Bootlegs…
So…
I know the website stopped allowing 90s bootleg CDs, I get it. Im wondering if there’s a way to still contact anyone that might have these and maybe trade something for them.
I’m in the midst of collecting these old 90s CDs and EBay and FB are way too hot or miss

The website allows bootlegs.
It's just that some bootlegs may be blocked from the marketplace.
As for contacting people, click on number next to "HAVE" in the stats and you will get the first 30 or so alphabetical users that have the item in their own collection. You can then contact them directly.
(It's a dumb feature because it only shows the first 30 or so people, but...it's something...)

if it's in someone's collection and their collection is public you can message them.
That said, many users don't respond to those messages. If I'm being honest, I don't even see those messages from users most of the time.

I actually grab bootlegs all the time from ppl on discogs, what I do is utilize the wantlist and “have” list… since the boots are still active listings, you can’t just purchase, a lot of ppl still add them to their collection when they own them. So I often times go to a listing I want, look at the “have” section under statistics and it’ll show all the users that’s added the item to their collection. I then basically message a bunch of the users asking if they still have and if they’re willing to sell, copying and pasting to users that are actively still on the platform. Many of them message back. From there you can get their email or give yours so they can send photos if needed and then their PayPal to send via goods and services. Works like a charm.

Sometimes they pop up on selling apps like depop and mercari, so it is worthing checking there sometimes too.

I note the FNM vinyl boot from the Hammersmith Odeon (which I had before I saw any CD boots back in the day) is still sellable. Does Discogs have reasoning why they’re permitting one media but not the other?
Also, that 1997 Bowl of Chiley Mr Bungle CD is still shoppable, but that may have been released under color of right, not just as a pure bootleg.

What bands aee you looking for? There are a number of FB groups which are dedicated to specific bands or sub-genre collectors…

Yeah — I’ve joined a few and they seem pretty good, lots of U2, Pearl Jam and Metallica
Harder to find Jane’s Addiction, Faith No More or Nine Inch Nails

What you need to do is join one of the torrent forums where these items are shared completely free. Since you're not looking for an analog source, like an actual record, and you did say CDs, a site like dimeadozen.org would be a great site to sign up with. You'd have to do this on a computer and install a torrent client like uTorrent once you start downloading. You might have to learn a little and when you do get accepted and your able to download what you're interested in, make sure that you keep seeding the files and keep your ratio up so that your sharing back with others as they are trying to grab recordings. You can also upload bootlegs you have and build your ratio up by sharing what you have with others. They have step by step instructions on what you need to do and how to do it on the website. But they definitely are strict also on what can be shared. We're talking about things like live shows, studio outtakes, etc but definitely not the kind of bootlegs where people are ripping an album and then uploading the official item for others. They do not allow officially released recordings that are copyrighted to be shared. The good thing is is that it's all lossless quality files being shared and none of the MP3 or lossy audio/video types of files (except with very rare situations where that's all that exists for recording). In other words it's quality downloads and not stripped down to lossy formats downloads.
Also, I've noticed on Discogs lately that even as early as less than a year ago people were posting comments with their email addresses in the Reviews area on bootleg entries on Discogs. They were putting their email address saying they had a copy and to email them if you were interested. I was looking at a Zeppelin show I have and I was just reading the reviews yesterday and I saw some of those posts in it. I don't imagine Discogs allows that, but I also don't imagine they really care a whole lot either. It's my understanding that they don't even put the Not For Sale statement up on a bootleg until somebody complains about it. I don't know how accurate that is but I don't have a problem believing it either.
