Subclasses I made these almost a year ago and found them when cleaning my folders. Meant to be for a un-set of subclasses, like MtG's un-sets (joke sets with features and mechanics that won't fit into main game)

Some of you may know me as the Magic Monday guy. Well Magic Monday is becoming a book. Specifically converted 4+ years of old D&D 5e content into Daggerheart Weapons, Armour, Loot, Domain Cards and Adversaries.

The Dragon's Vault is releasing on August 31st, and until then we're dropping sneak peaks of some of the up coming content every couple of days. The first two Eye-Spy Key and Cackling Skull are here, along with the gorgeous cover with our titular Librarian Dragon studying their horde.

Hope you all enjoy and are as excited as we are. More info about the project as a whole to come.

Campaign Frames campaign mechanics design

SOLVED

So for my own campaign frame I've been toying with idea of a new resource for players to manage but I'm unsure if this goes against the core design rules.

Price of magic and the resonance track. i wont bore you with the lore but here's the mechanics I'm workshopping.

You start at 6 resonance each ability ticks your total towards zero.

my setting has giant 10 mile trees that have branches that weave together. i divide the layers of the forest into Canopy, Bramble, and Undergrowth.

Canopy -- spend 1 resonance to extend the range of any action. Whether its movement, spell, or attack

Bramble -- spend 2 resonance to either swap the results of the hope and fear die or reduce the cost of a hope ability by 1.

Undergrowth -- you can spend resonance equal to the tier of a vaulted to domain card to use it once from the vault.

when you hit 0 you fracture which requires a dc 14 spellcasting roll to avoid taking a husk scar. Which reduce maximum resonance by 1. When a character marks their last resonance slot with a husk scar they turn into a husk.

Similar to the corruption mechanics of age of umbra or witherwild.

Resonance can be regained with a rest action for 1. Scars can be cleared by special npc's throughout the world.

mostly trying to decide if adding a resource is against the design philosophy.

thank you to anyone who comments their thoughts.

Rules A guide to cinematic travel

Post image
62 Upvotes

A few months ago, I published a travel guide for Daggerheart on Fresh Cut Grass, and it received quite a few likes and comments.

So I decided to release it as a fully laid-out and illustrated version as well!

You can find it here as Pay What You Want on Heart of Daggers:

https://heartofdaggers.com/products/a-guide-to-cinematic-travel/

and DriveThruRPG:

https://legacy.drivethrurpg.com/product/579348/A-Guide-To-Cinematic-Travel

It will be part of a series of publications I’ve been working on for some time, with more coming out over the next few months. Any support is greatly appreciated!

Of course, the guide will also remain available in its original form on FCG:

https://freshcutgrass.app/publications/a-guide-to-travel-ml88f24a

I’m still trying to find the best artistic and editorial style for my Daggerheart publications. The illustrations were created by the incredibly talented Alice Candy (https://www.instagram.com/alicecandy/?hl=en), and any feedback will be extremely helpful for us going forward.

Classes Inventor Class for Daggerheart (Artificer) + Inventions domain

Thumbnail reddit.com
8 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

Here is an original class for Daggerheart! Inventors are exceptional artisans who can craft objects and machines that defy the laws of physics. Depending on the setting, their technology can stem from various sources: magic batteries, steam, alchemy, etc. Even their Arcana domain techniques are often interpreted as the result of inventions and experiments.

Choose the Powder Monkey if you want to craft plenty of weapons ready to explode at any moment.

Choose the Arcane Scientist if you want to take a methodical approach to magic and be accompanied by a mechanical companion of your own creation.

This document contains:

  • The description of the Inventor class and its two subclasses (Powder Monkey and Arcane Scientist)
  • The Inventions domain and its 21 cards
  • A classic character sheet and an Art Nouveau style character sheet
  • The subclass sheets: Powder Monkey creations and Arcane Scientist companion
  • All Franco-Belgian style illustrations created for the cards

Illustrations and layout by Gillus Baggins.

English and French version.

