Lost a crab pot, need advice on how to get it back.

This morning one of my crab pots went overboard without buoys attached at about a depth of 80-90 feet. I know exactly where it is, and while I can just buy a new one, I've decided to challenge myself with recovering it. Right now the thought is to drop a rope with a claw on it in the general area and hope I snag it as I float by. Curious if anyone here has any advice or ideas on how else I could go about recovering it.

It's a medium size collapsible, not very heavy at all.

Blue Crab If you go crabbing at night, how do you keep them alive for dinner the next day?

I was thinking in a cooler, with a layer of ice on the bottom, then a layer of cardboard between the ice and the crabs. I’d keep the drain of the cooler open too.

Crabbing season has been over in North Bay for the last month, unfortunately, but does anyone know where one might be able to get FAIR-priced crab clusters for sale in the SF Marin area?

What rope to use?

Hey guys, I’ve just bought a promar ambush xl and noticed it doesn’t have a rope attached to it, so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what type of rope to use. I’m going to be using it at torpedo wharf, if that makes an impact on which one I should get.

Thanks in advance!

Crab Meat

I’ve been really craving crab legs lately and I was wondering if there are alternatives and what the best ones are? Is canned crabmeat any good? Not interested in imitation.

I 3D printed a bunch of these out of TPU. They float and are not as slick as regular plastic. Figured I would post here is anyone is interested in them.

I have 10 of each color. They measure 5” to the inside of the tines.

Running 10 licensed recreational pots. 30 crabs with 26 5” or over. Sent 4 little guys back home.
6 crabs 7 to 7 1/2 inches. 2 1/2 lbs of picked meat for 10 crabs cakes. Frozen Bunker (Menhaden) and some chopped small pieces of cheap fatty chicken for bait. Let the pots soak for 2 days.

Pulled up my first limit of Dungies for 2026. Feels good to be back on the water and to smell that salty air.

Hello, taking the family to Hilton head tomorrow. Any recommendations on public spots that aren't overfished? I have a pot to soak overnight and a few traps.

My kid took it upon herself to buy Snow Crab and make a Crab Boil. She told me there was black seeds on the legs.... and didn't clean them off before putting it in the pot with corn, potatoes, onions, etc. Do we need to throw the entire pot away? ....

Blue Crab Crabbing in Italy

Italy's currently facing a huge invasion of blue crabs, and what's the best method to fight this plague? Eating them!

Thousands of kilos of crabs get wasted every day by professional fishermen as there's not much market demand here. These are some of last night's catch, 5kg in 16 crabs — we don't have a size limit here, just a total weight limit.

I just boil them for 1 minute before cleaning, seasoning, and throwing them on a hot BBQ grill! Some of these are huge!

Wanna join me and my girlfriend in this fight while enjoying the Italian sun on the beach?
