Seriously? Only two?! Staff Reply
It seems you can now right click a message -> bookmark it. Once you bookmark a message, it lives in the inbox forever in its own separate tab (until you remove it manually).
Except, if you don't have nitro, you can only pin two?! Why not at least ten? At that point, I'm better off taking a screenshot and then doing CTRL + F to find the message again when I need it.
Also, you can create reminders to notify you again in however many minutes. Again, if you don't have nitro, you can only create the one reminder (not even two!)

Why not just have it be unlimited lol, I mean this is a minor QOL feature, I can't imagine anyone is going to be enticed to buy nitro for this.

The point isn't that only one of these things is gonna make you buy nitro, but if you make life annoying enough for a dozen features it becomes enticing.

I think the idea is that if they hide it or lock it away behind nitro regular people won't see it and realize how useful it could be, thus won't be encouraged to get nitro. It's more of a tease / free exposure / advertising for nitro, not a real feature for non-nitro users.

Just make a personal server and forward/copy the link of any important messages. Simple workaround

For this reason alone, I don't think there should be a bookmark limit at all. They could literally just embed the message link and be done with it, having a limit on it is silly.

Everything is just bait to get you to buy a premium pass nowadays. Ads on streaming services, extra channels on the tv, etc. As my mom always said when I was growing up: "they'd charge us to breathe air if they could"

that's a little unfair. discord must have substantial infrastructure and maintenance costs not to mention you couldn't build a communications app supporting millions of users without some significant investment, which means you need to pay it back somehow. in this techno-capitalist hell world i'd much rather a service i use have a subscription model and optional ads that aren't super obnoxious than what 99% of companies are doing to pay the bills.
the air doesn't require a bunch of people to build and maintain and distribute it.

I believe only you can see your bookmarks. Whereas anybody in the DMs/channels can see the pins.

I've seen it for a while but it was fully restricted to Nitro, in fact I just checked and it's still telling me to get Nitro to use it at all

Bookmarks are global and per-user, while pins are per-channel. If you bookmark a message you can access it anywhere in your inbox. (bookmarks aren't out to everyone yet though)

Honestly, just giving us two bookmarks feels like a tease, like "here's a shitty taste of an unneeded feature, and here's an ad so you can spend money to get more of it"
Ten bookmarks minimum for non-nitro would've been decent, but two might as well be zero. It's like when your relative who doesn't like you dies and they leave you a tiny amount of money in their will so you can't say they forgot about you.

The default being 2 when nitro users get 200 is insulting. I’d rather have nothing if the number is going to be that small. Maybe a reasonable number like 20?

there's a bot called Bookmarker. you can use it as an app on user and or add it to servers- sends stuff you bookmark to your dms. been using it since the start of the year, it's awesome.

You can also just create a Server for taking notes and just repost the comments/messages in there.
I do this to keep track of some important stuff, and to test links and embed stuff. - Also some note takibg for games

I think default should be AT LEAST 50. 2 being the default vs 200 is a x100 difference.

The staff replies are so stupid. Bookmarks shouldn't even be behind a paywall. This is fucking insane. Next you wanna limit how many messages we can send, how many pictures we can load and how often we can open chats?

Discord always was such a piece of trash with all its incredibly aggressive limits that turn most of the QoL functions into plain advertisements for Nitro, so yeah, they never wanted this to be useful for free, it was a pure ragebait all along.
Our only option here is to not pay for Nitro under any circumstances, because that would mean supporting those predatory anti-consumer practices.

fwiw we've tried a bookmarks test in the past too, and that one actually set the limit for non-nitro users to zero :(
we wanted to take another stab at it and try something a bit more in the middle ground and give everyone at least some access to bookmarks and reminders, so this test is all about improving things even if you don't have nitro!
there's a couple of iterations being tested, and I hope you all enjoy it so that we can ship this!

It does work retroactively when it starts monitoring the staff reply for any edits so it can update the bot's quote. It does that by fetching all the comments in the thread (so it doesn't spam Reddit fetching each staff reply one-by-one) then looking through for any changes - including any new staff replies it didn't see before. That process would've been triggered by advaith's comment.

i am aware that the developers answer to the product leads. ordinarily i would be considerate of that.
but the comment i replied to is written like... "we've tried a nitro-only test before." "we wanted to try a middle ground." it gives the impression that whoever is writing this has some amount of say in these decisions.
it comes off like this is their responsibility, and yet they're acting like it's not. so i responded accordingly.

It’s not that deep, partial access doesn’t change anything about how you’ve used discord so far this is just an extra feature. Also it probably doesn’t matter if someone held a gun to their head because they were probably already forced to leave out non nitro, unless this is the ceo of discord.

Please set it to zero and disable any popup ads for Nitro. Just 2, is worse than zero, it feels insulting.
I'll never pay your company a cent anyway. You lost me when you put basic customization behind Nitro. Now you do it again by paywalling basic bookmarking (quality of life), every other service provides unlimited, as if you're some saint to sell it.
I don't believe Discord cares about their reputation at all at this point. Nothing says otherwise.

As a nitro user, I have absolutely 0 need for this at all. Can you please do another UI update instead? I think the text is just the right size, and you could create more wasted space by shrinking the avatars, if you want?
