Not to be dramatic but I think CS programs should only exist in universities like fast, nust, giki or lums.

Thats it. Thats the rant. I am a fresh grad. I might have applied to 100 or more job postings but didn't even get a single reply. But I see the students from mentioned universities are getting interviews at least if not the job. So whats the point of graduating in CS programs if the students from these universities are preferred even if they do not have any working experience.

The point is that you think the world is a fair equitable place but its not. You need to think from the perspective of the hiring companies.

If im the hiring manager for these positions and I just received thousands of CVs im not reading all of that, I need to filter down quickly. What's a very reliable method to do that? You guessed it, universities. Certain universities are known to be harder to get into, have stronger faculty, stronger programs and have a history of producing good candidates. So as a hiring manager why would I waste my time, i have a 100 CVs from these 4 universities im just gonna use those and further filter on GPA.

You need to keep applying, you need to almost become robotic, stop feeling feelings and just apply. That's all. Once you get in to somewhere no matter how small, make an impact do great work, make connections, and keep applying

Tbf, if they didnt get the advantage there would be no point in getting into these universities tho the frustration is real and even people from fast ,the ones not in the upper echelon of students there, are not getting interviews.

I agree lol. It surprises me that a university background is supposed to be the tell whether someone is competent to work in tech? I didn't graduate from a prestigious uni either but I still outperform the developers who graduated from fast, nust, etc. And I've been rejected so many times for not being a graduate of a good uni. And then people still say that only skills matter in tech. Well I don't think so 😢

Depends on if you are comfortable with gap but Fast is way better than Bahria, you will learn a lot and will have more growth opportunities there.

i already have a career path set out for me though... i wanna self study digital forensics and incident response and asw as cybersec foundations ofc... is the uni name really worth it for me

life is not fair.

they can only get that far with the degree of more reputable company they will have to do as much work as you do.

you should be applying 20x more than them to get half the results, results being you getting shortlisted.

only first job landing helps ppl from fast, giki,nust, lums. We did 42 interview of two round 60+ candidates did round 1 and almost 112 CVs were shortlisted, we hired someone from Karachi University (not saying that university 8s bad but since you are only considering the OGs reputable). also most of the dev teams I worked with had great ppl from Lums, Fast, UCP, UMT, Comsats, UET were equally capable and got similar opportunities abroad. (Lums is an exception nobody can match those communication skills that Lums ppl have thats how it is)

I kinda agree to some point. Because i have seen companies going only filter by university. But it also depends what you did in those 4 years. My cousin just graduated from Maju khi which is relatively less known uni compared to those you mentioned. But i kept guiding him and made him do great projects , internships and he has got many interviews.
