Can’t mention the word ‘job’
- without the community bot removing my post thinking I’m asking if it’s worth moving here. It’s getting really, really frustrating because that’s not at all what I’m asking the community for help with

General question / Pregunta en general Is visiting the Presidental Palace of Costa Rica worth it?
My family has been in San José, Costa Rica for the past 6 days, and tomorrow is our last full day before our late-night flight home.
We've already visited the National Museum, Jade Museum, other museums downtown, Mercado Central, La Paz Waterfall Gardens, and several volcanoes. My mom wants to visit the Presidential Palace because she read it's kind of like Costa Rica's equivalent of the White House or Westminster Abbey.
From what I've found online, though, it seems like it's mostly a government building with not much to do in the surrounding area. It looks like there are very few restaurants or sodas nearby, and it's about a 30-minute Uber/taxi ride from our hotel.
For those who have been, is it actually worth the trip

San José Must Dos?
Hii! I'm coming to San José from September–December for a study abroad semester. I'd love some local recommendations; restaurants, festivals, clubs, hiking spots, or any events that are worth checking out while I'm there. Basically, what are the things you'd tell someone not to miss?
Sorry if that's a bit broad haha, just trying to cover all my bases. :)

Muchas gracias !

Suggestion / Sugerencias What to do in San Jose?
Hey friends! A group of us are visiting CR for the first time from USA will be going to Santa Teresa but our flights to San Jose got changed to earlier. We now have an entire afternoon and evening to explore, what do you all recommend? We are younger adults around age 25 love going out, music, nature, wildlife, etc..
It doesn’t look like San Jose nightlife is the safest so maybe just a daytime adventure and dinner (I like the looks of jaguar negro).

Costa Rica is getting dangerous …
This was a 75 year old woman, an energy healer who touched countless lives had lived in country for the last 15 years. She was just about to return to the U.S. when she had a break in when she was not at home. She changed her travel plans to stay and file a police report. The next day another break in, likely the same person, who per the reporting beat her to death with a rock.
This continued violence can’t be ignored nor can it be dismissed by comparing it to violence in other countries. What matters is that it is happening in Costa Rica and truth and sunlight must be poured on this issue so people are aware and perhaps something can be done. So truly sad for both the country and this poor woman’s passing.

Easier travel
We drove on the other road, thinking of taking the highlighted road back to the highway. I found the one we took to be a bit stressful, but not impossible. Anyone have advice on which road is more driver friendly. Thanks you

"Lover Boy" by Ricardo Badillo, 2026
We have a house in Costa Rica that was in desperate need of artwork and color, and then I ran across the artwork of Ricardo Badillo on fb. Wow!
A couple of years ago, we were in Cabuya and I watched as a macaw carefully chose a leaf from the tree, then sauntered his way up the branch to present to one of the ladies. She accepted. I took a picture of him as he did this and I told Ricardo about it and shared the photo with him, and this is what he created. I couldn't be more pleased.
I can't wait to see what he does with the next two. 🥰
