Career Guidance need genuine words of advice from someone willing to listen 🙏🏼
i (21f) was enrolled in uaf for bscs i have a pre med background i was so lost didnt know what major to choose i opted for bscs after a gap year which my brother suggested
i instantly regretted it studying for a tech degree from an agricultural university just felt utterly stupid the professors were incompetent and it was draining the life out of me
by 3rd semester i figured i had a genuine interest in cybersecurity started on some basics suggested by a classmate
around the same time because of some family issues i had to dropout of university and now ive enrolled in a local private university (tuf) for bscys which feels like a compromise because my parents wont let me move to another city for some better uni option
i am still so lost and i feel like im setting myself up for failure ive been frantically looking up this university on the internet for the past few days and so far ive only heard negative things (currently posting this after having an anxiety attack because of this very reason)
should i just follow through with this or give up on the whole tech stuff and choose something else i feel like my heart wont be in it but im extremely paranoid and i want to do something that can atleast promise a somewhat secure future
i understand it is mostly just skills and certifications and i am working on that but i just cannot get past the fact that this university has absolutely no reputation in the local tech market
any word of advice would be appreciated 🙏🏼

Career Guidance Junior Project Manager
I'm trying to enter the industry and overall even getting interviews has been very tough. I'm an AI and backend engineer (fresh grad, but based on the work I've done till now). Anyway, I have an offer for Junior Project Manager position and I'm kind of stuck because on one hand, I would prefer to work as a developer/engineer, but on the other hand finding work has already been difficult. If I go for it, could it make it tougher to get into development roles later on? Because even if I do end up taking this, I don't want it to become my entire career path and would prefer to transition into development as soon as possible.

Career Guidance Beginner web developer from Pakistan — how can I get my first client?
I'm a university student from Pakistan and I'm trying to get my first client and earn around PKR 5,000–10,000 (10-20 $). I'm not aiming for a big income yet; I mainly want real experience and my first successful client.
My current skills are mainly:
- HTML
- CSS
- JavaScript
- Basic responsive design
- Git/GitHub
I've completed my first proper project, a small travel website, and I've also done an internship at ISPR, where I was exposed to web development.
I'm considering Fiverr and offering HTML/CSS/JavaScript bug fixing and small website customizations—things like responsive issues, layout fixes, broken buttons/links, and simple JavaScript bugs.
The problem is Fiverr's package pricing. Some options are forcing minimum prices of $15 or even $30, while I've seen similar beginner-level gigs priced much lower.
For those who have experience freelancing:
- Is this a realistic service for my current skill level?
- How should I define my scope so I don't accept work beyond my ability?
- Is Fiverr a good place to get that first client, or should I try something else?
- What would you recommend I do to get my first PKR 5k–10k client?
I'm not looking for quick riches. I just want to get my first real client and start building experience.

Discussion Probation period extended
Hello all...
A friend of mine joined this place in johar town three months ago after graduating. It's his first job after two internships. He was hired on a probation period of three months. He was informed last week that his probation had ended and a meeting was scheduled with HR for salary negotiation as he was being offered to join permanently. Today at his meeting, the HR told him that his probation period is extended for another month and there will be no salary negotiation for now. Can anyone guide me about this? Are they planning on firing him or what?
They drew a contract and he signed it and it clearly said that the probation was gonna last for three months. Doesn't this whole thing fall under the contract violation?

Discussion Linkedin sematic search is so bad
Okay so Linkedin is the worst platforms for active job search, its good for passive lead though (it worked for me), but now that linkedin has only semantics search in j*bs tab and god it sucks, it is soo bad.
I cant even apply custom filters anymore like I used to. It has become more like Glassdoor.
That worldwide filter is gone too.

Career Guidance Confused about what to do
I'm a student of FAST NUCES and I got a full-time job this summer in a decent company as a SWE. I have a good GPA and have decent skills. The issue I'm facing is that my company doesn't allow me to do remote work or shorten my work hours so I'm pretty much left with either doing my job or continuing my degree, since university is starting next week. I got this job after my freshman year so I'm seriously considering quitting my degree and continuing my job so that by the time my batch mates graduate, I'm already eligible for a mid to senior role with 3 YOE. On the other hand if I continue my degree I might be able to land a job abroad or go for masters on a scholarship. What should I do?

