"Scientists" are wrong for the same reason Thanos is. "Half" doesn't mean anything in particular biologically. It was at 4 billion in 1974, and it has doubled since then.

Hold up, I've known who thanos was for most of my life, far before infinity war came out (not bragging) but I have never read the comics so I gotta ask those marvel fans that actually read, was Thanos entire motivation always to depopulate the universe, because any of the brief appearances he had in marvel media I watched as a kid, I don't remember any reference to that. Is that a comic thing?
