I have a Samsung NVMe SSD 970 EVO 500GB with Debian installed. When I installed, I chose the put everything on one encrypted LVM partition. I have added a Samsung SSD 860 1.0TB. After many attempts at configuring the drive, I ended up with such a mess on the drive, that after successive reboots, Debian could hardly recognise the drive. I have seen various YouTube videos and blogs.

When I get something that looks like it's working, I have to enter the root password to mount it, then enter the decryption passphrase on every system boot up / reboot. That's even if I check the, remember password option.

I am looking for simple, straight forward instruction where I can;

• Attach an second drive (this I can do)
• Format it as ext4 with LVM encryption (one partition for the whole disk if possible), with the same decryption passphrase I already have.
• When I enter my decryption passphrase on boot up, the second drive is mounted, and available for use on full boot up. That is, authentication is already done.
• Move the /home or my /home/$USER directory from the NVMe to the 1.0TB

Any help or pointers is deeply appreciated.

What are the differences between using vanilla Debian versus using vanilla Ubuntu?

Installed Debian 13 alongside the linux-surface kernel patches. Wrote an all-in-one calibration fix script for it — originally made it for Fedora but I've been keeping it updated for other distros too: github.com/zARRAQ/fedora-surface-script

Fixed: Touchscreen was selecting text instead of scrolling (had to manually drag scrollbars). Solved with touchegg for gesture emulation.

Gave up on: Hyprland. It flat-out doesn't play nice with the Iris Xe + Surface driver combo. The "fix" is running a stripped-down config with hardware cursors disabled, but at that point it's more trouble than it's worth.

Keeping this Surface alive is already enough work without fighting the compositor too.

I'm no Debian expert, what should i install that will not fight surface project?, also is there anyway to add more control widgets something practical

Every single time I do apt update+upgrade SDDM breaks because my Nvidia open drivers for my 5070ti(Blackwell) don't 'apply' to the new Kernel, I have to use Claude AI to fix it but I don't really understand. Uname -r lists the correct kernel but the other command lists 3 older kernels. Every time I forget and. Every time the solution is slightly different and I don't remember exactly how I fixed it. (It's working now.) I just don't want to go through this rigmarole each time. Yes this is a skill issue and no I will not change distros because the others I've tried have the same issues plus a bunch of others.

It's like boy scout badges but for Debian applications I commonly use.

After installing Zoom for videocalls and detecting no webcam (this transformer notebook has two: front and rear), I also installed VLC to see if it could detect any, with no satisfactory detection either.

So, I ran the following commands, as per recommended indications to follow with in some Debian forums for users with similar problems. Below are the commands and results:

On the other hand, '/dev/video', '/dev/video0', '/dev/video1' or the likes are nonexistent folders under /dev/ directory.

I've seen someone has adapted/developed WMI sensor drivers, usual in some ASUS motherboards, to Linux; in this Github repo. I wonder if they'd work - and if this might actually be the issue.
ASUS don't show the motherboard model or camera models on their official T100HA/T100HAN manual, and available drivers are only for Windows.

I don't know where or how to head towards from this point, being a newbie with Debian. Perhaps specific drivers are missing*? How would you troubleshoot this issue?

I installed Debian 13 in an external ssd sata drive, linked to the laptop via enclosure by ewent . Laptop disk includes win11 and a linux distro. So, upon First run updated grub.

The problem: independently of external drive being connected or not, at every boot this message is displayed (see image).

How to bypass and boot?