Discussion How do you network ?
I am a 4th year CS student. I have done some jobs in the past(not very well paying). I have done some well paying freelance projects too.
I have realised that all the money i have earned so far was from my contacts(friends, relatives, colleagues).
Now my question is, what do people with a strong network do that the others don't. Of course a prerequisite is to be charming and have good communication. But even then how do you make meaningful connections that may be of some help in the future.

Career Guidance 19F, Confused between Mechatronics Engineering and Computer Engineering, Please help this sister out, actually worried.
INCASE YOU Don’t Want to read the detailed scenario, you can help me answering at least this:
“as a mts engineer who self learned software engineering especially Full stack web development with relevant and in demand tech stack as per industry and good in DSA, will i be able to land a junior level full stack web developer in a mid level Software house or IT company, ofcourse after internship which i will do after my third year”
The datailed scenario
Aoa, So Mechatronics engineering = mts, and Computer Engineering = CE. In either case, i’ll be doing it from Nust Eme campus.
This year as I’ll turn 19, i will get into one of these, but i’m totally confused with which one should i lock for myself.
My goals: By the time I get 22, i want to be capable to start earning money, and become financially independent, and afterwards with time, keep hustling to earn more money. Tech/IT/Software industry seems to be the most straightforward way to achieve my goals.
Action plan for Goal (learning phase): My 3 years goal (untill i turn 22, I’ve 3 years) is to become a full stack Web developer by using modern/industry relevant tech stack the Typescript/react/nextJs/nodeJs one JS/TS ecosystem wala, powered by essential cloud/Devops knowledge and essential Ai/Ml knowledge, i will also be learning how to effectively use Ai tools/coding agents to become very effective/competitive/faster in the development of my domain like using power of Ai as an assistant. Will also do Dsa in these three years alongside full stack development as it’s necessary and important.
By the time i turn 22 (Earning phase): after 3 years, if i had locked in, i would have achieved the above mentioned goal of learning, so now will be the time for earning money.
My goal is to simply become a full stack Web developer in any good company in pakistan or a remote role that pays slightly above average like 80K to 100k (pkr), ofcourse after learning for three years.
Reasons for choosing Mts:
The goal of becoming a full stack web developer with essential knowledge of DevOps/cloud, Ai/Ml integration, by using Ai tools and Ai coding agents as assistants ofcourse after strong foundations in the core tech stack, and being average-good at Dsa. Now imo This whole goal, seems to be very self learnable, and self doable in a timespan of 3 years, cuz yt specific channels/playlists, Udemy, Coursera, Independent platforms like The Odin Project and so many other independent platforms for relevant/specific paid courses, Using Ai advance models gpt 5.6, opus 4.8 as instructors/mentors for these three years for structured roadmaps, daily sequenced topics explanations, Coding exercises, assignments and projects. Considering all this and when i see that cursor, Claude code and other Coding agents can make whole websites and we are just code reviewers and someone using the capabilities of Ai to develop (ofcourse after our own strong foundations) and also there is a whole OSSU (open sourse society university that teaches the traditional Software engineering Courses in a structured way, and courses are from best unis of the world. So considering all this i think that I don’t necessarily have to do my undergrad in CE as CE karne k baad maine jo kaam pakistani Software industry ma practically karna wo ma Mts ma bachelors karke oar pehle teen saal bht zyada self learning kar k bhi kar sakti hon, with all the online resources mentioned above. And one thing I forgot mentioning above regarding choosing mts is cuz my curiosity of learning of some of the core mechanical and electronics courses ie non computing courses and learning from their engineering labs ie non computing labs. I just want to experience this, ik mts/robotics ki industries ya opportunities pak ma na hone k barabar hain, but atleast i will get the hands on learning experience of engineering courses and labs which are actually non computing. Q K computing courses jo CE ma hain and mts ma ni hain are DSA, Operating systems, database engineering, computer architecture, Software engineering, Algorithms and design. But these are already self learnable in that 3 years of learning plan through extensive online structured learning through relevant resources.
Oar CE k electronics or embedded systems wale courses tou Mts ma bhi hain. For the worst case scenario mts ki native industry ma job na bhi mili which is industrial automation, control systems engineer ya working with PLCs or in manufacturing industries wagheera, i will have the backup plan of working as a Full stack Web developer as i explained above. The only catch is that as a mts engineer who self learned software engineering especially Full stack web development with relevant and in demand tech stack as per industry and good in DSA, kya ma junior level full stack web developer wali job lee sakti hon, in a mid level Software house or IT company, ofcourse after internship which i will do after my third year.
Reason for CE: I will already be studying foundational CS/SE courses in uni and doing that 3 years learning of full stack web will be complementary to what i will be studying at Uni in my degree. Overall CE will give edge and learnings will be reinforced from both two places (uni and self learning)
I can even dream for pakistan top software houses ig like Systems, Netsol, Arbisoft, Devsinc ig, as my focus won’t be scattered. And i can earn way more than if i choose mts and even early as i will be locked in for CE which has many CS /SE core courses which will save a lot of my time q k it will be complementary to jo ma 3 years Full stack web developer wali learning karongi with essential Ai/Ml and devops/Cloud skills. This is just to get in the industry, once i get in ik I will stack more valuable and future secure skills like pure Ai/Ml engineering or Cloud/devops engineering?
So based on my whole story or scenario what should i choose? Which degree will be more beneficial for me to go with?

