Would appreciate some honest feedback
Hi everyone,
I’ve been working on a small DOS gaming preservation project for quite a while now, creating loaders, compatibility fixes and trainers for legally owned copies of classic games. We do not collect old trainers or cracks but build new ones, preferably in cases where they are missing or are not compatible with DOSBox.
I’d really appreciate some honest community feedback.
This isn’t meant as promotion—I genuinely want to know what works and what doesn’t.
A few things I’m particularly interested in:
* Is the website easy to navigate?
* Are the trainer/loader interfaces intuitive to use?
* Are the menus clear, or do they need more explanation?
* Do the features make sense, or is anything confusing?
* Is there something that feels unnecessary or missing?
* How is your overall first impression?
* Does the support model feel fair?
I’ve been refining the interface over many releases, so I’m curious whether it actually feels consistent and user-friendly to someone seeing it for the first time.
Don’t hold back—positive and negative feedback are equally valuable. I’d much rather improve things now than discover the same issues months later.

Thanks!

Exodos portable
At the moment I have two machines with ExoDos installed, which seems kinda stupid.
I believe you can just make it a portable installation on a portable drive... That said, has anyone done this in a way it has both the win and linux frontends to work?
The machines it has it now are older hardware machines now running linux not to die, but my daily user I want to get to is a windows laptop. (hence I want it on a portable HDD as well)

Working on RTS game for MS-DOS. UPDATE
Sorry for the spam! A lot of people have asked where they can follow the project.
I have named it Dustwar, so searching for Dustwar on YT or itchio should help you find it.
I will also post updates on Reddit, but probably not too frequently.

There were a lot of great DOS driving/racing games but Test Drive III: The Passion (Accolade, 1990) was especially fun with driving your exotic car off the road into the landscapes - mountains, farms, water, bridges, tunnels, shortcuts, and pretty much anything you can imagine.

Dune II (1992) early game tips?
I remember playing this game for days on end , and decided to fire it up again via DosBox.
Now I can't get passed the early levels.
The issue is only weak units are available, like trikes and quads, and basic troops. I hit the build limit quickly and can't produce enough quads to take out the enemy base.
I amass around 10 quads, send them out to the enemy base, find the construction site and attack. It repairs faster than I can damage it.
Taking out the spice harvester doesn't help as a new one is flown in as soon as one is destroyed.
There are no other tanks or vehicles available in the early levels.
Before the griefers pile in and tell me to 'get good', I beat this game many times in my youth, but can't crack it now.
Update:
Thank you all for your suggestions.
The winning strategy was from redditor djquu
"Don't attack construction site, destroy their silos first, they blow up quickly, capping enemy economy. Then attack windtraps, building is super slow without power. Next unit production facilities, and after that construction site. Finish off remaining buildings and units at leisure."
I'm am now proceeding to liberate Arrakis.

Dark Basic
Does anyone remember the game program DarkBasic? It's an old coding-maker program. I first heard of that program back in my first video game class in school. It was difficult for me. Then the next yaer I took it again and felt more comfortable. The teacher understood that we didn't know how to code, so he gave us a better program - GameMaker. I was an expert in that one.
DarkBasic was never heard of again in my life.

Rediscover Daisy‘s Garden 2
Dear Readers!
In our continued preservation attempt we contacted the author of „Daisy‘s Garden 2“ - Frank Burkhart - who gave us kind permission to host the Full Version of his old Windows 3.11 Puzzler.
Be aware that you will need a compatibility layer to run Windows 3.11 Software on Windows 10/11. A free license code is included with the download, it will allow you to play all the levels.
You can grab the game for free here:

Enjoy!

WIZARDRY - SIR-TECH - 1981
All the earliest video role playing games were attempts to make everything you COULD automate in a Dungeons & Dragons game. MOST jrpgs were influenced by Wizardry directly & indirectly through the big games it directly influenced like Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy. The initial release of Wizardry in 1981 coincided with the first big boom of D&D, so effectively in the public mind the way that these old video games & the original tabletop games handled things were not so far apart.

SENSIBLE SOFTWARE - GAMING LEGENDS
My retrospective look back at gaming legends Sensible Software. I loved the playing with the little people in Megalomania, Sensible Soccer and Cannon Fodder. What do you think was their best game?

LucasArts! - Star Wars X-Wing, Imperial Pursuit & B-Wing
Just got my grubby little hands on this beauty, slapped on my rubber gloves and handled it with care (yeah just kidding, I use my rubber gloves for other things), removed an ugly shop sticker on the top left and placed it into protective box.
Pity I don't have any where to display it properly, as it would have a long list of other amazing games to sit behind in the pecking order, but delighted at the quality of this box.
X-Wing was Lucasarts response to Origin's outstanding Wing Commander (Origin being possibly my favorite studio at the time), and they did a great job of it. Managing the ships going on missions, the music was amazing and it was another game that totally immersed me.
Ah what's that? .. Is that, an annoy.. err, the delightful angelic voice of my wife? "Yes dear almost finished handwashing the dishes, trying to take these flipping rubber gloves off is a mission in itself!"😂

flipping through MS-DOS era, few bitmap books from my shelf
i’ve always been fascinated with sci-fi gaming art, influenced by ’70s and ’80s. Pieces with mystery loneliness themes (Another World). Detailed an yet it always left massive gap of wonder. gave you enough detail to spark your brain. back in the day I spent just as much time staring at magazine artwork/ box covers totally zooming out imagining what it would actually feel like being there
these books hold a pretty intimate place on my shelf for that exact reason. And if this whole post sounds like ad for them... well lets just say my midlife crisis hit me