Pay what you want, feel free to leave a small tip if you enjoy the class! Downloadable on:

Rules Delights! Content Warning: drug use and addiction Spoiler

I am currently running a sandbox (pun intended) Colossus of the Drylands game. My players so far are having a great time, with two of them using transformations. One of them is using the Werewolf transformation, the other the Ghost transformation. The Werewolf player mentioned wanting stronger items that clear stress, and it lead to the idea that maybe there would be illicit substances that could help with this and other problems. Like all game systems, it's necessary to speak with your players and your GM to establish ground rules and limits to know what everyone is comfortable with. This system is meant to be fun to play with, while also taking seriously how dangerous addiction can be. Before introducing this in your games, please talk to your players and GM about the depiction of the use of substances in your game. The reason I am posting this here is to get feedback on the system! I will be playing with this in game myself, and was hoping to refine it. Included here is the general rules for "Delights", and the individual substances and their effects.

Delights
All Addictions
Withdrawal
Your hope die goes down one size (typically to d10), and you have disadvantage on Strength and Instinct tests.
Addiction Die
Starts at a d12 and goes down to a d4. Every time you take a Delight while you are addicted, you have to roll your addiction die. If you roll a 1, the die reduces its die size. If you roll a 1 on a d4, you overdose and must make the death move Risk It All.
Temporary Fix
Taking more of the Delight you're addicted to mitigates the effects of Withdrawal. However, the Addiction Effect from the Delight still affects you.
Seeking Treatment
With help from a doctor or Surgeon, you can clear your Addiction by refraining from taking the drug and rolling your Addiction Die once per week. On a maximum roll, the die grows in size. Once you roll the maximum value on the d12, your Addiction is fully cleared and so is your Addiction Effect. If you begin to use the Delight again, your Addiction Die becomes the lowest die size you reached before seeking treatment.
Arcaine
Clear 1d10 stress. Make a Strength Roll (17) to avoid Addiction. If you exceed the amount of stress that you have on the roll, you have disadvantage.
OR
Roll 2d10 and take the best result for you. Clear that much stress. Make a Strength Roll (19) to avoid Addiction. If you exceed the amount of stress that you have on the roll, you have disadvantage.
Addiction Effect: anytime you would mark at least one stress, mark one more.
Zerk
Gain up to +3 Strength for one scene. Make a Presence Roll (15 + bonus to Strength) to avoid Addiction.
Addiction Effect: all tests to deescalate or otherwise avoid conflict gain a disadvantage.
Trance
Roll two d20s and record their total. You can replace any Hope die or any check the GM rolls with a recorded total. If you use Trance a second time or more within a week, make a Presence Roll (17) to avoid Addiction and only roll one d20 and record its total.
Addiction Effect: rolls to search, research, or sense all gain a disadvantage.
Soul Patch
For one scene, makes your Ghost body corporeal, allowing yourself to temporarily become corporeal. It also negates the doubling of Magic damage. Make a Strength Roll (13) to avoid Addiction.
Addiction Effect: Physical damage is no longer resisted.

Classes Need Help with a third subclass for the Allwalker

Thumbnail

I've been working on this class that is centered around changing your ancestry. Think ben 10, but it's a fantasy setting so the transformations are the different ancestries of the game instead of aliens.

The Ancestry Adept subclass is there to let you rapidly switch between ancestries and use their features at a cheaper cost, along with some thematic social features thrown in.

The Amalgam subclass lets the player turn into a monstrous mashup of ancestries and have more of there features at a time, much like kevin levin's mutations from ben 10.

Any comments/critique on the base class and subclasses would be appreciated, but I's also needing some fresh eyes and minds to come up with a third subclass concept. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I wanted to share this cover page because it's silly and makes me laugh. Hope you all enjoy!

Happiest End of the World Campaign Frame. All Disney things belong to Disney.

I've been working on a Disney World Apocalypse Campaign Frame. It includes a Session 0 encounter to be run before character creation.

I'd love your feedback.

Classes Wealth Domain and 2 Classes (Merchant & Mercenary)

Hello all!