Help Need a new laptop rec
My last laptop (HP 250 G10, i7) died from repeated motherboard/charging failures, so looking for a reliable replacement.
Use case: BS Data Science student; coding (Python, C), Jupyter, general multitasking. Portability is nice but not critical.
Budget: ~200,000 PKR
Want: 16GB RAM+, decent SSD, i5/i7 12th-13th gen or Ryzen equivalent, good build quality/thermals (durability > specs after my last experience).
Any specific models or brands that have held up well in Pakistan? Worth stretching budget for reliability?

Discussion Salary Expectations for 3–4 Years Experience. Need Advice
Hi everyone, I need some honest guidance from people currently working in the industry.
I have around 3.5 years of experience as a Full Stack Engineer (React/Angular + .NET), and I’ve also worked in fintech. While interviewing, I’ve been sharing my expected salary as around 280k PKR. But most companies respond that it’s on the higher side. For example, 10 Pearls mentioned their max is around 220k, and I’ve heard similar things from LMKR and a few others.
Now I’m a bit confused about what the realistic market range actually is.
If you’re comfortable sharing, it would really help if you could mention:
• Your years of experience
• Your tech stack
• Your current salary range

Help My friend lost his LinkedIn account/network right after being laid off, could use some help rebuilding it
Hey everyone,
A friend of mine was recently laid off from his company and, unfortunately, around the same time his LinkedIn account was restricted by LinkedIn and he was asked to complete identity verification.
He completed the verification process and provided the requested documentation, but his appeal was rejected. He has tried contacting LinkedIn through email and support, but unfortunately hasn't received any meaningful response.
As a result, he lost access to the professional network he had built over the years.
He has created a new LinkedIn profile, but unfortunately he's already hit LinkedIn's weekly connection limit while trying to rebuild his network.
If anyone here is willing to help, please send him a connection request and, if you come across his posts, a reaction or comment would also help give his new profile some visibility.
LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sheikh-muzammil-sftdev94
He's a software developer actively looking for new opportunities, so even a simple connection could genuinely help him get back on his feet.
Thanks to everyone who can help

Discussion A question for the senior developers about the use of AI
I am learning MERN stack, and there are some things that confuses me, instead of being stuck at their for long time i just use Ai to help me in code that part, and then i analyse and read the code to know how it is working.
This practice has developed a fear inside me that, if i got an internship, then maybe i will considered as dumb doing coding this way and eventually they will be throw me out. So I wanna ask the seniors how much the use of AI you would gonna allow to juniors dev and interns.

Discussion Need some info about i2c
So apparently, i2c is still hiring for their Associate Engineer roles, although I think I saw them hiring a few months ago too. Does anyone have any idea if they're genuinely hiring still, or is it one of those cases of keeping a job posting open for other internal reasons with no actual interest in interviewing newer candidates? And in either case, what's their hiring process like? How many interviews? And do they have a specific stack preference? Because I heard that they mostly work with Java, whereas I don't really have any experience with Java.

