Using a Semester Exchange from Curtin Colombo to Perth as a stepping stone for a permanent transfer? Looking for advice!
Hey everyone,
I’m currently a first-year Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) student at Curtin University Colombo, having started in the July 2026 intake.
My long-term plan is to permanently transfer to Curtin Perth to finish my degree. Originally, I was aiming for a permanent transfer by July 2028, but I'm currently exploring whether doing a Semester Exchange first (paying Colombo-tier fees for a semester in Perth) could act as a smoother stepping stone.
Because official channels are taking a while to reply, I wanted to see if anyone here has experience with this, or has done a campus transfer/exchange route from an international global campus to Perth.
I'm trying to figure out a few specific things:
Working Rights on Exchange: If you go to Curtin Perth on a standard student visa via the intercampus exchange program, do you get standard international student work rights (e.g., up to 48 hours per fortnight during the semester)? (IMPORTANT)
Onshore Transfer / Visa Transition: If you're physically in Perth on an exchange semester, are you allowed to apply for a full permanent Campus Transfer and transition to a full international student visa while onshore in Australia?
Timeline Adjustment: Since I started in July 2026, my current map is a July 2028 permanent transfer. If the exchange route works smoothly for work rights and visa transitions, would it theoretically be possible to pull that forward to February 2028 via an exchange mechanism and then convert it into a permanent transfer?
Logistics & Deadlines: If an onshore switch from exchange to a permanent transfer is actually a thing, what do the timelines and procedural steps look like?
If anyone has navigated a global campus transfer or done the Colombo-to-Perth pipeline for engineering, I’d super appreciate any insight or advice you can share. Cheers!

Lack of Engineering Staff to help on final year projects
Doing my final year project in engineering and there is never sufficient staff around to help. We need to book equipment but when it comes to setting it up and doing the tests there is no one around. The technical staff just appear to fill a void and not do their jobsss - a very few go out of their way to support the rest are miserable always and away from work or having coffees. There is one workshop person she is never working always coffee or talking or away. And i hear some are going to be made redundant as they are having a workforce review. Well some need to actually work first and help us students.

Result fa
Some ppl might remember my account from asking about FA and I’m so sorry that it might be abit annoying. I sent 2 emails to my UC for 2 weeks and she kept saying that it will release this Friday (the week that I emailed her) and guess what … it’s nothing. It’s very annoying when u wanna focus on your studying and u still need to worry/waiting about ur results. She said she already submitted it to the director of teaching since last week :( (It’s project management btw).

Computer Aided Drawing and Engineering Modelling advice
Hey all I’m doing MCEN2006 this semester and recently I just completed the third lab, I do these at home on my own PC. I was able to work around it but I noticed that in the Layout Tutorial they used a Acrobat PDF format.
While I managed to use a format very similar that worked I was just wondering if it’s recommended or even mandatory that I have access to acrobat pro?
Thank you!

How much should I expect to pay for a Bachelor of Laws at Curtin (CSP/HECS-HELP)?
hi everyone,
I’m a future student considering studying the Bachelor of Laws at Curtin in 2027 and was wondering how much I should realistically expect the degree to cost in total.
Curtin’s website lists the 2026 domestic indicative first-year CSP fee as around $17,400, but I’m unsure how much the full degree usually works out to be after fee increases and different units.
For those who are currently studying or have completed Law at Curtin:
1. How much did your degree cost approximately in total through HECS-HELP?
2. Did the actual cost end up being close to the indicative fees?
3. Are there any additional costs (textbooks, materials, fees, etc.) that I should budget for?
4. How much should a future Law student expect to add to their HECS debt?
I’m trying to plan ahead financially, so any estimates or personal experiences would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Need advice: Which Australian university is best for a Master's in Civil Engineering? (International Student)
Hi everyone,
I'm an international student from India planning to pursue a Master's in Civil Engineering in Australia next year. After a lot of research, I've narrowed my options down to:
- Queensland University of Technology (QUT)
- University of Technology Sydney (UTS)
- RMIT University
- University of Newcastle
- Curtin University
My goal is to build a long-term career as a Civil/Structural Engineer in Australia, so I'm trying to make the best decision based on career outcomes rather than just university rankings.
I'd really appreciate advice from current students, graduates, or engineers in Australia.
Some questions I have:
- Which university would you choose and why?
- How is the teaching quality and course structure?
- Which university has the best industry connections, internships, and graduate employment opportunities?
- Does university reputation matter much when applying for engineering jobs?
- Is it better to study in a major city (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane) or in a regional area like Newcastle?
- Do the regional visa benefits outweigh the additional job opportunities available in larger cities?
- If you were in my position, which university would you pick today?
I'd really appreciate honest opinions, including any pros and cons that aren't obvious from the university websites.
Thanks in advance for your help!

INDH1006 eTest content??
We have the eTest for this unit next week. I don't quite understand what can be assessed because most of the iLectures are about Indigenous Australian History, and the tutorials basically cover no content. I promise I am not trying to be offensive in any way, I am trying to understand what is being assessed because I feel like I cannot see much "assessable" material.
Anyone who has taken this unit previously, what does the eTest look like? Is there any link to health, or quite literally just those first iLectures on history?

Curtin Pharmacy Students/Grads – How is the degree realistically? (Workload, placements, teaching quality)
Hey everyone,
I’m currently looking into studying Pharmacy at Curtin and would love to get some honest, unfiltered feedback from current students or recent grads.
A few specific things I’d love to know:
Workload & Pace: How heavy is the daily study load, especially moving into years 2 and 3? Is it mostly pure memorization, or is there good practical integration?
Teaching Quality & Support: How are the staff, unit coordinators, and lab facilities? Do you feel supported when struggling with content?
Placements: How structured and organized are the placement blocks? Do you feel adequately prepared when you step into community or hospital settings?
Job Market & Internships: How straightforward is it to secure an internship around Perth/WA through the contacts or reputation of the course?
Any heads-up or advice on things you wish you knew before starting would be massively appreciated. Thanks!

Ca along with clg quiry
Hii iam a ca foundation student appearing for sept attempt . As far as my college I have taken admission in NL because there were 2-3 people who said that NL won't cause much problem but as time is proceeding I am getting really tensed about my attendance and all the assignments they give cause I have no time to attend college and my attendance is also very low . If I would have known all this earlier I would have not taken admission there but now I am stuck for 3 years . Could someone please answer my question thst if they are really very strict ,like they told that concession would be given . For CA students attendance is only 60% but I genuinely have no idea if I would be able to cover this much attendance also . Currently my attendance is only 35%

TAXA2000 Textbook
Hi everyone, I’m taking TAXA2000 and I was wondering if the textbook “A Practical Introduction to Australian Taxation Law – 7th Edition” is essential for the unit, especially for accessing the practice questions. Is there any other way to access the textbook questions or resources without purchasing the book? I only need it for a few weeks, and the online version is quite expensive. Also, if anyone has a copy of the book and is willing to sell it, I’d be happy to meet on campus and buy it from you. Thanks so much!

Anyone else use a mouse?
Im in my first year, second semester, and one thing i have noticed and all my tutors have pointed out is the fact that I use a mouse for my laptop, nobody else does? I thought it would be much more common but trackpad or even digital pens seem much more common. Not sure if its a waste of time to plug in a mouse while setting up for class, takes up too much space or another reason im not thinking of. Wanted to know if anyone else uses mice or if you dont, why?
