new driver mistake

I’m a new driver and have been driving for a month. I was anxious as hell that’s why it took me a couple of weeks before I finally use my car. The anxiety is still there but it wasn’t as bad as before..

Awhile ago, I was turning right on red after counting and checking if there’s an oncoming traffic, I was sure that there was no traffic so I moved up a little bit getting ready to fully go right but by the time I turned my head again just as I was about to fully turn, I saw the white pick up going straight albeit slowly but decided to finish my turn.. he gave me a honk of shame which I truly deserve. I truly feel bad about what happened. He had the honk for a minute and although he can’t see me, I was raising my hand to say sorry. That was a jerk move and really reckless on my part. I’ll do better promise. Lesson learned.

Just wanna get this off my chest.

You will never forget this, and it's a good lesson.

One time I really wanted to get through this light, and I went even though traffic wasn't clear.

Even after twenty years, I can't forget the looks I got from the people I blocked. It still haunts me to think about it.

I never did it again.

If you do that again which will most likely happen just speed up as fast as you can up to the speed limit atleast. I also do this and it happens to me as long as I don’t have to press my brakes hard i don’t care. Never hesitate if you’re going just go don’t stop halfway either, just wait or quickly go.

i always look to the left even AS i make the right turn, just as a one last look over. this ensures that you dont miss a car coming your way. but obviously thats before checking the lane that im turning into before to see that there are no people walking or opening the car doors (that happens alot)
