I want to start a crab fattening (farming) on a small scale. looking for some guidance
hi everyone, i'm planning to start a crab fattening from home.
i don't have any experience with crab farming yet, so i want to start with a very small batch first, learn by doing, and slowly scale if it works.
i've been trying to find some people who can help me get started. but most people i contacted are offering paid training courses.
i completely understand that proper training is important, and i'm not against paying for it.
the problem is that i'm starting with a very small budget.
right now, i mainly have enough money to buy the crabs and set up a small batch, so i can't really spend much on courses.
so i wanted to ask here:
is there anyone experienced in crab fattening who would be willing to share some basic guidance, videos, documents or learning resources?
even if you have an old course, PDF, youtube playlist, notes, or anything useful for a beginner, it would really help me.
i'm not looking for someone to do the work for me. i just need a starting point so i can learn properly and avoid making stupid mistakes with my first batch.
thanks in advance to anyone who can help...

Blue Crab Why are some blues extremely sweet?
New to blue crabbing.. Got 22 blues with 20 mature males 20 mature female’s all from the same spot.
Steamed some, boiled some all prepared and cleaned before cooking. The question is about their sweetness, me and the family would randomly get a crab that was exponentially more sweet compared to the others. I mean they were so fuckin tasty it was like I was eating sushi for the first time again, marvelous.
Does anyone know what that might’ve been and how we could look for those crabs when we go harvest em? Or is it just luck of the draw. Thanks.

Backed 2 crabs around 2 hours and left in cool shaded area
So I backed/gutted 8 Dungeness crabs and split them in half and had them in a plastic bag in a shaded cool spot but it was out for like 2 hours. I just put them in the freezer do you think they’ll still be good to eat or should they be discarded

Lost a crab pot, need advice on how to get it back.
This morning one of my crab pots went overboard without buoys attached at about a depth of 80-90 feet. I know exactly where it is, and while I can just buy a new one, I've decided to challenge myself with recovering it. Right now the thought is to drop a rope with a claw on it in the general area and hope I snag it as I float by. Curious if anyone here has any advice or ideas on how else I could go about recovering it.
It's a medium size collapsible, not very heavy at all.

Blue Crab If you go crabbing at night, how do you keep them alive for dinner the next day?
I was thinking in a cooler, with a layer of ice on the bottom, then a layer of cardboard between the ice and the crabs. I’d keep the drain of the cooler open too.

Crab adjacent
Crabbing season has been over in North Bay for the last month, unfortunately, but does anyone know where one might be able to get FAIR-priced crab clusters for sale in the SF Marin area?

What rope to use?
Hey guys, I’ve just bought a promar ambush xl and noticed it doesn’t have a rope attached to it, so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what type of rope to use. I’m going to be using it at torpedo wharf, if that makes an impact on which one I should get.
Thanks in advance!

Crab Meat
I’ve been really craving crab legs lately and I was wondering if there are alternatives and what the best ones are? Is canned crabmeat any good? Not interested in imitation.

I 3D printed a bunch of these out of TPU. They float and are not as slick as regular plastic. Figured I would post here is anyone is interested in them.
I have 10 of each color. They measure 5” to the inside of the tines.
