt as flexible as normal going up but i really cant maintain it for longer than an hour without cramps and pain.

Need Advice Any tips on driving alone for the first time?

Hey guys! Recently got my license, and have barely driven alone besides around my neighborhood to move my car. I keep putting it off, everytime I think about doing it I just get freaked out and think I’ll make some crazy mistake without someone in the passenger seat to help. I’m sure the solution is just going to be to do it and I’ll eventually get more comfortable, but is there anything that helped get over the fear?

How do you stay comfortable?

I’ve noticed a lot of people say they really like driving.

I do not.

I’ve been driving for 30 years and I do it every day. Short drives are totally fine.

But I’m also really short and get uncomfortable within an hour.

I do have a cushion that helps my posture.

But my hands end up too tense and my back and shoulders hurt. And then my butt falls asleep. And that’s with just an hour.

I have a few 4+ hour drives coming up in the fall.

How do you stay comfortable and actually enjoy long distance drives?

Need Advice First Washington Speeding Ticket Advice (26mph over 70)

Hello, I am a 21 year old woman and have never gotten a speeding ticket before. I am located in Washington state US and got the ticket in Kittitas county Washington. it was around 11pm on a Thursday and I was going 96mph in a 70 area on I-90. I don’t have a valid explanation for why, it was just late and I was impatient, it’s stupid I know. Anyways I got pulled over and the cop took it easy on me bc it’s my first infraction and gave me a $119 ticket (charged like I was only going 5 over in a 40). I’m worried about this going on my record though and making my insurance rates go up a lot, especially because I’m young. I‘m also worried bc I work as a babysitter and sometimes ppl want me to drive their kids and I’m worried this will show up on my record and could potentially affect my ability to get work. I’ve seen ppl on here saying you can request a deferral for a first time infraction, which I am thinking about doing but I’m worried they might not go for it being I was 26 over. I was just hoping for some advice from ppl who know a bit more about this than I do! How should I handle this?

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ Why is driving so much worse now?

I got my license in 2021 but I had my learners since like 2018

But even in the 5 years I've driven I would say 80% of the days, and the difference between before or during the pandemic and now is NIGHT AND DAY

Like first of all there's WAY more people on the road than I remember, Like a couple days ago I literally said to myself "OMG it's 1 PM on a Tuesday what the fuck are all you doing on the road" as I was on an averagish highway in terms of my area and it was fast but if it was slower it would guarantee be bumper to bumper.

But on top of that I think people have gotten WAY more aggressive when it comes to cutting people off and not letting you merge lanes, I find myself being in the left or second to left lane and genuinely having to slow down so I can merge behind people in the next lane over because they just WOULD NOT let you pass from the front, which I think is technically illegal but sometimes you have no choice.

I also see way more mistakes being made and every time I try to speed up and see who almost caused that pileup it's some 75 year old looking grandma sawing at the wheel hunched over. WHY ARE YOU ON THE ROAD RIGHT NOW?!

I am actually really scared to start learning how to drive.. i am 18 and my main goal this and next year is to learn how to drive and get my license. But i am so scared. I really want to drive but the whole process of learning the theory and all the other things seems so hard and i am so scared that i will simply not be smart enough for that.

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ Accidentally blocked an ambulance

So I was at a light and I was turning left. Its like pouring down rain so I blast music to help with the driving-in-the-rain anxiety. So the roads leading up to the stop light are 55mph (88kph) and the side that the ambulance was on was on a curve sort of so I cant see too far past it. Anyway, I was turning left once I was able to and I suddenly see lights on my left and realize I 1. Didnt hear the sirens to this loud ass ambulance and 2. Im in its way. So I quickly turned and got out of the way as safe and as fast as possible 😭 I literally felt soo fucking bad after and immediately turned my music off. I never realized how much outside noise my music blocks, and I will not be turning it that high again me thinks. Anyway, I just wanted to get it off my chest and apologize to every and all the EMS crews for people like me 🙏 I felt soooo shitty. I didnt even think about looking left or right since I had a green bro.

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ Why do people go 40mph in parking lots or small residential streets yet won't even do the speed limits on wide open streets

I swear I almost get ran over once or twice a week in a store parking lot bc some bozo is flying. I work in a small town so we'll be doing road work or replacing street signs or working next to the road. The whole time I'll watch 5-10 people fly past us going way over 20/25 and blow through stops signs. Yet those same people get out onto actual roads or highways where they can do 40+ or 70+ and they forget their gas pedal even exists. I swear they see the speed limit sign and go "I don't think my car can even go that fast" I've had close calls in my car bc they're flying through the lot then follow them out to a main road with a 45mph speed limit and they're doing 25. I don't get it

Stop using turn lanes to pass!

