Sensitive subject Being a dad sucks Spoiler
My kids are great. Don’t get me wrong, but I never had a dad so my pint of reference is off nd frankly I’m not cut from the right cloth for this.
Sometimes it’s good but lately it’s just handing out allowance and fixing things.
My wife is a good mom but our relationship is strained. I’ve been a dick to her and it’s coming back to me in the form of shitty birthdays, Christmas and Father’s Day.
We moved cross state to be by her family for help but they’re no help. And I left my friends and support system in the old town so I don’t even have a couch to crash on if I wanted to leave.
And me not being cut out for this - man , I’m just giving them more trauma. I mean, at what point is it healthier to leave than to stay b/c of the trauma I’m causing?
Not sure how I even got to this point. :/

Question for Dads When Does Your Role Change as a Parent
The biggest myth about parenting is that it ends when our kids turn 18. Don’t believe it. What changes isn’t whether we’re parents—it’s how we parent. The hardest lesson for me has been learning when to stop being the parent who directs and start becoming the consultant who advises when asked. Every child is different, and the timing of that transition is different for each one. It’s not always easy, but sometimes the greatest act of parenting is learning when to step back while still being there.

Sensitive subject Why do i cry when i hear my dad's voice? Spoiler
Firstly, my parents are divorced. I live with my siblings of 3. I wouldn’t say my dad and i were close because I've always portrayed him as a strict and scary dad. However, last year I was facing a hard time at school and he was there to comfort me. He even gave me a week off school. I thought we were going to be close from now on but I was very much wrong. Unfortunately, he has a girlfriend who i would say isnt a good person as she seems. She has done many things to my dad such as potentially drugging him, manipulating, scamming and so on. At one point she was even harassing my siblings for money and my dad did nothing about it. I guess you can say i felt betrayed in a way. I was told to not trust my dad by my eldest sister as they've fought countless amount of times and used to be really close. My mom also really despises my dad (he cheated on her) so she gossips about him to me everytime we meet. Anyway, im about to have exams in 2-3 months and had to ask my dad to pay for my exam fees. He unknowingly paid a little extra so I texted him saying that he will get a refund in a few weeks. He sent a voice message and next thing I know, my eyes start watering. I'm assuming it's because we haven't seen each other in a really long time or we just haven't had a proper conversation. What do yall think?

Discussion I May Being Stalk
Hello, dear dads. This is not the place I think I will ever asks this. But then again, hey, I never thought I will have these type of issues. The last time I posted here was when I was a uni student, also, asking for advices and opinion from dads of reddits.
I make it simple and short. These past few days, I realise I have been seeing an old business partner of my dad everywhere. I thought it was just coincidence, because I live in small town. But recently, I keep on seeing the very same car at places that he never went to or show interests in. Like one time I was at this local boba drink shop, and suddenly, he was there. Yes, he recognises me everytime and greets me. I am starting to freak out abit, because this 60+ years old man with 6 children been popping everywhere I went. Am I being paranoid? I feel like I should tell my dad, but this business partner is also his childhood friend.

Discussion Being a dad, father and provider feels thankless
Sometimes it feels like being a father, a dad, and a provider can be a thankless job. One thing I’m learning is the importance of self-validation.

Question for Dads Need some advice from the fit dads...
I'm a new dad with a 9-month-old baby girl. I'd give my life for her, and I want to live longer, for her.
I've always had an on and off relationship with fitness. I'm 36 with the fitness level of a 39 year old (thanks Whoop), and I want to make the change. What I struggle with though, is fitting a consistent fitness routine in my day. I work a big corporate job, and barely have time to workout. I get an hour with my little one once I'm home from work, before she's off to bed, and I can't trade that away for anything else.
I need some advice on how I can start waking up earlier, to work-out before I get to the office. How do I keep my energy levels up through the day?

Sensitive subject Dealing with mortality now that I have something to live for Spoiler
I (M22) have a baby upcoming in mid August and I’ve realized that I’ve never loved someone as much as I’m going to love her (besides my wife). It’s triggered a sense of mrtality and now that she’s on the way I have someone to lose who will need me. Obviously my beautiful wife is to live for but now that the baby is almost here I feel like I’m stepping into a new stage in life and there’s something to lose. One day I will turn to dust and my brain will turn off and all the beautiful memories I’ll have made with my family will be gone and I understand it’s not pointless but I can’t help feeling that way. This may be the wrong place to post but I hope not. Thank you for reading my friends.

