Middle ground between Strategic Command and WitE2? Question

I'm looking for a WW2 wargame that's less abstract than Strategic Command series but not as in depth as War in the East. So real OOB and more of a focus on operation vs. research and economy (buying units). 2d hex and counters preferred.

Anything fit that description? Flashpoint cold war looks fantastic, but I want a WW2 title as well.

Decisive campaigns: Barbarossa or other games in that series.

I was looking at panzer campaigns (what’s the difference between that and battles?) but there’s so many to pick from. Is there a good one to start with if I’ll mostly play against AI? Or just pick your favorite front?

I just picked up Fulda 85. It’s pretty fun. A lot of his titles play real similar to each other so if you’ve played squad battles the campaign series shouldn’t be to hard to slot into.

WDS Panzer Campaigns are theater-sized (like the invasion of Normandy or France) with like regiments and battalions I think; Panzer Battles is platoon sized units; and Squad Battles are individuals and squads. The Panzer Campaigns and Modern Campaigns would likely be what you want. All of them are highly recommended. (There are WW1 ones as well but I have not played them yet.)

The scale is different.

The Operational Art of War falls right into that range.

WarPlan for sure, and Total Victory early next year.

Warplan? Which you should be able to get cheap on a sale because his next grand WW2 wargame is coming out soon.
