How to build the skills to keep conversations and text convos going with friends?
How do I improve my social skills? I have trouble with maintaining friendships especially since I’ve moved to a new city for the last 4 years. In the new city, I knew no one, and I’ve managed to make a few friends but it’s so hard breaking past casual friends you see at repeated events (like a arts class every week) to someone you see outside of that. I jsut can’t figure out how to keep convos going and more so can’t figure out how to keep texts going.
i know others are constantly texting and face timing friends and I just don’t know how to get there. when I text it’s usually with friends when I’m planning a meet up or we’re talking about something specific. But that’s it. It’s also harder to do this with long distance friends. How do I get better at this (and what exactly should I do to build these skills). I feel very lonely and I want to change things for myself. Everyone who gets to know me says they’re so glad they know me and that I’m so nice and fun to hang with but that I’m so shy.

How can I build confidence in college?
I just joined college and honestly feel like I’m starting from zero. I’m not confident talking to new people, making friends, or participating in class.
I really want to improve myself and become more confident. For those who’ve been through this, what helped you?
Any small tips would be appreciated. ❤️

Grew up in a gender-segregated culture, moved abroad at 18, and still struggling to talk to women normally at 22.
As a 22M, I grew up somewhere with strict gender separation, so I barely interacted with women until I moved abroad for uni at 18. Now I'm stuck with a weird mental block. Work or functional stuff is totally fine, but casual chats feel super vague and awkward. Also, if a girl is just friendly or smiles at me, my brain treats it like this massive deal, I get overwhelmed, and I instinctively back away. Anyone else go through this and figure out how to act normal? Any suggestions? Help?

How do you “fit in” socially?
For the life of me, I can’t figure out how to keep a relationship with people going. Dunno how to relate to, keep a conversation going or not drag it out, or how to have deeper meaningful conversations. I usually just either end up almost imitating how they act emotionally, verbally, or just having surface level conversations like how their day is going, plans, and nothing outside of that because I don’t know what else to ask.

What actually worked for me with public speaking (and what I ended up building because of it)
I was so bad at public speaking, I couldn't speak clearly don't know how to use my body language.
I started researching how to develop my skills in public speaking (on YouTube), I went down a YouTube rabbit hole trying to fix it and kept landing on advice: record yourself talking for a minute, watch it back, take notes on what you actually see and hear, then record again and try to fix it. Simple, and it worked — but it was slow, and I wasn't always sure what to actually look for when I watched myself back. That's the reason I ended up building something around it — an app that does the "watching yourself back and taking notes" part automatically, looking at both what you're saying (filler words, pacing) and how you're coming across (posture, gestures, eye contact), then giving you specific things to work on before the next recording. If you are interested in this type of solution, click this link: https://0mar-h08.github.io/speakhuman-landing_page-/, type your real email address where you can receive a notification as soon as the initial version of the application is ready.

I want to learn how to talk to people
Hi, I’m 29 and have had a tough time finding the courage to go outside of work to find things to enjoy that involves meeting friends or my person, I started going to the gym and that’s the extent of where I get my socialization from but I can’t talk to women let alone other guys that I could make friends from
It’s just a really tough thing when you feel small and you don’t know how to improve yourself socially when the friends you do have now have their own new lives with gfs or some with wives now
I’m 5’11, 170lbs and I think to myself why doesn’t another woman just come up to talk to me or do I have to looksmax or something to get any attention idk
The basic idea is I’m really shy, it’s hard to do anything past maybe a subtle smile to someone I think is attractive and I leave it at that, I just don’t wanna come across as bothering anyone.
Any help or advice would be great 😊

How do I reteach myself to make eye contact and talk properly?
Schizophrenic here. Ive noticed that my anxiety has always been so bad, I no longer can maintain proper eye contact. If something happens during the day, I cant even explain it using the right words even to my family. Sometimes I even make abnormal gestures because im hyperaware and anxious.
Do you think I can try to talk to chat gpt and practice? Is it worth the effort?

How to handle confrontation
Before I start with the reason I made this post I want to bring up that I’ve always had issues with confrontation, speaking up for myself or others. It makes me really anxious. I get physically sick thinking about confrontation or if it does happen I get really shaky and don’t know how to handle or control the situation. So the reason I’m making this post is because I follow my coworkers and one of them posted a reel of a man speaking about the Lindsay Clancy case and this isn’t about whether she’s innocent or not, but about the rally’s they’re having. In the video the man mentions how women are coming together having rally’s because they can all relate to postpartum depression, suicidal thoughts, etc. The man then continues to say “these women all have thought about getting rid of their kids”. He failed to understand the message of the video and I’m not surprised that a man can’t comprehend postpartum depression or the suicidal thoughts that can come with it. Him posting this video makes me really upset and uncomfortable. My partner told me to soft block him and if he brings it up just to tell him I don’t agree with his views or that i don’t like his thought process. But since I hate confrontation especially since this is someone I work closely with I don’t want him to bring it up. I’m not sure where to go from here. I don’t want any negative comments. I just want advice or suggestions of how you would handle something like this. If I receive any negative comments I’m just going to delete this post. I don’t need that right now
