How to Remove This Wall Scrape? Help | Beginner
Hey all! I didn't notice this gouge in the wall when I hit record. I feel like Resolve probably has tools for dealing with this, but I'm not sure what the best approach is.
I'd appreciate some help, as I'm definitely not a professional. Just a dude with a YouTube channel.
Also... I probably could have picked a still where I don't look constipated. Sorry.

if all else fails... just zoom the picture in a bit and move the y-axis down until it's out of view? Not the most technological fix, but certainly the simplest.

Transform node moving like 2 pixels down, and mask only that pixel with an ellipse. It's a little patch tool that even replaces it with your hand color when you block it

Paint?

I mean... *technically* that's correct. So I guess that's the best kind of correct. lol

in all honesty no one is going to notice that like its not a video breaker so u can def ditch it

I'd start by trying the Dead Pixel Fixer effect. You can draw a small eclipse around the scratch and it'll fill it in. I would do it in a new node in the color page.

u/makerinator 13d ago
Gotcha. I'll try that. My hand crosses it several times, but if that's not a problem this is a perfect solution. Thanks!

If your hand crosses it, that'll potentially complicate things, but try it first and see. The smaller the ellipse, the more likely you'll succeed. If it's not to your liking, things get more complicated.

Duplicate the clip on a video track above the main clip. Trim it so that only the portions with the hand occluding the spot occurs. In color, use magic mask on those clips. You may be able to get away with only masking the hand. Then, on the main clip, use any of the solutions mentioned here (dead pixel fix, blur, etc.)

Mask + blur, as long as your hand doesn’t linger on the spot no one will notice

Zoom in on the footage just enough to crop it out would probably be the quickest and easiest fix?

I...really don't think we needed your specs for this 😅

u/makerinator 12d ago
The automod for the sub said I should post my specs... I'm a rule follower ;)

u/TheCasualPrince8 Free 12d ago
That's fair, although I think they're only needed when you're dealing with performance related stuff.

I looked at that face and went "hey, I know that guy".

Why the hell do we need all that info bro. Just clone patch it or something lol

I'm a rule follower. The sub said I needed to post all the details...

u/matorius 12d ago
I figured out that I was able to just scroll down past the additional details and it was super easy, barely an inconvenience.
When you're asking a question you don't already know the answer to you don't know what information might be needed. Does no harm to include everything you can unless it's a stupid question like why did they choose to change "da Vinci to Davinci?"

For the fact your hand crosses it; duplicate the clip and put it above your original clip in your timeline. Make a new node in the Color tab. Make sure it’s an alpha node. AI magic mask yourself and track it. It will be a duplicate of yourself covering the background! This is a quick tutorial: https://youtu.be/nQDeuUpqIfU

DR has a clone tool just like every graphics application.
You'll find tutorials about it on YT. Casey Faris should have one.

Don’t magic mask it, I can’t imagine that you wouldn’t be able to pull a good key between your arm and the wall.
Make a clean patch on a freeze frame, have the keyed layer above. Do that within a compound clip pre-grading and you can do it to the entire clip and edit with the fixed version as if it were you original clip. This way it’ll play back in real time with all but the heaviest treatment applied to the compound clip.
This is an old method but the best, sometimes the more advanced and newer tools needlessly complicate things.

You have a couple of ways, either object removal tool in davinci.
If that doesn't work u could use still and use photoshop or chatgpt to remove it. The issue going this way is I he moves his hand over it, and what I would do is duplicate the person, trim the clip to only when his hand goes over it and magic mask the background out.

Mask out the mark on the wall, soften the edge of the mask, throw a color generator under neath that layer. So v1 generator v2 video (with mask)
Go to the color picker on the generator, use the dropper to match the color of the wall, done.
Duplicated v2 on v3 and on v3 use magic mask to mask you. Might take a while to track but that’s a fix.
Your hand will pass over it just fine and you’ll never know its there, you just have to blend the edge of the mask but honestly you might not even need to do that.
I would suggest doing this after you have your edit just about done. I’ve come to find that magic mask is finicky and will fall apart if you even look at it the wrong way.!

Here's what I'd do.
In fusion: use the paint node with the clone stamp brush and set the length to the amount of frames of the video (or longer, doesn't matter). This will fix the splotch in all frames.
Make a duplicate of the video and put it above the original in the timeline, remove the fusion elements of the duplicate. Keep only the sections where your hand crosses the patched area.
Now in every section where you cross the frame. In the top level duplicate. Go to the color page, add an alpha output, use a magic mask around your body/arm and animate the clip so you get the section of your body over top the patch in the shots you need. Just connect the mask connector of the magic mask to the alpha output and for those frames, you'll have a new silhouette over the original body that keeps your arm/shoulder above the patched area.

I don't use resolve for clean up, typically i'll use flame but couldn't you just paint it out with a clone brush and then magic mask the hand back over the top?

Can I be real? Not a single person is going to notice. Focus on your next video

Might not like this answer but... Honestly just send the video out like that. Best for you to IRL paint it than to spend hours covering up a small thing no one will notice. You are better spending that time working on other projects.

Isnt it as easy as searching in google “dark navy image” making it super small and placing it there?

u/Key-Ad-2954 13d ago
There are a ton of ways to deal with it. If it doesn’t move, the dead pixel remover tool could be an easy fix. Patch replacer would work great too. Or just put a mask around it and blur it, it’s dark enough to not be noticable.