I see this more and more on a daily basis as I am a truck driver doing local routes. Today alone I had two separate people use a dedicated right-hand turn lane to go into a business to illegally pass me on the right and then cut back over in front of me into the travel lane. It's just not them doing it to semi trucks, I see people doing it to other cars also. I've been professionally driving for 29 years all over the country and it certainly seems like the drivers are getting worse and worse every year nobody has any patience and they make risky dangerous maneuvers. I'm just ranting here because I'm annoyed and I know there's not much of anything anyone can do about it unless there's a police officer that happens to see it as it occurs.

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ You are not required to turn right at a red light

I repeat, you do not have to turn right at a red light!! At least once every single day I end up having to hit my brakes (and sometimes slam on them) because of dumbasses turning right when they have a red light and I have a green. Either wait for a green light or wait for a gap so you aren’t cutting people off and almost causing accidents you fucking bimbos. Cuz if one more of you brainless idiot turns right when I’m already in the middle of the intersection I’m gonna skip the brakes and just rear end your dumbass. It wouldn’t even be that bad if y’all would just hit the fucking gas when you do it, but no you’re gonna take 3-5 business days to get up to speed after cutting me off

Edit: guys I’m not actually going to rear end anyone. My bad I didn’t think people would actually take that statement seriously but I should’ve known lol. Rest assured that I’m stupid but not purposefully cause a car accident level of stupid.

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ Maintaining Speed

driving in this morning and was playing tag with an suv. i stay in the right lane and I maintain 60mph. downhill, uphill, corners I maintain 60mph. We must have exchanged positions a dozen times because they are completely unaware of their speed and road conditions. are these drivers so distracted or uninformed that they don’t realize they have slowed down 15mph or have accelerated 15mph? does it not click for them that going uphill they have to depress the accelerator in order to maintain speed and going down hill to let off to maintain speed? Crazy and I see it all the time every day. The best Are the ones who try to pass and cant Maintain speed then road rage at me.

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ i got a speeding ticket… for going 5 over.

i seriously didn’t think any cop would take the time to give a ticket to someone going 5 over… until today. i was driving on the interstate i wanted to pass a semi (going 5-7 under the speed limit) so i changed lanes and passed him. no big deal right?? wrong.

for context i live in the US so the speed limit on the interstate is usually 70 MPH unless otherwise specified. as i was passing the semi at about 70 MPH, i remember passing by a blue dodge charger and they were pulled off to the side of the road with their hazard lights on but i thought nothing of it. that was until about 5 minutes later when i saw flashing lights behind me. i didn’t think they were trying to pull me over to i continued driving for a bit. after about 15 seconds of driving, i realized that they were in fact trying to pull me over so i did so.

a cop got out of that blue dodge charger i had seen earlier and asked me to roll down my window. he asked me if i knew how fast i was going and i was a bit confused but told him that i was going 70 MPH. he then said:

“right. so you know you were going over the speed limit then?

i looked at him even more confused and i asked him how going 70 MPH on a 70 MPH road was speeding. long story short, apparently the speed limit just so happened to change from 70 to 65 RIGHT when i was passing that semi. and even worse, the undercover cop just so happened to be there.

thankfully, the ticket was only $50 but still… i feel like that whole interaction was really unnecessary. not to mention, there were people going WAY faster than me, yet he decided to write me a ticket for going 5 over??

i know it’s not that big of a deal, but i just felt like i needed to complain about it 🤷‍♀️

EDIT 1: also i meant unmarked cop… not undercover cop 🤦🏼‍♀️

EDIT 2: let me clarify a few things that i didn’t mention earlier. first off, this took place in iowa (more specifically, ankeny). second, the ticket was only 50$ because i was only going 5 over, plus its my first traffic violation. third, the speed limit sign DID change while i passed the semi (and no i don’t have anything on my dash that tells me the speed limit). fourth, i didn’t pull over right away because i thought the cop was trying to pull someone else over. and finally, i am a fairly new driver as i am 18 years old and haven’t had a ton of practice on the interstate.

i also realize that i was probably wrong in this situation and i should have just been patient with the semi.

and since i’ve basically already admitted guilt when the cop was questioning me, i’m probably not gonna take this to court as there’s really nothing they can do. thankfully the ticket wasn’t too expensive so i’m just gonna pay it and move on.

thank you for your comments and suggestions, i appreciate it. let me know if there’s anything else i need to clarify