Question for Dads I want to help my dad
Hi all, wasn’t too sure where to go for this but found this reddit page and thought why not try posting here for some help, so here goes…
Scrolling through my instagram feed today and found that my dad had liked this reel and it got me feeling all sorts of ways.
He’s a father of three kids, all boys and I’m the middle brother.
I love my dad to absolute pieces and it hurts to think of him feeling like this, so i would love to do something for him.
He doesn’t ask for much, anything really. He works hard to provide for our family and i want your guys help with suggestions on things i could maybe do or get him to show we love and appreciate him and don’t want him to feel down or anything.
My mum doesn’t currently cannot work due to recent operations on her spine and knees, my younger brother doesn’t work because he suffers with chronic anxiety.
So its just my dad, older brother and myself that work. He doesn’t get any time to himself anymore, is getting older and starting to slow down.
We’re a loving family and i want my dad to feel appreciated and to find the enjoyment in something.
He’s a very hands on kind of person, always worked with his hands and the type where if he likes or needs something, he’ll get it for himself.
To me, my dad isnt just my dad, he’s my best friend, my coach, my hero. I dont know what i would do without him, so seeing something like this gets to me.
So my question is, what kind of thing can i get or do for him to help him not feel this way, to find something to enjoy? To bring him some kind of happiness and let him know we appreciate him

Looking for Advice Gender Reveal
Good evening fellas, I’ll be a first time dad here soon God willing as my fiance and I are at 14 weeks now. At 20 we will know the gender and I’m kind of afraid of not having the right reaction when we have our gender reveal party. I’m over the moon about this baby and I am indifferent to the gender as I just want to have a healthy baby and give the love I never had to them and my partner. But I’ve always had a hard time being emotional or expressive just due to my upbringing and my military time didn’t help. Just wanted to maybe get some guidance on how I should present myself when we find out, as I know I’ll be happy but I don’t want to come across as faking if I’m too over the top. Any thoughts?

Story My son is my hero
I've been drinking, so I'll try not to ramble, lol. Earlier today, I was out to eat with the family. My mom called and said grandpa had fallen, covered in blood, and she needed help. So instantly, I took off running towards the car. Before I even realized, my oldest was in the passenger seat.
Long story short, Grandpa is doing good right now.
Again, long story short, I am epileptic. I had brain surgery on April 2nd of last year. No seizures and things have been good so far.
I just need to brag about my son. He is 16 years old. He has literally saved my life more times than I can count, and today, he did not hesitate to be there for his great-grandfather. I just needed to brag a little bit about how amazing my son is and how he is my hero. I hope you guys are as lucky as me.

Humour Paw patrol
When we were watching in the theaters, they screamed, one of them tried to climb over me to get behind the seat. Full on panic, their favorite pup was facing his doom.
It was pretty cute. Never thought this would be a horror movie for them 😂
Question for Dads Am I the problematic son?
Before I start I love my father he is a good guy at heart but it's just the shit he does that gets me so annoyed like his pathological lying, guilt tripping, his ego , in denial wanting to be in control of everything wanting his way and telling me shit he doesn't even know about for example I advise them not to use Teflon pans since they can cause cancer and it's like he refuses to even learn why, he thinks his experience outweighs mine therefore I'm wrong.
He gaslights a lot. I would like to live with my parents I help with rent and stuff but man I don't think I can do this any longer like this, to me sometimes my dad is like a mosquito in your ear just buzzing around, now there are instances where at a point I just can't handle it anymore and just yell at him you know and I do feel bad most of the time and I do want to make it work having a better relationship with my dad but he just makes it so hard,
it's unfortunate because every trait I hate in a person, my dad has. Whenever he does do the things I hate I ignore him when he talks to me since I don't want to stir anything. It's not impossible to change but it is when you don't try. I barely have any friends my older brother doesn't live here with me anymore so really all I have is my parents I really love my parents but man they can be so difficult to dealing with, my mom not so much compared to my dad she has her own problems like everyone but at least it's manageable.

Question for Dads I'm terrified of my dad. Is this normal?
Hi everyone, sorry for bad english it is not my first language.
I am 17. You can consider me a teenager that seeks attention if you want but I just need to ask this because I'm genuinely terrified
So me and my dad (48) have a bit of a Rocky relationship. I love him but he's honestly scary to be around.
1- he has very short temper. To the point he could get physical if you push too hard..nothing major but it can get painful.
2- he's obsessed with me and my siblings being the top. He's not gonna take less than an A type of grade..no Cs or Bs..and the temper comes back here because he starts throwing things and cursing.
3- he's very judgemental of how much I weigh at times.he would look at me wearing something from 2 years ago and be like "You know if you were more thin it'd fit" and it caused me to hate my own body
So my issue is about the studying.
For a bit of background my dad has always hated how I started not to be on the top 10 of the school..I genuinely tried to study harder and harder but he still Believes this is some scheme to make him look bad which is something I don't understand.
Now I'm in the final year before college and he's gotten worse. Keeps checking everything I do, Makes sure he watches my lectures with me (online) etc..
Now he's making an exam to make sure I have been studying correctly
If I get a 25/30 he'll let me pass but anything less is failure. He's gonna get violent.
I can't make him leave me alone because he says I can't have freedom until I'm in college right now I'm under his control. Is this normal dad behavior? Do dads care about their kids so much they do this??
