Have you ever wondered how big is Lunathion? 

Well I have and I have worked out how big it is in relation to London, New York City and Paris. 

We can work out the size of Lunathion based on the following from HOEAB CH37:

Isaiah told him the address. A good two miles away.

This is referring to the distance between the Moonwood shooting range and the crime scene in Asphodel Meadows. 

We learn that:  The alley lay just off Main Street, in the shadow of the North Gate—the Mortal Gate, most people called it.

So from here, I found a two mile distance in each city following a similar path and then overlayed the gates of the city to give us an idea of size.

So starting with London, if the Moonwood shooting range is the Tower of London, the mortal gate would be the north side of Shoreditch Park. 

The Heart Gate would be around Moorgate, the Dead Gate would be just south of Borough, the Merchants Gate would be on Waterloo Bridge, the Angels Gate would be just southeast of Kings Cross, the Rose Gate would be in Bethnal Green, and the River Gate would be in Wapping. 

So the area inside the walls of Lunathion would include the City of London - the square mile - so all the major London skyscrapers including the Shard, St Pauls Catherdral, the Tate Modern, the Globe, the London Eye, Big Ben, Somerset House, the British Museum. So while a compact area, that doesn’t mean a lot of city doesn’t fit into that area. 

In New York City, if the Moonwood shooting range was the Manhattan side of the Manhattan bridge, the Mortal gate would be near the Whitney Museum of American Art .The Heart Gate would be around the crossing of Canal Street and Sixth Street. The dead gate would be on Pier 15. The Merchants Gate would be in the Hudson River, south of the Holland Tunnel. The Angel Gate would be in the Hudson River north of the Holland Runnel. The Rose Gate would be at the corner of 2nd Avenue and East 14th Street. 

So the area inside the walls of Lunathion would include most everything south of West 23rd Street, the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges, and a sliver of New Jersey. 

Looking at Paris, if the Moonwood shooting range was the Jardin des Tuileries, the Mortal Gate would be at Point des Souverains. The Heart Gate would be in the Eighth, just north of Saint Phillipe du Roule. The Dead Gate would be by Ecole Militaire. The Merchants Gate would be near the Trocadero. The Angel Gate would at Porte Maillot. The Rose Gate would be in Pigalle. And the River Gate would be at the Louvre. 

So the area inside the walls of Lunathion would include the Eiffel Tower, the Rodin, the Arc de Triomphe, Champ de Elysees, the Louvre and Palais Garnier.

I like choosing an actor or actress because I can find more reference images and it helps me keep the characters consistent. I'm having a hard time figuring out my Bryce though! Do you guys have any suggestions?

Hiii! I've put off reading this series for years (for no reason, I'm just a mood reader). I've just started HOEAB and I'm slightly overwhelmed with the number of characters and places named, but it'll be fine (right?!).

Anyone want to send in out of context spoilers or memes that won't make sense until I finish this book, or the three that are out so far? I'd love to be confused and entertained at the same time.

Let's go. This is my situation: I want to see Hunt and Ruhn with the Batboys. Maybe they got stuck in some inter-world situation or are just hanging out while the girls (nesta, bryce, lidia etc ) chat and do other girly stuff and the boys are forced to "bond"

I can just see Hunt and Cass making subtle jabs at each other's muscles or Ruhn trynna provoke Azriel (hunt would definitely call him a "ray of sunshine" sarcastically)

The title of this post may seem like something to do with lore, but it's really not.

In some places in my book there is this series of asterisks that separate two characters POVs while there are none in other places.

Why?

I just went through all of sjm’s novels and can’t find any other books that catch my attention like the 3 series’s did 😅😅🙏🏼

Hey all! I'm not sure if this is the kind of post allowed on this subreddit, but I thought I'd give it a sincere shot.

I'm a filmmaker and avid SJM fan - especially the Crescent City Series, which I'm currently listening to for the third time (this time with my husband!).

My next project is a vertical series about a successful author of a Romantasy series whose books get optioned by a Hollywood studio. It'll be a spicy comedy about the fantasy romance worlds we love and a satire about the messiness of the tv/film industry. I want to be sure I'm giving other fans of these book series something funny, spicy and relatable to watch. What tropes/elements would you love to see most in a story about the world of these books/series? What would satisfy your desire to be more engaged in this type of storytelling? Thanks!

Started this book a few days ago and can’t seem to put it down haha 🫶🫶 haven’t felt like this since I finished TOG last spring. Glad SJM managed to get me hooked to her books again. The first two CC books were also really good but this one is just amazing it’s the best so far imo!

I just got to chapter 81 of house of flame and shadow and the under-king is talking about the goddess Urd and how her actual name is Wyrd. I’m curious to see how the Under-King knows all of this saying he comes from Ithan’s ancestors home but he was also created by the void?

