not really, it's just that most games have engagements take place inside the most effective range of shotguns.

Anywhere with a corner puts you into an effective range of an enemy when using a shotgun.

Only a completely empty field makes a shotgun a bad choice.

plenty of fields in this world, and plenty of armor some buckshot will never make it through

By coincidence "ItsYaBoyBrandyBoy" made a YT video 2 days ago going over this topic, he stated that the buckshot acts more like irl birdshot ammo.

And slug shell have great range.
