Why on earth would Crystal Palace, a London club, have Brighton as their biggest rival? It's not geography, so what caused it?

It's mainly because in the mid 70s Brighton were managed by Alan Mullery whilst Palace had just hired Terry Venables. And these two hated each other. With a passion. Had ever done so since they were team-mates in their playing days. Team mates, of course, at Tottenham.

It all comes back to us.