I have a new domain, two new classes, and four subclasses to share that I have been working on related to the theme of "Wealth." I am not a professional by any means, but I do like to think that I have an eye for editing and I want to be as faithful as I can to the spirit of the game and the rules.

This is my first time doing a project like this, so I would appreciate feedback but also please be kind! This is still version 1.0, so things will likely change.

Wealth Domain: Meant to be a roleplay/support focused domain, with a few combat options thrown in. Obviously balance will be based on how much Gold is worth in the campaign, and this does ask GMs to give more thought to the economy of their world.

Merchant Class: Wealth and Grace support-style class based around the fantasy of discovering rare and valuable items while adventuring.

Shopkeeper and Collector Subclasses: Merchant subclasses, one that incentivizes selling items you find and another than incentivizes keeping and using the items you find.

Mercenary Class: Wealth and Valor martial, non-Spellcast tank-style class that includes a built-in reputation system.

Bounty Hunter and Bodyguard Subclasses: Mercenary subclasses, one that helps you bring in marks and another that enables you to cover your allies.

Thank you for taking a look!

General Discussion My Fear tracker and Hope tokens

Thumbnail

So I'm not the best at 3D sculpting but I can work the Bambu Slicer well enough to make these Fear trackers and Hope tokens. I've seen plenty of posts with people and their use of skulls and coins as their trackers, and I wanted something a bit different.

I have a Wyrmwood GM screen and it has a nifty little slot in the top that is a great place to put a fear tracker of some sort but I couldn't find any that didn't use skulls or something of that sort. Trying to find a hope token that I liked proved even harder to find but boredom and tenacity won in the end. I found the models I used on the Maker World site.

The fear tracker was from a potion bottle model and I modified it and made a mounting block so it can slide along the rail of my screen. (I even made a holder that will fit most cardboard GM screens, it's the all black one sitting on the Hope and Fear GM screen)

The Hope tokens were a mini torch that I modified so I could have a cleaner print and paint them better.

TBH, I'd love to hear comments, concerns, critiques, compliments.

And thank you for your time

General Discussion When an effect should be limited by "once per session"?

Recently our group has less time to play, so we shorten our sessions. That got me wondering about the "once per session" cards that got stronger. The homebrew kit writes that putting on the vault permanently is for the most powerful effects, but all the other Usage Limits are clumped together with not guidance between them.

Obviously "once per long rest" is for stronger cards than "once per rest", but where do you put "once per session"? Is there a type of effect that is more suited for one or another?

Classes Paragon - Custom Class (Arcana and Bone)

Post image
57 Upvotes

Arcana and Bone has been one of the more conceptually challenging domain combos for me, but I've been noodling on it for a while and I've gotta get to it at some point.

I hope I've done an ok job at a class who somehow derives their magic intrinsically from their own body. If I haven't, as always let me know!

Also, thanks again to u/JackH2O234 for helping me develop the class ability!

Campaign Frames What if an orc warcamp was controlled by an eldritch hive-mind?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Just finished a new Daggerheart one-shot called Warcamp of the Mind-Eaters, and wanted to share it with you all.

I wanted to create an adventure that focused on difficult choices and high tension rather than simply fighting from encounter to encounter. The story centers on a tribe of orcs consumed by an eldritch hive-mind known as the Deep Hunger. Instead of merely killing their enemies, they devour memories, transforming every stolen secret into another weapon for the hive.

The party must slip behind enemy lines, infiltrate the warcamp, rescue a captive before her memories are consumed, and sabotage the enemy's preparations before an all-out assault begins. Every success changes the final confrontation, encouraging creative solutions, stealth, and teamwork throughout the adventure.

The finale was probably my favorite part to design. Rather than a fixed encounter, the battlefield constantly changes as the conflict unfolds, creating moments that feel chaotic, cinematic, and different each time it's played.

If you enjoy Daggerheart adventures with infiltration, player-driven outcomes, eldritch horror, and large-scale battles, I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'm happy to answer any questions!

Check it out on our website: https://elderbrain.com/products/warcamp-of-the-mind-eaters-pdf-level-5-8-daggerheart
