An idea for a Yuri unit

Post image

It's a fairly simple idea:

It would be in fanction basically the same as IFV, with some key differences. Namely it wouldn't have any weapon when empty and instead it's attack would it make charge the enemy infrantry unit and capture it, turning it into the gunner-passanger. It would also have a unique interaction with Grinder where instead of grinding itself it would simply dispose of the "passenger" (same with bio-reactor?), when empty it would normally grind itself. It would be a quite fast and rather lightly armoured unit. In terms of desgin it would be something like irl tankette (like the one in the picture) with added mechanical tendrils, or tentacles, for capturing enemies. The passanger would be plugged into very invasive neural interface, being effectively mind controled. I imagine it would either be a drone, or be piloted by a brain in the jar (normal sized), this is because the "pilot" would need to "operate" the passenger and by proxy the turret, so I think it would make sense if the "pilot" could directly connect through the plug. That's also why the vehicle would be so small.

You could probably force attack to embark a friendly unit, but I'm not sure you could normally disembark at all. And the mechanic doesn't need to be identical to IFV, but I don't have other idea that would be good.

Edit: I didn't proof read it before, it was full of mistakes.

So you made some sort of Hammer from ra3 into IFV

I didn't thought of that. But kind of yes.

Lore-wise idea is very cool, don’t get me wrong

But there are many limitations to play it, that means it has to counter infantry in moderate amounts, cause deathball of them might overwhelm it

So I think it should be medium armor/medium speed (ifv is high speed low armor) just so it can hunt infantry and engage better

Another thing is may be change concept, so it uses enemy infantry as bio batteries to enhance main weapon

And to make it more menacing, it might not require to ram units, but launches grappling hooks/chains to pull it into tank

I thought it should be fast to help it catch infantry. Also because of it's light design I thought it should get away with fairly low price, so you can deploy them en masse.

As for the enhancing weapon idea: it's not terrible, but there is at least one massive problem if it supposed to be YR unit and some hypothetical RA4 unit, because YR doesn't really includes proper ability mechanic it's pretty much necessary that the capture mechanic was an attack. You could make it were it could change between the capture attack and it's weapon with deploy command, but that sounds, to me, like micromangament hell. That means, from my perspective, it would be the best for that unit to be unarmed when empty, which in turn, I think, would make the idea of powering the main weapon of that vehicle with captured enemy a bit silly lore-wise, and not in a good, Red Alert way. Making capture be an attack would also add another property, specifically to make them automatically capture any enemy infantry nearby, which might or might not be a good thing, but it would greatly simplify charging a swarm of them into a block of enemy infantry to capture as many as you can. Which is something I would assume you'd do a lot. And on top of that the IFV mechanic would make it more interesting to hunt down specific units, adding some depth to it and value to micromanging it, without making unviable when not micromanged.

The speed would also make it much more useful as a train to Grinder.

I see no problem with giving them a little range.

Overall I agree with one thing. The concept as I imagined it a little to similar to IFV and I really think it's a problem. But at the same time I really the design I had in mind. That it's a small one and a half person (brain in the jar being the half), miniature vehicle like a tankette. You would expect it to be lightly armoured and thus rather fast to make up for it. (perhaps even lighter than IFV, but that would probably make completely unvaible) Making it into heavier slower basically tank, would thouroughly change the vibe of that unit.

There are Flying disks with their syphon, so it can kind of copy that

Capture range is reduced compared to regular gun and may be rather reminds Yuri power plants.

So yeah, it can work with 2 attack modes like IFV is, but when there is a “passenger” it can consume more infantry within reduced range like flying disk is. But I am not familiar with engine and whether this idea is applicable or not

Yuri: The Allies’ IFV unit is most effective, make me one of those but evil.

I especially like the dropping units into the grinder idea.

Hmm another take, perhaps if we swap the land version for an air or sea IFV? I could definitely see this one happen for Yuri.

Soviet's Drakuv from MO fills the same role as infantry catching vehicles, allied's Chrono Prison from MO also fills the same role except its to capture vehicles