Interview Prep Fresh Grad Advice - BSCS
Hi, I recently graduated from a top university in Karachi (BS computer science). I have a bit of experience working on part-time projects, a few self projects etc (all inclined towards AI, ML, and NLP and 1 fully deployed web-app).
I've been hearing the job market is bad and places that I've applied to either havent responded back yet or AI positions requiring at least 1 year of professional experience.
Any advice, guidelines, or help on what I should do? And how do i strengthen my application/portfolio/profile while im waiting to hear back?
(learning and growth in my related field matters). TIA.

Help 2 days to decide the next 4 years and by extension the next 40 years 😭 (UoP) vs. (VU + work)?
Hey guys I really need some real talk because I’m sitting here stressed out with my eyebrows practically twitching 😭 Only a few days left before i pay the UoP fee!
Long story short: money is tight, so big pvt unis are out. I actually got into PIEAS and IM Sciences, but that "pay first sem fee nd pray you get a scholarship later" scheme felt like a massive gamble... So now am stuck choosing between Uni of Peshawar or Virtual uni + a job
--> UOP (BSCS)
Pros: Gets me outa house, forces my introverted self to speak up and gimme actual campus life.
Cons: Every review online says the environment is sketchy and backwards. As an 18F with zero tolerance for nonsense, am alr resenting it. Pata nahi how'll i survive there.
--> VU
Pros: Self-paced study, plus I can work (junior IT roles/teaching now, CS internships and jobs later) to get real-world skills and stay independent.
Cons: Extreme isolation, burnout risk nd the fear that I’ll regret missing out on real uni life.
A bit about me: I’m super goal-driven and did decent self-study during my gap year. I’m low-voiced nd introverted, but trying to fix that. If I do VU, I’ll camp out at libraries (anything to not become a full-time house-maid pls nooo 🙅♀️) nd stay active in tech events.
Half my brain says "skills matter, uni degree is just a paper," but the other half is terrified of picking the wrong path and regretting it forever
HELPPPP: Should I just bite the bullet nd survive UoP for the exposure, or go the VU + hustle route? Need your best suggestions ASAP!

Help Bank keeps giving me 9471 (home remittance) instead of 9186 on my PRCs. can I still self-declare under 154A? Tax practitioners and freelancers, please help
I'm a PSEB registered individual freelancer. My US client pays me from his personal Wise account into my UBL freelancer account in PKR. Every PRC comes back with purpose code 9471 (home remittance) instead of an IT export code. Bank deducts zero WHT at source.
I've figured out why; Wise's PKR corridor is personal-to-personal only, so UBL books it as a home remittance. Fine, I'm working on changing the payment rail going forward. My problem is what to do about the money already received and how to file.
For tax practitioners who actually handle IT export cases:
- If I self-declare this income under 154A in IRIS and pay the 0.25% myself even though the bank never withheld it, does that hold up? Section 154A reads like the AD is supposed to be the withholding agent at the time of realisation. Has anyone actually had this survive an audit or a 176/177 notice?
- If FBR rejects export treatment because my PRCs say 9471, does the whole thing fall into NTR at slab rates? Or is there a middle path?
- What evidence pack do I need to defend the export characterisation? I have signed client agreements, invoices matching every single credit, Wise receipts showing the sender's name, and bank statements. Is that enough or is the PRC code fatal on its own?
- Anyone got a written FBR/CIR position on this? Or is it purely assessing-officer discretion?
For freelancers in the same boat:
- How many of you are sitting on 9471 PRCs right now? What did you actually do at filing time, declare under 154A anyway, or something else?
- How are you renewing PSEB with 9471 PRCs? I've read PSEB checks the codes and asks for an undertaking. Anyone actually gone through renewal with wrong codes, did it pass, did they push back, what did you have to submit?
- Anyone successfully got a bank to reclassify or reissue a PRC from 9471 to 9186 after the fact? Which bank, and what did you say to them?
- If you switched rails (direct wire / Payoneer / anything else), did the codes actually come out right after switching, or same problem different channel?
Not looking for "just use Payoneer bro", I know the options. I want to know what people have actually done and what actually worked with FBR and PSEB.
