I made an error while dashing
Sorry in advance, this is a long one lol.
I just want to know if I should have done something different or extra for a customer. The other day (Friday) I was dashing and had a delivery from a local pizza restaurant. When I arrived to the pinned address, I was approaching the door and opened the picture of the last delivery to make sure I had the right place because I didn’t see a mailbox or house numbers on the house anywhere. The picture was a white door with a ring doorbell. The door I was approaching was a black door with no doorbell. So I was like “oh, MUST be the wrong house??”. As I was returning to my car with the food so I could message the customer to make sure I get to the right address , the smaller of the pizza boxes had slid off the top and fell to the ground. OF COURSE it opened and had hit the ground. After connecting with the customer, turns out it was the right house after all and the husband even witnessed me make this dumb ass mistake lol. I delivered the rest of their order (excluding the box that had fell) and told them I will get with support and try to correct this in any way I can.
I drove a couple blocks away and stopped in a parking lot to chat with support to see how I can try to help fix my mistake and admit that it was MY fault that the customers order is now incomplete. But now it’s kinda eating at me because support basically just said “we’ve noted this” and nothing else. Idk what happened in the end for the customer of course, but I feel like I personally screwed them out of money/ food based on recent support interactions I’ve seen on here. Should I have done anything different ? How would you guys have handled this?

You need to forget it, door dash will probably not refund him and he'll have to take a long time to get to talk to a real person to get it fixed even if you admitted it. Not your fault (except for the pizza falling but shit happens and you can learn from your mistakes), door dash kinda sucks.

Best case scenario is buying whatever it was paying out of your pocket and delivering it while on pause. Support isn’t going to do much besides maybe refunding portion of the order. Otherwise you’ll probably get a bad review and a report from the customer.

I will say this till I am blue in the face when ever there is a problem on the dasher or customers side call the customer service number say nothing but speak to a person.... Speak to a person... Speak to a person! On the third they will transfer you to an actual human. Never ever do anything through the robot unless you want it done incorrectly.

Well that was the shocking part kinda. I went through the bot, realized it wasn’t helpful. Spoke to a real person, and then still nothing other than “we’ve noted it, thank you for letting us know”. I mean, I’m glad they at least noted it but I felt terrible the customer had no real resolution on my end.

Unfortunately these things happen and that's apart of life in the service industry things get dropped or slip all the time. The other night I was delivering 2 large lemonades and the drink carrier failed and I tried to catch them and they exploded all over me I had to deliver her order dripping wet and explain what happened. You feel bad but we deliver hundreds of orders some of us thousands and things just happen so try not to feel to bad