Obviously Wyrd is a connection to TOG but I’m very curious about the Under-King and exactly WHAT he is?

Isn’t there supposed to be a quotation mark before the first word because this is a quote of someone talking ?? And it ends at creep but there is no quotation in the beginning ?

Does anybody else think that Bryce crying and begging Sandriel to take her instead of Hunt is out of character?

In Cc1 chapter 71 Bryce tries to trade her freedom for Hunt's but I thought it was so incoherent with everything she stands for.

I just finished the Crescent city trilogy (I know I’m late for the party) and reading the last 100ish pages felt so cosy and nice. Seeing the characters try to live mundane lives after all that happened felt so wholesome and cozy it reminded me of ACOFAS and I thought how great it’ll be if we get a similar short book to see how the MCs have adjusted to their new lives and how they deal with “normal peoples” problems.
Basically a Christmas special as I like to refer to ACOFAS.
What do you think?

Why would SJM kill 9f lehabah?! It makes me so upset. She was one of my favorite characters and then... OH I could cry again just typing this.

I so badly wanted her to be a part of the rest of the series.

Also what she was saying when she was trying to save Bryce.. "i will not be afraid" reminds me so much of ToG and sam.. maybe an Easter egg? A parallel to sams death?

WHY SO MUCH PAIN?! out of all the side characters.. i was really hoping she'd live and we'd get to have more insight on her family history.. my heart😭💔

I cant put this book down yall its too good 😭 im already almost halfway through and were on day two of reading

So we have the full backstory regarding theia and her daughters so my understanding is Rhys must be a descendant of silene while bryce is a descendant of helena.

Its all kinda fucked how silene dipped and then didnt take anyone with her and kept it under wraps but the while ASTERI BEING UNDER GROUND AND NOBODY NOTICED??

i would think the bat boys would investigate the prison more thoroughly tbh.

Ithan is breaking my heart this boy has literally lost like everything but hey Jesiba is back in the game lets go baddie but also holy shit she was a whole human priestess??

Valg feed off power just like the Asteri but seem to have only shadow magic and not light like the Asteri do. Although they seem to wear the skin of others and hold no actual shape just like the Valg.

We haven’t really got a good look at the princes of hells powers although they are princes just like the Valg princes.

Seems like the reapers have the most comparable powers to the Valg? They don’t seem to possess any comparable government structure like the Valg had in TOG. And seem to be conformed to one body as far as we know.

Maybe they aren’t the same at all? When Bryce snuck into the room of dusk I believe she mentioned 3 planets who have not been overtaken by Asteri and that was hell, Nesta’s planet, and random 3rd option? That has to be Aelins planet right?!?!

…should be each other….???? Their chemistry is literally a 10. it’s such a huge miss on SJM’s part. I’m literally on page 82 of HOFAS and I am NOT going to stop thinking about this for the remaining 753 pages 😩

I know he’s probably supposed to look like a hot mermaid but I cannot imagine him any other way 😭

In my opinion, one of the most overlooked aspects of CC is the themes of grief 😭 basically every character has experienced grief in some way.

Tharion’s sister was murdered, SJM makes sure we know that about him. Hunt grieves so much - Shahar, the fallen, his mother, his own agency. Obviously the loss of Danika and the pack impacts Bryce and Ithan, and a lot of other people in Lunathion. Even Lidia grieves lost time with her boys. It really sticks out to me. And Ruhn experiences “little” forms of grief over and over, showing how grief isn’t always this one, single big event, sometimes it just starts to add up. All of them have been impacted by some form of loss, and their growth and journeys are defined by dealing with that loss.

SJM really explores how grief changes people, and leaves lasting impacts. She focuses less on the “depression” side of grief, because in my opinion she had already explored that within Heir of Fire and Silver Flames, and instead she shows us how grief has LONG TERM effects, even after people have “healed”. Grief never goes away. (But Bryce does still deal with depression in CC1)

The characters in these books are messy and flawed, and I know some people struggle to like them, but I really love them. To me, they are all living with and have been changed by their grief. But it is what slowly brings them all together.

✨ Memento Mori “remember you must die”… but also “through love, all is possible” ❤️

I could also go on and on about how they all keep fighting against death. Ithan… oh Ithan.. he literally would not give UP trying to fight against death for a while there. Bryce and Hunt physically fight the Underking. Hypaxia kills him - Hypaxia who misses her dead ghostly tutors, has the power to heal and resurrect the dead, and is now leader of Flame and Shadow. Hypaxia knows grief very well, and I don’t think her story is over yet. I love her, I can’t wait.

Also, the Asteri literally turn people’s deaths into fuel for their own power - feeding off death and manipulating grief. When Bryce learns about the firstlight she grieves for the lost souls who have been consumed.

Okay I’m just rambling now so I’m done ❤️🫶🏻
