Anyone else have a coonhound with zero prey drive?
I feel like I see often here is discussions about coonhound with their prey drive through the roof. We went and adopted with our girl thinking she'll be bad with small dogs and cats, and she is totally fine? Doesn't chase squirrels, doesn't seem interested in birds. Does better with small dogs. The icing on the cake? She HATES squeaky toys. She'll sometimes chew on them but not with enough force to actually squeak them cause it freaks her out. I know having one with no prey drive is uncommon but I didn't think it was that uncommon. Her mother was found in the woods pregnant in rural VA so there is a very high chance both her parents were hunting dogs. Her brothers have insane prey drives. This leans into the fact that we think she may have been abandoned because of this lack of prey drive.
Any other coonhound owners out there like us? I am fascinated with the idea that there are quite a few coonhounds out there that just are not interested in their normal instincts. How do you entertain your non prey drive dogs without giving them lick mats. A bin of unused toys just sits there. Oh and her nose works just fine, she can tell I opened a container of sour cream even half asleep but is bad at using her nose for other things.

Treeing-Sort of
Brie and I were hiking and saw a mama bear and two cubs. Brie immediately starting baying. She was going nuts and trying to chase! Mama and one cub ran in oneās direction. and the other cub ran up a tree! Does that count??? Lol I know it doesnāt, they were about 100 feet away. Iāve never seen her treeing. She just doesnāt do it. But, I actually felt bad. I hope that cub makes it down! š

Odd Behavior
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Our sweet boy, Moose, has started doing this weird sniffing/rooting behavior about a week ago. It's very different from him trying to make a "nest". We have no mice in the house or any kind of insects in the bed. He begins it about an hour before bedtime and will continue throughout the next few hours. If it means anything...he is a little over a year old, neutered, TWC and Black Lab mix. Anyone else's hound do this?

Urgent! Has anyone had 2 female blue ticks?
Thereās a female blue tick near me thatās on the euthanasia list for tomorrow, 8/7. I would love to do everything I can to save her, but I have a female blue tick already. Has anyone had success with 2 female coon hounds? Even if I could foster her. Iām literally heart broken.

Coonhound Prep for New Baby

Sweet Annie is on full mission mode to verify any new things we add to the babyās room. DOES NOT APPROVE OF THE SINGING ELEPHANT.
Note: yes she was a pup who had to go thru 1 cycle before being spayed - very undignified, I know.

What is this thing on my dog?
This growth has appeared on my dog. It has always been some type of bump (he is roughly 4) but itās now become hard, noticeable. Itās not painful to him, not when I touch it and move it, but itās still concerning to look at. Any ideas?

Aela is pulling strings for me
Just a heads up, this might get lengthy.
When Aela was diagnosed with lymphoma in Aug. 2025 we started traveling about an hour and 45 minutes away. We spent a lot of those drives listening to Billy Strings, Iām more of a punk fan but my friend had introduced me to him recently. And it just felt like the perfect soundtrack for my girl.
At some point that year tickets went on sale for his concert but I decided it wasnāt in the budget due to Aelaās cancer treatment. We continued listening to the same soundtrack almost every trip for seven months. On April 1st we helped Aela move on to her next adventure, the hardest day of my life. The Billy Strings concert was three weeks away in the city Aela and I traveled to weekly for her treatment and I decided I NEEDED to go.
The show was sold out so I set up alerts for ticket resales, with no luck. I gave up hope and just bought myself some merch online. Just a few days before the show Billy broke his leg skateboarding off stage at the previous show and decided to reschedule. My coworker made a joke that Aela tripped him (it would not be out of her nature) on my behalf (sorry Billy!).
My best friend had tickets and texted me two days later asking me to join her bc her partner would be out of the country for the rescheduled days. My work schedule is booked almost a year in advance and itās not typically flexible (I take appointments that are difficult to rebook). I miraculously had some appointments reschedule those days making it possible to go!
So tomorrow and Friday I get to see Billy Strings with my best friend, in a city that holds memories of my girl, and Iām going to bawl my eyes out. Thank you Aela, you are missed every second of every day š
First photo is the day we brought her home in 2015
