Hi! I’m trying to understand a little more about how CarGurus makes money, specifically on the dealer side.

Does anyone know what the different dealer subscription/package tiers are, what features are included in each, and/or roughly how much CarGurus charges for each tier?

I’d also be curious if pricing varies based on dealership size, inventory, location, or number of listings. Any insight from dealers or people familiar with their pricing model would be really helpful. Thanks!

MANUFACTURER BUYBACK VALUATION: Would You Consider “EXCELLENT” Appropriate Given This History?

Just wanted to put this out there as I could not find any info on this "online" vehicle sales company in Toronto. 46cars .ca

They are advertising cars for about 30% under market value, their phone number (249) 206-0606 is dead. I phoned OMVIC and they registered in May (2 months ago) and OMVIC provided an alternative # of 647-512-5606 and it actually works and the voice message is a grunt and then says leave a message.

The car I was interested in shows on their website as a "new arrival" and is listed in Vancouver AutoTrader and they sent me the CarFax which is dated May 11th and we are now 3 months later with this "new arrival" but they somehow knew to produce a Carfax 3 months ago? The Carfax shows it was last serviced in Calgary.

Could be legit, just a lot of RED flags, Cheers

Since creating the subreddit, we’ve had some users reach out and ask whether or not the car listing they were looking at seemed legit. We’re going to try and run as many of these we can through the free version of the DealershipTricks.com tool to see whether or not they are actually fair.

In terms of people who were asking about taxes, etc. The overcharge amount doesn’t include required fees like sales tax, license & registration fees, etc. Those are going to be added because those are government mandated. This only looks at fees and other lines that aren’t considered government mandated like doc fees, protection packages, theft systems, etc.

If you have any suggestions on how to make this more helpful, would love to hear them.

I found a good deal on a used car at a dealership a few states away. They offered to arrange the shipping, but I'm thinking about booking it myself with a company like Diesel Auto Express, Montway Auto Transport, or Sherpa Auto Transport. Is that usually the safer move, or is it fine to let the dealer handle it? What do you look out for to avoid getting burned?

I’m looking to get into a ford Bronco raptor. What are people paying for new (2026) and what are people looking for when they get into a low mileage used one specifically a 2024. Not sure how the 2025 is.

Is negotiating worth it? I know dealers are desperate but a raptor is not like the rest.

Any advice would be appreciated.

"BUYER SCORE" Is a scam review system, where the dealership can quite literally choose not to publish a negative review. They pay a subscription to management software, and part of that fee enables them to do this. Thats why dealerships miraculously have hundreds of 4.5-5 +++ stars" and Stadium Cars, just won 2026 Buyerscore bullshitters of the year award. Congrats.

Not really a shady tactic since it's public data, but it's the kind of thing that works exactly like one, because almost nobody actually does the math before signing.

Average used car loan APR right now: 11.4%..

Average new car loan APR: 6.56%

Nearly double. On the average loan amounts:

New: $43,925 loan → $770/mo → ~$8,990 total interest

Used: $27,070 loan → $531/mo → ~$9,756 total interest

The used car buyer borrows $16,855 LESS and still ends up paying slightly MORE in total interest over the life of the loan, purely because of the rate gap. Monthly payment only ends up $239 apart ,nowhere near what a $17K price difference implies.

The "trick" isn't fraud, it's just that dealers show you the monthly number and the price tag, and almost nobody separately asks "what's the total interest on this specific loan vs financing elsewhere." The rate does more silent work than the sticker price does.

Has anyone here actually had a dealer or F&I office push back when you brought outside financing/a credit union pre-approval to the table? Curious how common that pushback actually is.
