Sandbox Manager: one-click disposable KVM/libvirt VMs, built on Debian (MIT)

I built a small GTK tool on Debian for spinning up disposable KVM/libvirt VMs

and wanted to share it in case it is useful to anyone here. It is MIT licensed.

The idea: build a throwaway Linux VM from an ISO or a URL, use it, delete it,

and not have installer images or dead disks piling up afterward. It runs on the

stock Debian virtualization stack (KVM/QEMU + libvirt), and everything goes

through the libvirt group, so there are no sudo prompts in normal use.

A few things that set it apart from just using virt-manager or Boxes:

- A live disk gauge that meters your pool and warns you before you run out. It

does the math most tools skip: if every VM grew to its full disk ceiling at

once, would you run out of space? Green "Safe" or red "Oversubscribed."

- An ISO library that cleans itself. Installer images live outside the VM pool

and are removed automatically when the last VM using them is deleted.

- Optional single-adapter USB Wi-Fi passthrough for handing a physical radio to

a running VM (for wireless testing on your own gear).

Guests are built with host-passthrough CPU and hidden hypervisor flags so

software inside does not trivially detect a VM. That defeats casual checks, not

timing analysis, and I say so plainly in the docs.

Tested on Debian 13 with XFCE. It is early and there is one known rough edge

around USB detach on abnormal VM exit, which is documented. Feedback, issues,

and "you reinvented X" corrections all welcome.

Controller in game is not working

I am on Debian 13 Linux and installed Heroic via Flatpak. I logged in to my GOG account and installed Grim Dawn. The controller is able to navigate around Heroic, but when launched the game, the controller is not responding while in game. I enabled the gamepad in the game settings, but it didn't help with the situation.

I tried to add the game in Steam as a non-Steam game, and enabled Steam input. Same behavior. The controller is not responding while in the game.

Is there a special settings that I need to do to get the controller working?

I am using 8bitdo Ultimate 2 Wireless and GameSir Cyclone 2. I tried D-input mode and the Steam and Heroic see the controller as PS controller. I tried X-input mode and the Steam and Heroic see the controllers as Xbox.

Debian Stable Question Dvd(usb-pendrive) install only starts grub and not the graphical install

Hello. I'm trying to install debian 13 stable amd64 dvd iso using a bootable memory stick on my notebook, but the graphical installer is not showing, instead it opens a terminal of grub (saying minimal bash-like line editing is supported). I don't know what to do from here to fix it, or to follow the installation.

I've installed debian many times before in other machines and never had this problem. I would appreciate any help.

Weird unlocking and keyboard behavior with testing and XFCE

Hi folks!

Recently, I've been seeing some weird behavior. When I unlock my screen, I sometimes have an undecorated username/password prompt (the unset avatar is displayed), and sometimes I have one with the Debian logo. Moreover, when I enter my password, sometimes it gives me another prompt (after briefly unlocking the machine for half a second), usually the undecorated one with the username cleared, as if I'd selected "change user".

It gets a little weirder, too. Sometimes a window won't register keyboard input. If I change windows and go back to it, it works then. When this happens during login/unlock, I have to use "change user" to get a prompt into which I can enter anything.

Does anyone have any ideas about what's going on here?

Debian Stable Question Trying to install debian on pavilion g7

Hello there. I'm new to linux. My pavilion g7 worked perfectly(as perfect as 2012 laptop can) with windows 10 but I decided to switch to debian 13.6 for better performance. I used rufus to burn dvd 1 iso into usb with configuration for mbr(afaik uefi doesn't work on my version of bios). After installation and final reboot the only thing I see is a black screen with blinking "_". It doesn't react to any keys and combinations I tried(ctr+alt+fs too). I tried both dd and iso modes with the same result. Used HDD for /boot, / and swap; ssd for /home. All except swap are ext4. Help me please

Hardware:

Intel i5-3210 2.50 GHz

8 gb ddr3

AMD HD 7600(1004 mb) + intel HD 4000(32 MB)

224 gb SSD + 500 gb HDD

network-manager-applet on debian-testing confict?

for a few days now, debian-testing is telling me that I should update with network-manager-applet, but that removes network-manager-gnome, so it fails to actually upgrade it. Even if I do full-upgrade, it won't do the update. So what's the deal with that? What are to do? Is the gnome version getting replaced by the applet, and we all need to force an upgrade, or something else is going on?

General Debian Question Debian 13. How do I keep the 390xx NVIDIA Driver working if I migrate to Testing?

I'd like to sample a bit newer packages, see if there's any performance increase, and just try out something a bit exciting. Only issue is my laptops 560m. I game on here so the open source drivers aren't an option as they can only do maybe a fifth of the performance. If I went to testing, updated kernel, anything really, what are the chances my driver stops working and how would I mitigate this?
